Kei
Right... 1) This topic was last active in August of last year. We'd prefer if members don't bring back threads over two months old, unless they have something really stellar to contribute. 2) Mangas are the basis of which animes are produced. The only things that aren't are the current "Ani-Mangas" that TokyoPop is currently producing, and those are hardly even worth the title. In fact, they're not. >.>; But everyone is entitled to their own opinion. If you feel manga are pointless, so be it. But please get your information correct if you want to criticize them.
Animegirl4ever
Actually, most of the time, the manga is different then the anime series. Yes, it follows the same plot but, all the anime on tv is dubbed. If you were to buy the manga then, you can see all of it without worrying about the dubbing. Also, if you wanted to purchase an anime DVD the best thing to do would be to buy the manga version first so if you don't like it you wouldn't have to waste all that money. Another thing about the Yu-Gi-Oh manga. Here in the USA they never showed the first season, (where yugi solves the milleneum puzzle). So, if you want to see the first season of Yu-Gi-Oh then you should buy the manga cause it would be expensivve to buy the imported DVD of the first season. Well, I hope that helped^__^
Kei
Yes, it is true that the anime may differ in some aspects from the anime, but the manga is the original story the author wrote and/or drew. In most animes, you'll see a small text that may say "Based off the story by so-and-so," meaning that it's not entirely the original author's work and may include new stories and sub-stories involving the main characters of the manga. Also, while anime may add stories of their own, animation studios also leave out some parts of the manga they feel may be unimportant or not entertaining to the anime audience (Ranma 1/2, for instance). So, for that reason, it's better to actually do both, as you may get some entertaining stories from them, but if you want the original the way the author wanted it, it would be in your best interest to read the manga.
Dagger
I think I mentioned this in one if my earlier posts, but man was that ever a long time ago... There are so many incredible stories that never have been and probably never will be animated. As an example, Death Note (probably not the best example, given that it's a Shonen Jump title and as such has a fairly good chance of becoming an anime, but bear with me) is simply incredible. It has one of the most fascinating, engrossing and suspenseful plots I've encountered in any form of entertainment. Not to sound cheesy, but it's really a work of art. I'd be deeply saddened if someone missed out on it--or any other quality manga-only series--because he or she assumed manga has nothing to offer which one can't already find in anime. ~Dagger~
QuincyArcher
In my opinion mangas are almost always better than their corresponding animes. In mangas, they have a lot more freedom to go into detail since they are not limited to 30 minute episodes (or 22-24 minute with commercials) and they can expand on many areas whether it be in the plot or in the characters development or even the settings. I think that this allows for a much deeper more entertaining story as well as much more well rounded characters. Some great examples of this would have to be series' like Love Hina, FLCL, Chobits, Neon Genesis & (most of all) Bleach. (i bet you didn't see that one coming). Also a lot of times in the transition from manga to anime, the original creators of the series' are left out of the production, or only play a minor role in the production of the anime, so in the transition the series looses a lot of the smaller and less noticeable points that make them so great. ChibiHorsewoman
And you can't watch Anime on a train, bus, car, but you can read ^-^
Three words : Portable DVD Player Ok, maybe when you take DVD and turn it into three more words Digital Video Disc it's really six words, but hey, what do you people want from me? All I'm trying to say is if you have a Portable DVD Player you can watch anime anywhere. Heck, you could be sacriligious and watch it in church.... True you may be smited or annoy people by yelling at INuYasha, but you can watch anime anywhere. Still manga is more portable than the DVD player...and more affordable
Ed Elric
I love manga. I read more manga then watching anime. I like reading the manga of one series ,like inuyasha, before watching the anime. The manga can have a lot of differences than its anime. :catgirl:
Filipinorocker1
:animesmil Now There are many reasons why u should buy mangas. One is that Most animes change the storyline or give the plot twists that are not in the manga. Personally I think that reading the manga even if I had seen the anime is still a must. Because the manga is the original art of the original creator of that manga. From looking on the cover on most mangas the characters look exactly like the anime, but in the manga there might be some kind of character the anime took out or the characters might look slightly different than in teh anime series. If you read the manga You get the whole story. Now when it comes to choosing whether to buy the manga or just watch the show I just go by what I saw first teh show or the manga. Overall Manga is awesome. Its definetly worth buying.
