Dagger
I wasn't sure what forum this thread belonged in... so your input would be greatly appreciated. ^_^;; Anyway, I don't own much manga, but there are still a couple of series that I'd love to see as anime. Princess Ai: I've only read a brief excerpt of this title (volume 1 streets in early July). However, Tokyopop has been marketing it very heavily. With a storyline by Courtney Love--yes, that Courtney Love--and character designs by the creator of Paradise Kiss, Princess Ai has stylish shoujo-gothic artwork and a fascinating premise. Now, the main reason I'm mentioning the manga is that one of Tokyopop's TV ads, which recently started running on Adult Swim, consists of several brief animated segments featuring Princess Ai's male and female leads. While there is no Princess Ai OVA or TV show (at least not to my knowledge), the commercial looked and sounded so fantastic that I desperately wished the anime existed. Legal Drug: In my opinion, Legal Drug is one of CLAMP's finest works. It has the entrancing, almost eerie atmosphere found in manga like Tokyo Babylon and Xxxholic. The drawing is also top-notch. Since Xxxholic and Tsubasa Resevoir Chronicle--I refuse to monkey around with those titles' silly "official" capitalization--are set to become a movie and a series (respectively) in 2005, I have high hopes for Legal Drug. Presumably its shounen-ai content would end up being somewhat toned down for television, but I think I can live with that. ^_~ ~Dagger~
otakulab
QUOTE: Since Xxxholic and Tsubasa Resevoir Chronicle--I refuse to monkey around with those titles' silly "official" capitalization--are set to become a movie and a series (respectively) in 2005, I have high hopes for Legal Drug. damn i wish it wasn?t so early and I knew how to properly translate that setance, but Im pretty sure that you?re not to favorable on those titles. I thought it was pretty cool to have to diff titles telling the story from two diff perspectives. I read holic first then trc and really enjoyed reading them. don?t know if you have read them or not, but I think it has a good story premise and that characters are well thought out and drawn, (I even like how they work in other names and characters of old clamp titles). Worth a read. ANYWHO. back to the question posed by the thread... which titles would make a good series. Lets see. Id like to see anime that actually follows along with the original manga, but again I digress. OK. First is Battle Vixens. Don?t know why I like this title so much, I surprise myself every time I find myself like a girlie title. The main character Hakufu is hot and kicks major ***. The books (so far two volumes) have non-stop action and the perverted humor that I like as well. Hakufu is sent away by her mother (who also kicks some boot-ay) to go to school to train to fight better and smarter. Earrings that the students wear tell others of their rank and strength. Second would be Baby Birth. This whole series is only two volumes, but a very good series indeed. Good vs. Evil. Ancient Seals being broken and demons flooding the earth. Takuya Hijou (the male lead), finds Hizuru Oborozuki (the female lead) and tries to talk her into helping him save the world as they know it. As Hizuru fails to step into action quickly, people she knows and loves are used as pawns, and sometimes killed. Very awesome series. Third title is Kagerou-Nostalgia. I must admit, the most pressing reason I want this one as an anime is that its SO DAMN CONFUSING at times. There are so many characters to keep track of that it gets a bit overwhelming at first, but you get so engrossed in the story that you forget about it. The setting is medieval Japan and the lands have been plagued by conflict (shocker huh?.. ). The fighters of the great wars have been resurrected into new bodies aiding them to seek revenge upon their killers. The characters (though many) are thought out well and each given their own personality.
Okita
Dagger IX1: can you provide a little info on Princess Ai? basic story and such. I've never seen the series but you've got me intrgued, and I'm a sucker for gothic setting work... Legend of Basara Firstly it is ALREADY animated, or at least the first 5 volume, i want it to CONINTUE because there wasn't an ending and it's driving me crazy.... Zomebie Powder This is rather sad, beacuse I not only want it to be animated but also for the manga to continue pass it's VERY short 5 volume finale, the series is very similiar to 'Trigun' and has the 'western' feel of thing, the main character even act very similiar to Vash, the show has some very nice villains too, I'd relly like to seen some of the fight scene animated! Anne Freak I don't know why, but the prospect of seeing psycho teens killer without moral seems so cool, this is one series that seriously disturbed me, especially it's main character, I mean how many series make their main character an outright villain? I really wish someone would pick this series up. Vulgar Ghost Daydream Another extremely weird and disturbing series, (the main character is a necromancer/s&m queen for crying out loud!) at first it seems like a slightly twisted version of the "detective; who done it" theme, with a lot more sex, drug and violence *cough* but as story and plot progress, you'll find out that this series packs punches that can knock you for a spin, some unique plot device and some very refreshing character (hoo boy are the resfreshing) Ludwig Kakumei My final venture into weirdness, if you thought the last two were strange wait till you hear this one, essential it is an EXTREMELY loose adaptation of classic fairy tale such as Snow White and Sleeping beauty, with the "prince" of each story being replace by the main character: a effeminate narcissist prince who is a tad bit pyschotic and enjoy killing off the 'damsel in distress'. Story are very twisted; from the incestuous evil seductruss called 'Blanche' alla Snow White, to Red Riding Hood, the axe murderer (don't ask just read and find out... ;) )

Overall, they're certainly a huge step up from stuff like Chobits and Angelic Layer. Battle Vixens actually has been made into an anime. It's called Ikkitousen, and should be coming out in North America pretty soon. ^_^
Dagger IX1: can you provide a little info on Princess Ai? basic story and such. When Princess Ai makes a hasty escape from her war-torn land, she finds herself in modern-day Tokyo. Confused and in shock, Ai wanders the streets in this strange new land to unravel the secrets that could tear her and her kingdom apart." The manga was serialized in Japan's Wings magazine. KarmaOfChaos
I don't know if Paradise Kiss has yet been turned into an anime, but I definitely think it would be worth it, if they could find some really spectacular animators to work on the outfits. The manga is complete eye candy, and the anime could take that even farther. The plot is substantial enough to make 26 episodes out of it, if the writers added some of their own flair. Also, Kill Me Kiss Me and Boys Over Flowers would be interesting in anime form. Especially Kill Me Kiss Me, if done with a FLCL state of mind, would make for some crazy good humour. Nice thread, Dag. ^-^ -Karma
Guest milesmori
I would love to see more GTO put into anime. They just stopped it when it got good... Monkey_Orange
There are actually 3 Manga titles that I am currently reading and would like to see as Anime. They are the following: [Descriptions are quoted from ANN & Tokyopop--I'm too lazy to summarize right now ^^;]. Hana-Kimi -- I think this would make for a great Shoujo comedy series *^^* Mizuki Ashiya, a Japanese American, just transferred to a boarding school in Japan for one reason: To see her idol, Izumi Sano, jump in the high jump. There?s just a couple problems. 1) It?s an all boy?s school, 2) she?s pretending to be a boy, and 3) several people know her secret. Hot Gimmick -- This would make for another great romantic comedy. Hatsumi is just a regular girl, living in your regular company apartment complex, with your regular neighbors, but when her sister asks her to go buy a pregnancy test, everything gets out of hand. Afraid for her family?s reputation, Hatsumi gets black mailed into becoming the neighborhood bully?s slave. Then Hatsumi?s childhood crush moves back into the neighborhood, and it seems that all the guys in the neighborhood are out to get with her. It?s neighbors in love, and it?s scandalous. Demon Diary -- THIS as Anime would be wonderful *^^* Raenef is the black sheep of the demon court, with minimal knowledge of magic and courtly etiquette. In order to help him claim his birthright as a demon lord, the demon masters send him the wise and noble teacher Eclipse to be his tutor. As Raenef and Eclipse begin their journey of discovery, they find that the bonds of friendship are stronger than the teacher/student relationship. AND THEN of course there are other Manga that have been already made in OVAs yet their story remains untold...unfinished. *sighs* Such sadness.
ChibiHorsewoman
A few that I'd like to see Peach Girl For some reason I can picture NUrse Misao with the seiyuu voice of Megumi Ogata who did the voices of Ten'ou Haruka/SailorUranus and I think Cooan. If not Cooan it was one of the Ayakashi sisters. It would also be nice to actually put a voice with Adachi Momo. I kind of think she'd have a slightly deeper voice where Sae would be real high pitched. Plus, I think it would be a big bonus to have sound effects for Kiley getting smacked in the head and kneed in the groin. But maybe that's just me and my sadisticly twisted mind set. Mars I think it's actually the only other manga I've read that hasn't been animeated. Should I feel ashamed? I think Masao would have some really sinister sounding voice kind of like Nakago from Fushigi Yugi. Then again, to suit his ambiguous looks he may have a female seiyuu like the Sailor Star Lights did for the last season of SailorMoon. I wonder if the lady who did Yaten is still around. I picture Kira Aso's voice somewhat like the girl who plays Mizuno Ami in Pretty Guardian sailorMoon. I can't think of what Rei would sound like yet, but it would be something that betrays a bit of fragility. There are my two pathetic choices. I think I should go read that Battle something or other manga I was talking about a few weeks ago. I don't think that's been animated yet.
Kei
Actually, I think Mars has already been animated. I remember seeing a trailer for it on another DVD, but I may be mistaken, as I can't remember which one it was. Anyways, I'm in agreement with Monkey_Orange in thinking that Demon Diary would be great as an animated series, even though it would probably end up being a 13 ep. The story and art are amazing, but I have a feeling some of that would be taken away at the movement from manga to anime style, as most do. I also think Eerie Queerie might be nice to see animated, though only two volumes are out and I have no idea where the story's going. ^^; It just seems like it would be good, for lack of better explanation.

I've read some of Ludwig, and it has such dark, subtle humor that can be extremely uncomfortable. Still, you can't help but love it once you read it. If it was animated, it would be amazing. Dagger
Banana Fish would make a truly amazing anime. It's simply the best-written manga I've ever read--if the show's scriptwriters could retain even half of the original dialogue, it would already be well on its way to becoming a classic. With its brutal (but not sickening) violence, grim realism and stark character designs, Banana Fish is pretty much unique among shoujo series. A television series based on the manga could appeal to male and female viewers alike. ~Dagger~

Everything I've read of the series shows some decent potential, and was pretty enjoyable to me.
Banana Fish[/b'] would make a truly amazing anime. As Dagger said, the character design is unique, but it's not offsetting in the least, and the dialogue flows very well and all of it seems natural. I agree that it would make an excellent anime series.
Dagger
Nice choices, Lady Katana! I have to second just about everything you've said. ^_^ Eerie Queerie is droll, light-hearted and only four volumes long. This shounen-ai manga could easily be transformed into a twelve or thirteen episode television series. I think that Eerie Queerie would also appeal to more people than, say, Gravitation. Its comedy, which is energetic (yet far from jarring) and almost entirely situational, would translate well from page to screen. There are some serious scenes, but almost no heavy drama. Eerie Queerie's cute, endearing characters keep its delightfully implausible plot twists from ringing false. Unfortunately, few (if any) manwha have ever been made into anime. Demon Diary has a lot in common with an ongoing show called Kyou Kara Maou; they're extremely similar in terms of storyline and overall atmosphere. Both Yuuri and Raenef make charming, guileless male leads--although Raenef is definitely much more of a ditz. Demon Diary's plot and humor are more focused than KKM's. It also places a heavier emphasis on action, and features several magical battles that would look absolutely amazing if animated well. This series does a great job of exploiting its characters' shortcomings and quirks. Despite the fact that Demon Diary ends up having a plothole approximately the size of Kansas, the rest of the manwha is good enough to let me overlook it. ~Dagger~
eleanor
Hehe...Kyou Kara Myou is like Fushigi Yuugi without Miaka and a double order of shounen-ai from what I've read about it. Sounds intersting enough, though. Anyways, as much I'd love for Kill Me, Kiss Me to become an anime, the chances are freakishly slim. 1) It's manwha and 2) it's manwha. I was shocked when Tokyopop started to sell manwhas in the first place, lol. But I think Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles would make a good anime. It'd be pretty cool to see all this crossover stuff [and Fai and Kurogane] and I LOVE the art style [and Fai and Kurogane]. I don't know what the manga would qualify as...shoujo or shounen. Probably both, which is good. :D I could see it becoming an anime, anyway. And I strangely like to see Legal Drug as an anime, too. >_>
lonewolf228
A manga I would like to see animated is called Desert and its about this teen guy who is lazy in class. each time he dozes of he goes to this other world, and the more he goes to it it gets more realistic. eventually he gets summoned by this girl he always dreams about in the world but she doesnt now that he is really a human and just thinks hes a summoned creature, its funny at times and seems to be like it would work better as an anime (I dont watch much anime so my persvective may be a li'l bit screwed.) Dagger
I'd love to see a second season of Yami no Matsuei, also known as Descendants of Darkness. The manga contains more than enough material for thirteen or twenty-six episodes' worth of short arcs similar to those found in the original anime. While the show's ending is decent, it definitely doesn't foreclose the possibility that Tsuzuki and Hisoka will take on other cases. Besides, I like the anime better than the manga (it has superior artwork, for one thing) and would rather watch more of the series than start purchasing the manga for my Yami no Matsuei fix. ~Dagger~
Camlaren
My list would include: FAKE - as in more than one OVA that doesn't even take place at the start of the manga -__- The manga was good, I could see it in a 13 episode series. Legal/Lawful Drug - It would be a great anime! Eerie Queerie/Ghost - Why the heck did they have yo give it SUCH a gay name?! What was wrong with calling it Ghost in the English version?!, *cough* Anyway! It would be a nice light-hearted shounen-ai comedy. It's such a funny manga, I've sat alone laughing insanely at parts in this manga.. and, umm, getting odd looks from people on the street ^__^; Demon Diary - I would like to see this animated. Though I can't say too much on it as I've only read two volumes... NOW - This seems to a very unknown manhwa, it's published in English by ComicsOne and is really an intriguing story plot and *gasp* I'm saying that about an something with NO referance to shounen-ai at all! This animated would make for a really interesting series, I can't wait to read volume 4! Hana-Kimi - From what I've read, which isn't much at all, I'd still say this becoming an anime series would be a good idea, I could see it becoming very popular. Banana Fish - I've only just bought the first volume yesterday - and read it - but I believe it could become a fabulous anime series from what I've read. Tokyo Babylon - My list is getting pretty long, ne? ^__^; I know there is an OVA series for this, but I don't think it did the manga justice. *evil thoughts enter her brain* How about the Gravitation Remixes? Does 20th Century Boys have an anime series? I'd like Kyou Kara Mao to be turned into a MANGA!! *sigh* The stupid thing is originally from a novel series in Japan, not a manga :( I haven't even READ Death Note yet, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say it should be an anime. heh... So, anyway.. I could've kept listing things =P

It's an amusing, silly show that rarely takes itself seriously and has little in the way of genuine drama. Fushigi Yuugi and other series in which the main character ends up in an alternate world are among the anime that Kyou Kara Maou parodies, however. You're quite right about the shounen-ai; when watching the show, it's hard not to suspect that the creators tried very hard to hint at nearly every conceivable male/male pairing.
I haven't even READ Death Note yet, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say it should be an anime. heh...
Right you are. I would love to see an anime made from this once more chapters are out... *sigh* This is why I try and hold off on reading good manga, instead of going and getting caught up in them and ending up waiting week by week, I should just wait till the whole thing is over so I can read it in one go without going insane every week waiting for releases on manga... at least the other way I don't know what I'm missing and am not waiting for anything ALL THE TIME :P

Billy Shears
"Bleach" by Tite Kubo (who did "Zombie Powder"). The manga hasn't even ENDED yet and so far I think it would be a kick *** anime. The characters have great personality, are drawn to fit their attitude, and have an odd sense of cool style that I love to look at.The story is also very inventive, but I won't talk about it, don't wanna ruin it for you.The fight scenes rule too. They flow together well. Tite Kubo, if you ever read this post, for the love of all things holy, make "Bleach" an anime.
