mononoke_man
in this thread, you tell me what you think is the most tragic video ame character death. Mine would have to be
Aeris from Final Fantasy VII
. And i'm sure many would agree with me if they saw it :bawl: Im sorry, I need to go use a tissue... :( Please remember to use spoiler tags when revealing information about a game's plot. You use the tags by doing {spoiler}text{/spoiler}, only substituting [ ] for { }. - Shinmaru
Shinmaru
I think my most tragic video game character death is when I died in Super Mario Bros. 3 when I was fighting Bowser. That's the only time in my life that I've gotten to the end of the game and Bowser killed my poor Mario. Many, many tears were shed that day. Krycifer
I think this is one of the most tragic deaths ever in Metal Gear Solid when
your going against sniper wolf for the first time with Meryl when you bet Sniper Wolf Meryl isn't there any more and then you get captured and take an endurance test trying to regain health than you submit and then Meryl dies since you submitted.
Added spoiler tags. - Shinmaru
Shinmaru
Okay, I think that I need to step in and remind people that when revealing any part of a game's plot, no matter how many people you think know about that plot point, always put spoiler tags around it. There's an explanation of how to use the spoiler tags edited into the first post of this thread. Use them and use them well, or else you shall incur the wrath of many people who did not want the plot of a game to be spoiled.
PWNED
My most tragic Video game death would have to be
Nanami from Suikoden 2.
That was the only video game daeth which induced tears to my eyes. S'cuse me while I go to the bathroom and bawl my eyes out.
TOTALIMMORTAL
I think the most tragic video game death was
the "death" of Tidus in FFX. You don't really know if he's dead but he turns into those pyrefly things and he jumps off the airship. Just when things were starting to go really good with Tidus and Yuna he has to leave. That sucks. Well, I guess if that hadn't happened there wouldn't have been an X-2. Aeris would have been my first choice by the way.
Desbreko
In my mind, there's just no contest for this. . . . At least out of all the games I've played. That is,
Crono's death
in Chrono Trigger. Even though
he can be brought back later
, that was the most shocking death I've ever seen in a video game. It seriously made me sit there for a few minutes and ask myself, "How could this happen?" It was hard to accept; I actually hit reset and replayed that part, to see if there was any way I could stop it from happening.
Strayed Soul
The most tragic death for me would have to be
Aeris from final fantasy 7
. The first time I saw that I turned my game off for 3 months before evern turning my play station back on.
Falkon
ooooooh have i got a great one.... heheheheheheh ok, in the recently released game Psi-Ops, i love going around in the training room and lifting people up with my psi powers, then taking the shotgun, and blowing their heads off....eh heh... thats pretty tragic
DeadSeraphim
For me it was when
Aeris was killed...
I played the game through about three or four times to see if I could prevent it, but to no avail. Of course, each time I was using some bogus 'guide' from GameFAQ, and thats put me off the site for all time.
When Ninja died
is right up there too... considering his past, and how noble he had been in the game when he wasn't totally wigging out, it was a bit disheartening to see
him crushed under Metal Gear's meaty hoof
. It made me think, 'That really cool dude was just creamed, how the **** am I supposed to do it?' Of course, Stinger missiles saved the day. ;)
Clause
The most tragic death? I say when
my Mocchi died in Monster Rancher 2. *sob*, I had no idea, until it was too late to freeze him...
waahhh!!!!
TheShinje
Well, I'd have to say that the most tragic death "me-controlling" would have been my Ifrit in Final Fantasy 10. I had heard that usings Ifrit's fire could make him heal himself, so I annihilated myself with a meteorite strike! 'Twas a pity, poor Ifrit's first outing. It was later I realised my friend meant fire magic. I'd have to say that the worst character death was
Tidus in FFX, granted, I'm not even up to that yet, at this game I'm still a newbie, but my friend showed me the cut sequences he had saved later in the game. I was thinking that it would have made me feel cheated! Coming all this way to die inevitably. I hadn't seen an ending quite like it before, and thought it was rather an unpleasant twist, unexpected? yes! I guess that makes it a good endign in a way. Who'd have thought?
I haven't seen Final fantasy X2, though apparently
Tidus is alive,
I'd like to see how they explain that. natetron46
My most tragic death is probably when
(i thought) jan died
in jedi knght 2 jedi outcast. She had been with kyle for like 3 games, and then nothing.....wow. i was pissed i played hte whole game straight through after that happened. I spent two days strait playing to avenge her death, and
then i realize that shes not even dead
I was actually mad at the game after i found out, but i got over that, and the fake was a good excuse to get 2 days of playing, and to beat the game of course! Added spoiler tags. - Desbreko
Guest Vash331
Alright now that i get spoiler tags, i can make a post... Everybody keeps saying
Aeris in final fantasy 7
is the most tragic and i'd have to agree except for that when i got
her very best weapon so early in the game i just kinda wondered what was up, I knew because i like to use guides every now and then, mainly when i rent or borrow games and i have a limited time to play, anyways it was sad and all but what about the Legend of Zelda: Windwaker? The king of hyrule drowns after the final battle with ganondorf, it was so sad.........
Engel
Mine was
Aeris from Final Fantasy 7, or when I was trying to get to the other side of the reactor core in Enter The Matrix. I jumped off a small ledge while in focus, grabbed the metal bars some 20 feet away, and fell. I think the most tragic was Aeris orTidus. I bawled for I don't know how long after each of them died. The bad thing is, I finished FF7, then beat FFX some 10 minutes later.
Dragonfaery
The most tragic character death I watch was actually more of a death of a couple. In Suikoden 3,
Luc and Sarah died together in those ruins.
So romantic yet devastating in my view... I held in the tears throughout the ending of the game then when I saw
their souls flying past Leknaat,
I burst. I flew into the bathroom and stayed in there for an hour or two. Guest Mad Acer
I never got to the end of FFX because it was too hard and I give up too easy, and I never played FFVII so I've never really experienced any tragic video game character deaths. I guess one of the top ones would be in Halo, when
the Master Chief kills Captain Keyes. I didn't really feel sad, I just felt that good old MC had a great sense of nobility to kill his own Captain. Another great tragic death in that game was when Jenkins was killed by the flood spore. That is the most intense cutscene in that entire game and the only reason to play that level.
Rachael
I'd have to agree with a few people when I say
Aeris' and Tidus's death was very sad for me....Except not the way you'd expect....I did feel sad for tidus when he couldn't hold yuna but when I saw Aeris get stabbed by Sephiroth. My first reaction was "Crap....she was my strongest character.......*sob* *sob* why me WHY...oh ****" THAN I felt bad for her death
Semjaza
I must be the only person that didn't care
Aeris
died. As far as I'm concerned, there was very little reason to give a crap about her. She was a bit more developed than other characters in the game, but it happens so early on (comparatively), that I never really got all that attached to her. I suppose that kind of makes one of my choices seem somewhat ironic or hypocritical. One that stuck with me pretty strongly was the
death of Cyan's family in FF6. Between the poisoning of the town by Kefka and Cyan dealing with their spirits on the train, I felt it was very poignant. Cyan perhaps isn't very developed outside of this, but it was really dealt with a very heartfelt manner and it came off really well.
I don't feel that the characters in FF7 were as "human" as those in FF6 for whatever reason. Just my personal opinion. Another one is Buzz Buzz in Earthbound. I don't feel this is much of a spoiler since it's really in the first ten minutes of the game, but whatever.
Basically, he's a warrior from the future that comes to warn your character and persuade him to save the world. For some strange reason, he takes the shape of a fly. He comes out of a meteor that crash landed on the hillside above your house and follows you back home. Of course, you're attacked by a random Starman. At this point you realize how insanely strong the guy is. It makes his death all the more disheartening and tragic, I think. Imagine how easy things would be if he survived. Especially since he's killed by your friend's mom who slaps him down because she thinks he's a dung beetle. You get a speech from him on his death bed that really lasts forever. You think he's almost done and he goes... "I'm almost gone... Oh wait, I forgot..." and then he juist keeps going lol.
That game is so damn random. Everyone always seems to be affected by it, probably because FFVII was the first real mainstream console RPG. Nobody else had played any prior RPGs so they had never had the chance to watch boring characters die before. Of course, that particular moment in the game is diminished somewhat by FFVI's goofy American translation, but it's still a moment that sticks out in your mind. Also,
I liked the scene with the death of Emperor Gestahl in FFVI, not really because I think it's tragic, but I think, along with the death of Cyan's family, it highlights what Kefka is: A sneaky, backstabbing prick.
Guest Heezay
You're forgetting what else Kefka did: he killed
General Leo
in Strago and Rem's hometown. I was really pissed off and yet saddened after that scene, especially during the funeral.
Gelgoog Pilot
Most tragic death eh? I would say in suikoden 3
the entire village...that is burnt to the ground basically. There you see the little boy being killed by Chris and the other villagers fighting for their homes and just being cutdown.
Yeah I felt that FFVII's was good too I mean I felt sad though I really liked Tifa a lot better heh. :D
Semjaza
Continuing the FFVI deaths... This one was actually optional. Depending on your performance, you could affect if this person lived or died.
Cid in the World of Ruin, obviously. I already liked Cid because of his actions earlier in the game. Celes was also very likable at that point as well. His death is pretty sad considering he sat and nursed her back to health before becoming sick himself. Of course, it's all averted if you get him some good fish to raise his health back up, but if not, I think it's one of the sadder deaths in the game.
Desbreko
Whee, it's a trend. :p Another part from FFVI that I thought was sad was when Kefka
killed a bunch of the Espers in Thamasa. What really did it for me was when Ifrit fought Kefka and used Fire, Fire 2 and Fire 3, and Kefka just blocked all three spells before killing Ifrit. The Espers tried to avenge their friends that were taken to the Magitek Facility in Vector, only to be slaughtered themselves.
Guest Iamcrazyfangirl
Here's one I can't believe hasn't been mentioned yet!And I think it's pretty tragic!
Lavitz in Legend of Dragoon. MAAAAN WHY HIM?!!!!! WHY WHY WHY?!!!!!! I already liked him because 1. He was a great ally and 2. He was a very good friend. So you finally get to the end of Hellena (For the second time) And then He's dead. *sniff* No saving him or nothing. DAMN YOU LLOYD!
*sniffle* :( :crying: :bawl: I think I need a hanky.
