Aros
I was just wondering if anyone plays one of the most chalenging RPGs. If anything I would gladly carry a conversation for people that doesnt know what DnD is... I like to enlighten people. :D
gumby
I play DnD. Ussually a wizard or a fighter, which happen to be on opposite sides of the coin. 3.5 really screwed around with wizards making them impossible to play. DnD is the kind of thing i like to call a Nerd sport though.
Cysword6
Actually I have no idea what DnD is but it sounds pretty cool. Maybe I'll look around for it or someone will teach me or something.
ChibiHorsewoman
Actually I have no idea what DnD is but it sounds pretty cool. Maybe I'll look around for it or someone will teach me or something.
D&D (I think that's what the guy meant) is the shortened name for Dungeons and Dragons. Finding someone whole plays it is pretty easy. Just go to your local gaming store (comic shop if you live in a small town) and look for signs advertising gaming groups playing D&D or if you're familiar with the game you can start up your own group. Interesting fact: When you move to a new place joining and RPG group can help you make some friends. I've never played D&D but I've played Vampire the Masquerade. I've been told that Masquerade is kind of like a modern version of D&D with vampires. This information comes from people who have played both along with collecting Magic cards, played around on computers and somehow still managed to get laid .
Guest ScirosDarkblade
I was gonna play D&D but then it never happened. It's really hard to find a DM who has some finesse rather than just "you enter a cave. It's dark. There's a dragon. Are you gonna fight him?" I've played Bioware's D&D-based RPGs (Baldur's Gate I and II, NWN), so I'm familiar with the rules and the universe and I can pretty much jump right into a pencil-and-paper game because I've looked through the main 3 manuals (version 3.5), but I've had no actual playing experience. Transtic Nerve
One time, I went with my boyfriend to watch him play D&D, and i had to do something else. I was so bored.... It was slightly interesting in some weird way, but not really. Now the whole concept of D&D is cool. They use it in lots of games. But I culdn't actually play the game where I sit down and write on a paper imagining what I'm doing.
Prince Van
I've played D&D and I own one of the books, I've been playing it for about 6 years but I only know how to play 3rd edition. My characters are usually Elven fighters, Human fighters or a human Paladin, I play chaotic good characters excpet when I'm a class where you can't be chaotic good. It's rather easy to play and transtic you don't need any paper apart from your character sheet so it can't be that boring and it's just like online RPGs but a LOT more complicated. Pawn114
Yeah, DnD or ADaD both look quite intriquing. However, I dont think I'm going to start playing them now. I, too, have played games using the A/DnD rules, Baldurs Gate, A little of champions of Norath etc. But for now... No. I have, too, glanced through the rulebooks, but only when browsing my local gaming store with my friends. I've played a few games from my friends NES emulator, ADaD and some other I believe, and I truly think: Pen and Paper is way... way cooler then any NES or computer version. It just isnt the same when your with your friends, questing away  (Wow... Nerdism!). -Pawn
Muad'Dib
I got really interested in D&D quite al ong time ago... long story about a friend of mine. Anyway, I bought the 'starter game' or whatever you like to call it. Read through the entire beginer's rule book and tried playing it with my dad and sister... didn't turn out incredibly well, but I still love things related to D&D. I've got Neverwinter Nights, witch is a RPG based completely off D&D with huge multiplayer implications. It kind of keeps me occupied since I suck at the actual game. I've got the player's handbook, but there's so much information in there, it's impossable to memorize it all. I bought a monster manual just for the fun of it... pretty interesting creatures. There's still a lot I have to learn... I'll probably never get really involved though.
Aros
Actually DnD is not a nerdish game like most stereotypes display. It actually is very challenging if you do get into it. Also Baldurs Gate and C.O.N. dont portray good rules for jumping right into DnD, 3.5e did screw up some things, but some were for the better. Most of the games that do use ADnD rules dont calculate the stats right and attacks and other things, so Sciros I think you would have to get a DnD party going and get some experience first before going to JenCon and so forth. IchibanYariman
I play DnD. I'm usually an elven druid. n_n I put a lot of points on charisma, int, and wis. I like to do all the magics and healings. Plus, I get a kick out of being all seductive and what not.

But anyway I don't even know what JenCon is, heh. The only large convention where I live is Origins, and there's mostly miniatures and Magic there as far as I know. And getting a DnD party going would be neat, but the only people I know that play are total losers with zero imagination. And I'm too lazy to flesh out a detailed enough campaign to DM well. Kenso
Well, considering someone on this topic may actually get the joke.... *casts Locate Object and then True Resurrection* Well, this may be a bit of thread necromancy, but I was about to post such a thread (hence searching for it first). So, how many active users here actually do play DnD? And if you do, what are your thoughts on 4th edition coming out? I'm both a DM and a player, though I do prefer playing. Most players don't care for my DMing style, because I'm very off the cuff. I don't often do player hand-outs or maps, because when you see something, chances are I only saw it in my head 5-10 seconds before. Needless to say, it means I keep a lot of notes as a DM. I like to keep notes as a player too. I've taken to using 1-subject notebooks for characters instead of character sheets. Normally, the first 1-4 pages will be a breakdown of the character's abilities organized in a manner I find easy to navigate, and the pages after that are a 'quest journal'. Were I to ever play a wizard (which is probably the only class besides Paladin I haven't even considered playing), the wizard character would have a mini-notebook that goes with the 1-subject for a spellbook. I have played one wizard, but it was before I started the notebook thing (and the campaign didn't last very long). I'm a psionics player. I love the 3.5 psionics system, and have actually written published material for soulknives through a little company that arose from some members of the WotC psionics boards after the atrocity that was Complete Psionic. I think the Eberron campaign setting was a wonderful breath of fresh air, and is far more what I imagine in a world with low-level magic being relatively common. That, and I like the pulp noir feel of the setting. It's an excellent take on a fantasy world. As for 4th Edition, I'm rather on the fence. A lot of what I've seen intrigues me, but I just have so much 3.5 stuff that I'm not sure I want to move on. I willl probably pick up the core 3 in June and go from there. I'm a little upset that they insist on updating the outdated setting that is the Forgotten Realms first, but it was to be expected. Although I can't complain to much. Some of what I've seen with what they're doing with that looks like it takes care of a few of my issues with Faerûn anyway. On a random side note to past posters: It's GenCon, not JenCon. Roxas
Ah... D&D. Brings me back to the days when I did play... which wasn't long mind you. -_- Love the game though. And to you guys and gals who do play... you ever realize how many feats a Human/Fighter gets? They get the 7 you normally get, the 1 at first level, and the 11 fighter bonus feats, that's 19 feats at 20th' level. Imagine what you could do with all that. *starts imagining his Human/Fighter that carried a Scythe* Ah... the critical hits... x4 damage... on a 19-20... cuz I speacilized like that... not to mention the cleaving.. oh the cleaving. Anyways, yeah, I used to play.
The Spectacular Professor
Chibihorsewoman's back... again! Yeah, so I've never played DnD, but it sounds pretty fun. I'm usually into stuff I can do on my computer or game systems.
Allamorph
Chibihorsewoman's back... again!
Check the dates, bucko. That post was from almost four years ago. =P (In fact, how'd this thread get rezzed, anyway?) I'm kind of semi-interested in it. I'd probably play casually, since I know it'd be pretty fun, but I'm kinda leery about people blurring the line between story and reality. Than also, I've got other things that want my time, so I'm not feeling too gung-ho over it. My father played in college. He said something about a night elf, I think—which is funny, seeing how I lean towards half-elven myself.

Kenso
(In fact, how'd this thread get rezzed, anyway?).
I'm responsible. It was here, and I was going to make such a topic, but searched first, so I figured it couldn't hurt. On a very on-topic and very serious note, for those who are players, today is a sad day in gaming. Gary Gygax, the man most responsible for D&D, passed away at his home earlier this morning. It was here, and I was going to make such a topic, but searched first, so I figured it couldn't hurt.
The only real problem with reviving an old thread is if either the posts are no longer relevant, or if the quality is severely lacking. I don't know enough about D&D to determine relevancy, especially since I've never played it. But the quality is just fine so I don't see a problem with the revival. And you're right, it doesn't hurt to revive an older thread. Especially since it's easy for me to separate something into a new thread if the old thread is better off left in the grave. ;) Anyway, as for the topic, as I said, I've never played this game. So I don't have anything to say about it. I had friends who did when I was growing up, but I didn't find the idea interesting so I never joined in. Allamorph
Well, you know me. I was just picking at a thread rez that happened during the explosion of new members. (Which was a very good thing.) I'd hate to have been a moderator during that time. Wowzers. I'll have to check up on the latest character data stuff, but from my last memory, I was not impressed with the handling of the "anthros". 'Course, I gots me my own theories, but still. I'd rather not feel like a misplaced member of the Cats cast, neh? (Wowzers again; I used four 'z's in this post. O_O)
[Sound_Nin]
Wowzers. I knew this had to be an old one, 'cause I subscribed to it forever ago. And since I subconsciously drift back to my Subscriptions page, I saw it and kind of went like this. > :o Cause I had no clue where it came from. And I didn't even post in it. Anyway, no I don't play it, mostly 'cause I live in a small town, nowhere to get it. But it's really something I'd like to try, since I've been into online roleplaying since... well... about the time I came here! Which is 6 years ago. But I think I was involved in it before then, and yes I was 10 at the time. But I wasn't horrible, as you might expect. It's how I came to be such a good speller, unlike all the txt tlkrs of my generation. EDIT: I said Wowzers too?! I didn't even notice the post before me. o.O
