I'm just wondering if anyone here likes Stephen King as much as me. He's by far my favorite author of all time and I've read tons of his books. So, what do you all think of his novels?

I think he's written more good novels than bad ones, but he's still up and down, for me. When he's good, then he's really good; King is adept at getting you interested in the storyline and leaving you somewhat satisfied when you're finished with the novel. However, when King is bad, then he's really, really bad lol. A couple of his novels have just left me shaking my head, but my good experiences with his novels outweigh the bad experiences.

I've read just about all of his "classic" stuff, but his Dark Tower novels are still my favorite, because I've grown rather attached to the characters throughout the series. Like my experiences with King's novels, though, the Dark Tower series is definitely not perfect and there are some disappointing moments within the series along with the good (such as Wizard and Glass, which I felt dragged on endlessly in the middle, but I suppose that it was unavoidable, since King needed to develop
the story of Roland's youth and his romance with Susan Delgado
). But, again, the Dark Tower books are wholly recommended, because they are still very good novels. In fact, book six recently came out, which I still need to pick up and read, heh.

Stephen King, eh? I can't say I've read an extraordinarly large amount of his work, but I've read a couple. I liked The Shining, but thought The Tommyknockers sucked. Still need to get around to reading It.

He's okay, but not nearly as goos as some people say he is. It's not his fault, though; no one could live up to the hype his works generate.

I've read all of his "Dark Tower" series, excluding Song of Susannah, and a few of his other novels, but I'd have to say that The Gunslinger is by far my favorite...even if the writing isn't as good as in some of the others. I'll readily agree that some of his stuff is...well, pretty ick, but everything else just kind of glues your fingers to the book until you can finish it.

Has anybody else seen his ABC series, Kingdom Hospital? I think it's coming to a close fairly soon, but if you havn't had the chance to catch any, then it's not too late to still enjoy what's left.

I have only really read one book: The shining, and i absolutely loved it, the man can certainly convey insanity when he wants to... Does anyone have any good horror stories by Stephen king they recommend reading? I need some books, and hey, whats better then horror... good horror that is.

I have this uncanny ability to pick horror books... that arent horrifying -at all!-... none of them even make me cringe, i mean c'mon, shouldnt reading a supposed horror book, at 12:00pm, dim lights be somewhat scary!? jeesh...

I've only read one of his books (so far) and that's 'salem's Lot. (got it at a flea market for a dollar hehe) I loved it, though it wasn't that scary (for the most part). It was just so intriguing, and his writing style amazes me. And of course I love vampires. ^_^ Right after I finished the book I watched the movie on TNT and that was the most dissapointing thing I've ever seen. They totally ruined it.
I saw a little bit of Carrie (the old version) and it was pretty cool. (I even drew a picture of her.) I watched Rose Red when it was on ABC and loved it. I watched one episode of Kingdom Hospital and thought it was weird...

I'm pathetic, I've only watched the films. I should get into the books because he is somewhat of an influential writer, but I'm too lazy.

I've seen Secret Window, Langoliers, Rose Red and the Shawshank Redemption. He's creepy and good at mind tricks which has always intrested me.

Never read one... got trauma when I was a kid... I watched Stephen King's IT back when laser discs where the thing. The scary clown face got me scared to death (...I was young and clowns were suppose to be funny...) well the movie may not be too horrific nowadays but the spider in the end made me fear spiders the most...

In addition, I can still see Carrie's face when she kills in the movie, the eyes and everything gives me goosebumps...

I guess that's why they created a rating system. It wasn't rated G, tsk tsk, it's the big house for you girl! We can probably all think back to our experiences with R rated themes and how they scared us. Child's Play? That movie is stupid, but I fear dolls now. The clown from IT, i understand (Tim Curry check him out in Legend). For me, my biggest R rated fear will always be Judge Dred, who's power of suck is rivaled only by Arnold Schwartzenager's power of communication.

My name is Carrie, so when I was younger I just HAD to read the book and see the movie. It's an intriguing thought, the telekinesis.
This little obsession, of course, lead to other King novels. I havn't read any in a while; I didn't read all to begin with. The subjects always made me think for a while after I finish the book. When I found my mind wandering, I would be thinking of the book and what it would be like if it were real.
To me, this quaility makes the books really good and worthwhile to read.

Well, like most of you, I haven't been able to read anything of King's aside from "The Dark Tower" Books 1-4. I have Book 5, and I think I just saw Book 6 at Wal-Mart....hrm, I need to catch up on my reading.

I LOVE Stephen King!! Although, I do admit, he doesn't really have a mediocore book. It's either really good, or really bad. Also, I don't think most of the movies give his style justice, because it's his narrations that I love. It's hard to translate that to the screen. I love how he can tie up plot lines and all these different people into one final solution.

Currently I'm in the middle of The Stand. I've also read Four Past Midnight, which contains "Secret Window" (I actually like the book better than the movie, despite Depp's wonderful performance) The Talisman, Black House, It, The Dark Half, Firestarter, The Green Mile, The Shining, The Dead Zone, Dreamcatcher, (I hated that one, but that's just me) Books 1-3 of The Dark Tower Series (Gunslinger is the best) and...probably a ton more, I just can't think of them!

I've also seen Carrie (both versions), Salems Lot, Rose Red, The Dead Zone, Firestarter, Secret Window, and Storm of the Century.

I'm still looking for the books Insomnia, Pet Semetary, Tommyknockers, and The rest of the Dark Tower Series.

Yea, I'm slightly obsessed ;)

You can't be a King fan and not like the Dark Tower series. It's utterly impossible. Though those who say the first one of the series was the best obviously haven't read the newest one.
The beamquake in the the first part of the book was awesome.

The Stand is an awesome book. How King has a way of inter-connecting his books is pretty clever. Most of them have the same bad-guy.

I'm reading On Writing, which I've been bugged by people for almost two years to read. I'm still in the autobiography portion of it, which is still very well written.
