King of Bandits: Jing

I'm surprised that no one has made a thread about this series yet.

I so happened upon Jing through my local library system and instantly fell in love with it.

It follows the exploits of Jing, a young boy who is the (nearly) unmatched King of Bandits, and his wise-cracking, skirt-chasing Gun Crow, Kir. The two of them travel around the world finding treasures and stealing them through various means, often with a lot of comedy and action mixed in.

The art style is definately different from a lot of artists that I've read in the past, but in a good way. The sketches at the end of every book show just how hard the artist works to make the details and things really pop.

The depth of Jing is another thing I like about the series. There are parts of the series where he talks about his mother and keeps hinting at what she was like through the things she gives him at times and other methods. You can only wonder if they'll do a full flashback and let you see her. They might have already done so, as I've only read up to Vol. 5 and I haven't even started on Twilight Tales yet. The back story of Kir was entertaining, too.

All in all, I think this is a wonderful series that I don't think a lot of people really pay attention to. Anyone else have thoughts about it?

yeah I really enjoyed the series from when i first heard about it off the tokyopop website! it's a fun and adventerous manga, with lots of thrilling bad guys, and a kid thief that's the best at the game! I mainly enjoy this manga because not to many story lines follow this path and because of it's unique drawing style. It's one of the best i have and I can't wait to get ahold of the twighlight series that should be coming out soon. I'm interested in getting the anime as well but not to sure on how I will like it compared to the manga.

I like the series too! I first got into it when I saw the pilot episode that I got from Newtype USA.
I bought all seven volumes. And I can't wait to get the Twighlight Tales. I was kinda surprised they made that, but not completely. The series is only seven books. n_n

My local library just got this in the other day, of course, I'd already had a hold on it since it was first listed. I was hoping to get the first book of the series, so I was a little disappointed when I saw I was getting book two. nonetheless, I could still get what was going in. I think I'll have to go buy the first book now, that way I catch up on anything I missed.

You are right, it is drawn in a different way from most mangas I have read (e.x. Jing's neck seems a little long), but I like new changes, and I think it fits him just fine. Not only is this book intertaining, it's also humerous as well. (hehe, Kir is a play-bird.)

Since I have only read book two, I really can't say much else. I like the whole conspect of the world Jing lives in, and a city controlled by time was quite interesting. I personally have wanted to watch the anime series for a while now, but I can't find it anywhere. I'll just content myself with the manga for now, either that or wait for it to be released. (or if it already has, wait till I have enough money to buy it.)

Has anyone see the OVA? I've been wanting to watch that also, just have to get more room on my computer first. ^_^.
SUMMARY:
This is a fantasy adventure which unfolds in worlds beyond human imagination. A city where the world's robbers meet; a casino devoured by evil; a haunted ship with a living anchor; a speeding train run by a Dodo bird; a floating island ruled by a mask; a large sculpture in the sky which waits for a sacrifice; a girl with a tattoo of a famous picture all over her body ... These are just some of the sights encountered by Jing, a thief so accomplished he can steal the stars from the sky.
Hey, my name is lizz. In the future, you should try and make your posts longer ^^;;;

I really like Jing ^_^ Though I like Twilight Tales better than the first series ^^;;

Postino is my fave character~ Hahahaha XD Not sure why~

Jing doesn't seem to be horribly popular though ^^;; (Randomly, the 7th Heaven OVA is really good~ if you haven't already seen it.... check it out! The anime released here is good as well ^^)

I agree. If you want to start a thread about a manga, try putting a bit more thought and detail into in the future, thanks.

Anyway, I love the Jing series. I've collected most of the first series of manga and I caught the first volume of the anime when ADV was having their 50-75% off sale, so I was pretty lucky.

Jing interests me so much because of its crazy art style and interesting characters. I mean, it's not often that you see a talking albatross in the "hopeless lech" role, heh. Jing also has so many mysterious qualities about it,
namely, Jing's mother and Postino,
so it's just so easy for me to fall in love with it. I'm hoping that I can get the rest of the first series mangas soon and start Twilight Tales. ^^ I'm sure it's good.

Squee~

I always thought the art in Jing was a bit like Tim Burton's art ^^;;; Like if he did manga, Jing would be it *laughs* Does that make sense? I always really thought it was cool how the mangaka also worked in a lot of english text and sound effects into the art (I'm not sure if this happens as often in the first manga series? But I know it happens often in Twilight Tales).

I still totally love Postino~ *heart* Something about him is ungodly cool.

If you like the manga, the anime is pretty good as well.. but, like Lady Katana mentioned, it's better to get it on sale ^^: it's great, but not $30 for 3 episodes great (which I think is the price?). I was lucky and got the series on sale as well ^^
