Guest DanteX
Spike's death was extremely powerful and chilling, emphasised by the final word that came outta his mouth before he died ^^;;; But the final fight with Vicious was pretty tame, they should have saved more time for fighting and spent less time on Spike fighting through the leigons of syndicate men.
Oh well, sorry, that's off topic ^^;;; Added
tags. Magnum Apex
Dragon Ball GT
I can't believe an anime made me cry as much as the death of someone close to me ever could. After Goku beats the last Dragon Ball, er... Dragon, he leaves with Shen-ron forever. Nobody realizes this, except Vegeta, who tells Pan after everyone goes back home expecting Goku. Goku then says goodbye to all the people he's made friends with over the whole series, like Piccoro (who's dead at the time). We are then treated to shots of Goku's life from the very beginning. Since I watched and followed and loved the series way before America knew what the heck it was, it literally forced showers of tears to come out from my eyes. I had to take a breather and clean my face afterwards. It was incredibly emotional, because the death signified the true ending of such a long running series, which carries a lot of my fondest memories.
Rurouni Kenshin
Next to Goku's death, this was probably the saddest death I've ever encountered in anime, partly because I was a follower of the show for a very long time. Before dying, Kenshin went through a lot of sad experiences where he was basically a moribund. It was very hard to watch, especially when you're used to seeing Kenshin overcome incredible odds against the toughest of enemies. His death came at a time where he finally felt happiness, as the X scar on his cheek was finally gone... and so was he. Saying that I cried less than Goku's death would be a lie, and I AM NORMALLY UNFAZED BY SUCH THINGS!
X/1999 (TV series)
Unlike the movie, which pretty much slaughtered everyone in the sickest of ways without any regard for character development, the fewer deaths in the TV series were done more cohesively. Kamui's death was sure heart-wrenching, and Kotori's fall came at a time where Kamui was just beginning to trust Fuma and revive their friendship. But nothing compares to the death of Sorata, the happy-go-lucky monk who always remained at Kamui's side, and always preached about dying for a beautiful girl, Arashi. Sorata was always the one to brighten the group, and his eventual death came at a time when Arashi had realized her mistake by turning to the side of the Dragons of Earth to save him. Sorata bravely stopped and even managed to blast off Fuma from killing Arashi, causing his eventual death. It was played incredibly well, and the last shot of the episode with Kamui and Sorata together just added to the emotional tragedy. The main theme of X playing in the background sure didn't help hold the tears from flowing, either.
Cowboy Bebop
Maybe he was living in a dream. Maybe he was destined to die, or "wake up." Either way, Spike's death is nothing short of sad. An episodic series tends to keep its main characters alive, but Bebop straight out killed the very main one. Julia's death would be a close second, since her and Spike had finally found each other, and were planning on living their lives together. Sadly, they couldn't escape their past, which is kind of a negative message to give us if you think about it.
Trigun
You know where I'm going with this, so why elaborate? A character as likeable as Wolfwood shouldn't die, and that's what made it so painful to watch. Unlike the previous deaths I've mentioned, this one had no purpose, or wasn't "the way it had to be." Woldwood was sitting on his knees in the chapel, finally realizing that he cherished the people he was with. Right before dying he said he didn't want to die, that he wanted to stay with them... with her. His wish wasn't granted, and all that was left was the weight of his death carried on by Vash, Meryl and Milly.
Grave of the Fireflies
Setsuko. A casualty of war. The movie is incredibly sad from any point of view, and it never gets better. The death of Setsuko was probably expected, but nonetheless harmful to viewers' hearts.
There are others, but I don't feel like typing them all.
ChibiHorsewoman
I'm a bit obsessed with the deaths in SailorMoon because they're either extremely stupid and avoidable or very sweet and meaningful, even when you know they'll be brought back to life at the end of the season. One of my favorite male anime deaths was in R Season involving Saffiru and Wiseman.
Saffiru had figured out that Wiseman was using his brother, Dimando and was going to kill him. So, he took the disc that was controling the black crystal and went to earth to try and get help. When he got there he ran into the Ayakashi sisters who had been 'healed' earlier in the show by SailorMoon. Turns out that somewhere and sometime which was never actually revealed Saffiru and Petz (I think she was one of the middle sisters) actually had a bit of a relationship...anyways Saffiru tells the sisters that he has to try and save Dimando from Wiseman, never mind the fact that Wiseman already messed him up a bit earlier before he came to earth and he's all bandaged up. Petz tries to stop him, but Saffiru won't listen to her and leaves anyway. But he leaves his jacket with her saying he'll "Be back to get it" Long story short, the Ayakashi sisters get ahold of SailorMoon and company. Saffiru tries to get a hold of Dimando and warn him about Wiseman, but Wiseman attacks Saffiru before he can warn Dimando completely. Saffiru dies in his brother's arms and Dimando is pretty pissed at Wiseman. However, when Saffiru dies the bandage around his head slips a bit and you can see that the upsidedown black crescent moon has dissapered from his forehead.
I think the most moving part of this death was right when Saffiru died he muttered Petz's name and the hook his jacket was on back at her apartment fell from the wall. That was very symbolic.
Guest koshiro
i think the best death is where
vegeta gets turned to stone in the buu saga
:D In the future, please use spoiler tags and add more detail (not to mention capitalization and punctuation) to your posts. Sephiroth
GunGrave
Most of the death's in GunGrave were sad because when they happened you kinda cared for the character's that died, knew some of their past, etc, but most noteable is the ending to GunGrave, really sad when Brandon and Harry kill each other
DragonBall Z
Both of Vegita's death's were sad, the first time he dies you learn of the past and can understand why Vegita came to be as he is. The second time he died it was just plain sad because he was sacraficing himself to saved the people he cared for
Naruto
The Haku/Zabuza death scene was sad because of the way the whole thing was done and presented, and the snow effects at the end were a very nice touch
Rurouni Kenshin
The whole ending to Kenshin was very sad, having him die of lepresy in his wife's arms in a field full of cherry blossoms, that's one of my favourite death scene's
Camlaren
Fushigi Yugi:
Nuriko from Fushigi Yugi was the only death that's made me cry, I don't cry very often watching anime... I don't really LIKE Fushigi Yuugi... yet... the way it happened was so sad.
Naruto:
I think the death of Haku was very sad, though honestly, I found the 'almost' death os Sasuke way WAY sadder.
Any other death I've seen in anime hasn't really made me very sad, that or I can't recall it at the moment... I'm a heartless person I guess o_o
Kamui
Another sad death in anime is in Gundam SEED.
In episode 29 "Turning Point," the Archangel leaves orb and set off to Alaska. As the Archangel reaches the boarder line of orb, ZAFT(all 4 Gundams) start attacking the Archangel. Kira in the Strike Gundam starts to attacking ZAFT and Kira manages to knock off the Dual, Buster, and Biltz gundams off the think their flying on I forget the name. Athrun and Kira are fighting on the ground while the Archangel trying to escape ZAFT. While Kira and Athrun's battle Athrun's gundam loss all power and Kira was about to destroy Athrun in his gundam with his sword when Nicol in his Blitz Gundam comes charging at Kira with his I think sword, when Kira by accident hits Nicol's gundam with his sword and the Blitz Gundam explorode and kills Nicol.:( I cry alot at that part. :(
Dagger
Well, in the final episode of Elfen Lied...
My opinion of an "evil" character was yet again turned on its head. Mariko, the youngest and most powerful Diclonius, transformed into a weeping little girl when she met her true father, Kurama. Only an episode earlier, I passionately hated her for hurting Nana and Lucy... but for some reason, the scene shown prior to her death just made all of that go away. The most heartbreaking moment transpired when Kurama pointed his gun at Mariko's head, fully prepared to kill her, and Nana cried "Papa!" To me, the look of sheer disbelieving horror and betrayal on Mariko's face seemed far more powerful than any of Elfen Lied's numerous gory decapitations. The fact that Kurama chose to die with Mariko showed me that he was ultimately worthy of Nana's adoration. Amazingly enough, even she let them go together. I'm still stunned by how I unquestioningly lapped all of this emotional drama up--Elfen Lied really, really stretches the viewer's credulity, yet I was utterly engrossed throughout Mariko's first and final meeting with her father. Despite her previous cruelty and wanton disregard for human life, her grief brought tears to my eyes. The actual death scene was shown only as an explosion, demonstrating surprising restraint on the part of the director. I've watched it several times and still have no complaints; it's beautiful, fitting and tragic.
Delta
Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex
Tachikomas After figuring out the concept of "death", they had to "die". (Can Tachikomas really die? Surely they can be rebuilt and it won't matter to them 'cause they have one common conscience.) Anyways, their deaths broke a heartstring of mine. I hate seeing cute things get obliterated no matter how blue and metallic they are. Sad.
Animatrix: Program
Virtual Duo Right... another questionable death. Of course, he was just a program but the way Cis eliminated him was downright amazing. Sure, a lot of anime characters die by last-minute reversals but how many die by their sword with a throat stab?
Love and Peace! 2010DigitalBoy
1. Noside
I totally regret looking at the Rurouni Kenshin spolier.
Alright let's spoiler the the obvious ones first. Cowboy Bebop:
Spikes death I think was the first time I ever saw a major character die. All I could say was "NOOOOOO!" It is a perfect end for the anime. The other perfect end would be him living, heh.
Trigun:
Wolfwood's death was just so sad. He did things his way and it was good enough for him, but he sees Vash martyr himself and suffer so much so that no one dies. When Wolfwood tries to do the same with his teacher, he pays for it. He died smoking in a church, that's a perfect spot for him. I'm curious if he did what I thought he did with Millie's friend, I saw the CN version so I don't know. Another death that struck a cord was Legato's death. He forced Vash to do what he never thought he'd ever do, kill someone. He put his head to Vash's gun and forced him to do it, now that's a crazy villain.
DBZ:
Both of Vegeta's deaths. His first death was really sad, didn't think the hard as stone Vegeta could cry. The other one is when Vegeta blows himself up, that one got me. He knew he couldn't stop Buu alive so he thought he could do it dead and he sorta succeeded, atleast he blew him to bits.
X the movie:
Everybody dies and Kamui's alone. I don't remember the names right now, but the fire chick's death/kill of an enemy was pretty cool. The monk's death was sad, he dies for the girl and the girl dies too. Kamui kills his best friend and the girl he loves gets killed too. The goryness of a couple of the deaths made me cringe, wasn't used to it in Anime.
Hitsuji no Uta or Sheep's song:
It was a sad story from beginning to end. I thought Kazuna was gonna attempt to live on and live with the curse, but no he kills himself with his dying sister. It was a linear road to that end, but throughout the last episode I had hopes something would save them. I was hoping the two would accept the blood of their lovers Doctor Minease and Yaegeshi (I think that's how the two names were spelled), but no they decide to end the family bloodline and curse with themselves.
Yu Yu Hakusho:
The beginning of the first episode BAM! the main character dies. It wasn't his death that got to me, but the rest of the episode because of this death. His wake for some reason really gets to me and it brings a tear to my eye.
unknown anime: This is my favorite death, but I forgot the anime. In the end it's two swordsmen fighting, the hero is too weak to defeat the villain, but he didn't intend to come out of this fight alive. So he runs straight into his enemie's sword and takes it in the stomach, doing that gets him close enough to do the final blow and they both die. God I wish I remembered what that anime was, it was a really cool final battle. I need to remember and find that anime, heh. whoa I almost forgot Wolf's Rain:
Pretty much everyone dying sucked, but the worst death to me was cher's and hub's deaths. They reunite and what happens? She dies. I don't know what other people think, but that was like a neighbor's death happening suddenly. Say hi and bye to the neighbor thinking you'll see em' tomorrow and BAM they died. For her it was like okay the car's crashed now they gotta wal....Oh crap!, she dies. That was just so damn sudden. Hub's death was kinda weird, he accepts death and just let's go. He falls head first, yet survives long enough to put a cigar in his mouth and remember cher.
Lamest deaths: All DBZ and GT villains die stupid uneventful deaths. That's all I could think of off hand. Maybe I'll add more in the future.
MaineOtakuNo2
All that I can say without using tags is FF7 when Sephiroth just guides his sword right through the character. It was both tragic and amazing, as Sephiroth found a way so that you could not revive the character, and yet also it was very sad because I think when playing such an RPG you feel connected to the characters, which for me, was most common in FF7. Also its funny whenever Pikachu almost dies in Pokemon.
Dagger
Yu Yu Hakusho: [spoiler'] The beginning of the first episode BAM! the main character dies. It wasn't his death that got to me, but the rest of the episode because of this death. His wake for some reason really gets to me and it brings a tear to my eye.

I completely agree.
It's an excellent first episode because the characters' reactions to Yusuke's death are startlingly poignant. Even without knowing much about the various members of the cast, I thought the wake was touching and very nicely done. Kuwabara's outburst is well-acted in both English and Japanese.
MaineOtakuNo2, if you'd like to use spoiler tags, all you have to do is type
text[*/spoiler], minus the asterisk. ~Dagger~
Jim_Hawking
Best Death Ever:
Ron McDougall
in Outlaw Star Now let me deliberate on this real quick.
The guy was dying slowly through out the series. First starting with the robotic arm, then the robotic body, and then he sacrificed his body for the woman he loved, just so she could run off with Jean.
So that was a pretty good death. But the main reason I choose this is because I cannot come up with a better one. This may be temporary.
Quick side note,
That would be Harry McDougall, not Ron.
Now that that's out of the way. Most heart-wrenching minor/one episode characters death: Noir:
The legionnaire from episode 13 "Season of Hell." This would have been completely meaningless and unimportant if it weren't for the fact that Kirika had a crush on him. Another aspect was, he was killed only because Kirika was trying to give him one of those paintings the art shop owner does very rarely, and she was being followed by some one sent to kill her. What really got to me though was at the end of the episode after Kirika had already thrown her art work and all that in to the river, it wasn't her who was the most torn up about is death. Mireille actually ended up crying, even though she had no connection to him what so ever. I felt myself become teary-eyed after that.
Dagger
Oooh.... I couldn't work up the courage to read those tags, but now I'm really anticipating continuing Noir. :) Has no one here mentioned any of the (numerous) deaths in Saikano? Though it's well-known for its excessive tragedy, the show didn't make me cry until I saw the episode in which
Akemi is killed. Before that she had seemed like a pretty repressed (not to mention depressed) character--more outgoing and vivacious than Chise, but still unable to get the boy she liked. It was deeply painful, and almost cathartic, to watch her finally confess her feelings. Akemi's death scene also made me appreciate Shuji more; he's a lot less wishy-washy than most comparable male characters, and I loved how he spoke to her with such kindness, passion and strength.
~Dagger~
Tatsubei Yagyu
To much to write... but it's strangely worth it. Naruto,
Sasuke's almost death
:
I don't know why, but even after I read my vol. 3 over again after reading vol. 4, and knowing he's going to live, it still makes me sad. I guess it's cause he thought I couldn't stand Naruto, and wanted him out of his way, but when he saw his friend about to lose he's life, he rushs in front of him wihtout a second thought.
I just found that kind of touching... Venge
Dragonball Series Krillian
When Frieza picks him up using some type of psychic ability and blows him up, it wasn't much.[/spolier] But the results were awesome. I always seem to get an adrenaline rush whenever Goku first goes Super Saiayan.^_^ Vegeta When Frieza
shoots him once when Goku arrives on Namek, you seem to learn a bit about Vegeta. After another shot, Vegeta starts to CRY!
Now that is a first to see from him. (Vegeta) The other is when
he self destructs when fighting Buu. I thought I was gonna cry when that happened.
Cell I know he is a villian, but I always seem to become hyper
when Gohan finishes Cell off with the help of Goku and Vegeta.
~Edit~ The spoiler tags went over Vegetas name, so thats why its at the end...I'm not so good with HTML code.
