kenshinsbabe
People say that the kind of music you listen to can define what kind of person you are or what mood you're in. Strange, because, undoubtedly, there are girls on these boards that are like me, and have huge mood swings. Also, I listen to all types of music, which I'm sure many of you do. Right now, I'm in the middle of moving really far away from my best friends to a totally different state and lately, I've been listening to My Immortal by Evanescence alot and, as my older sis says, I've been crying in my sleep. So, does this mean that the kind of music you listen to puts you in a mood, or is it that the kind of mood you're in determines what music you listen to? Trigun 11
Listening to Rock to DOES affect your mood. I listen to Linkin Park and mood I'm in, but, when I'm trying to calm down, From the Inside , Numb, and My December Work. My Immortal Does calm me down , ALOT. When I'm Frustrated or Angry , Any Linkin Park song works. Oh yeah , Can't forget I hate everything about you by three days grace. That Ices the cake
PleasureOfPain
I think the whole music thing you're talking about is a two way thing. It affects you, and you affect it. What I mean to say, is that the type of person you are may affect the TYPE of music you listen to, but the music you listen to slips you into the mood of the song, Like when I listen to "Hello"-by Evanesence, I always get really sad. I don't know, music is emotion. So I guess the mood you're in effects the type of music you're going to listen to. If you're pissed, do you want to listen to Happy music, or Heavy metal?
Hevn
So, does this mean that the kind of music you listen to puts you in a mood, or is it that the kind of mood you're in determines what music you listen to?
Personally, I think both. I listen to my music randomly sometimes and each music has a different genre giving me different kinds of feelings and puts me into different kinds of moods. I think it has something to do with the "karma" of music. I learned that from music class back in highschool but I was too noisy in class to understand it that much. Then again maybe I'll research on it later... ^_^
Shi no Tenshi
I don't think my music really affects my mood unless I am feeling very sensitive. I don't like listening to metal or anything when I'm angry... I just slam on my music and it usually blares out some techno-80's sounding electronica which is a bit freaky but not exactly 'feeling-fueled'. I've given up on most music cause it annoys me sometimes how much emotion a band puts in - it just seems false at times and cliched, although there are some songs I deem acceptable which preach on the subject of emotion.
