satan665
I have a pretty decent understanding of region codes on DVD's, but what it amounts to for me is the inability of my PS2 to play region 2 DVD's (from Japan). I was 99% sure they wouldn't work on my PS2, but I'm also in the market for a true DVD player. Does anyone know a good DVD player that can play region 1 and 2 DVD's? I know of one guy who had one but it he bought it fairly early in the days of DVD's and I'm not sure if they still exist or not. I'm not really into modifying my PS2 or anything, but maybe someone knows of such a player or a good internet resource for finding one? side note: I almost bought a Japanese PS2 which would have worked but I wasn't sure it was worth it to play import games w/o being able to actually read them. Thanks for any help!
wrist cutter
Yesasia sells all-region DVD players for $99, not bad: http://www.yesasia.com I doubt there are many just "region 1 and 2" players. Usually it's just a specific region or all of them like this one.
Semjaza
Yeah, I've never heard of specific multi-region players. There's a reason that the players have region coding in the first place... Larger companies would be in a lot of hot water if they made a Euro/US player or a US/Japan player. It's all really stupid, but that's how it is. There's lots of sites that sell region free players, though... in addition to the one wrist cutter linked to. I've seen them for even less money, but just be careful with the shipping. A lot of places tend to ship these from Asian countries for pretty big amounts of money.
satan665
A US/Japan one would be cool for anime nerds in general. How many region numbers are there? Does Europe have a seperate one? I happen to know first hand now about how expensive it is to ship to the states now, cost me 60 bones to ship a box of toys and stuff from my vacation in Japan. I can't wait for my Japanese t-shirt with the Famicom system on it (Japanese NES). I also got two little pins with controllers on them :) Do you/anyone have one of those all region players? Do they work well with few hiccups? Thanks
Dagger
A US/Japan one would be cool for anime nerds in general. How many region numbers are there? Does Europe have a seperate one?
Region 1, as you know, is North America. Region 2 is composed of Japan, Europe, the Middle East and (if I recall correctly) South Africa. Region 3 is Southeast Asia; Region 4 is Australia, Central America and South America. The rest of Africa and possibly India are in Region 5. China is the only country in Region 6. I think that should be more or less accurate--it's a pretty confusing system, heh, so I apologize if I got anything wrong. ^_^;; ~Dagger~
