There are so many people here maybe a chat room or two would, I don't know, make the site more interesting then it is. Don't get me wrong I like to post when I can (and i think I've only posted once or twice but no time no posting) but it's so much easier to insult someone instantly other than two weeks later :smirk:

We had a chatroom here once, but I believe it wasn't able to be properly moderated and controlled. Hmm, I'm sure James will be able to field this in much greater detail.

And that little comment about insulting someone right away is a good reason why message boards are better than chat rooms. ;)

James and co. will never create a general chat room. THere's already AIM otakuboard chat rooms around.

And Merlin Matrix, I was one of the ops there. Well sub-ops. Since ops made me op when another op left. I would allow a person flame another person 3xs. Then at the 4th time, I kick them off with a 24 hour ban. Plus flame you in the "reason why you got banned" slot :).[/FONT][/SIZE][/COLOR]

Anyway. Like they said. There will never be a chatroom again. All though it would be like the coolest thing it wont happen. Sorry dude.

If you'd like to see what happens in chat rooms and an example of what happens in these just go to [url]www.teenflirt.com[/url]. Not a very good site. People can get away with using inapropriate words and can even use racist terms. I think alot of chat rooms are like this and its really hard to find ops who can take the pressure and not let people get away with stuff.

I don't remember a guy named "Box Hoy" in the chat room.

The chat room was fun though. Every night, I see a game bot online and people spamming the commands to the game bot like,

Dumbass: /8ball Will kittana ever date me?
Game bot: No, you will marry a drunk homosexual redneck.

Along with the first post itself, I think these are good examples of why we shouldn't have a chat room associated with any of the sites again. :rolleyes:

Although the concept of a chat room is good, I gather that the main problem lies in maintaining the quality environment we strive for on the forums--just as Warlock pointed out. A real-time chat would be nearly impossible to manage efficiently at all times.

If you're looking for inebriated silliness, it's just as easy to create the aforementioned AIM chats. At least that route allows you to participate with a select group of friends you're familiar with. Which, of course, yields a more enjoyable atmosphere.

My general point is this: Why waste massive effort providing something that will surely conflict with the standards of the site when there are other mediums out there that can suit the desired purpose more effectively?

I'm sorry if I sounded overly negative about it Merlin Matrix, but you didn't exactly present this idea in an endearing way. I realize you were probably joking, but the reality of your comment really exemplified the problem of providing a chat service--and you offered no support for your suggestion to convince any reasonable person that it could improve the community. A bunch of random nonsense with no value to it won't exactly make the site more interesting...

Again, I hope I don't discourage you by coming off too strongly. As a senior member here, I like to see suggestions from members. So, yeah, those are my own opinions regarding the matter.

Yeah, same here. Really, as I said, I hope I didn't come off the wrong way. I wasn't trying to scold you or anything. Your proposal is cool. I just didn't want to make it seem like I, personally, was just saying "WTF" and disagreeing with it for no good reason. I think the main problem in relation to the idea itself, is that the joke is pretty close to the reality of the nature of chats.
