Kittie
do you think that muzik has an influence on kids? meaning to say that kids do certain things because of muzik...e.g killing other people or killing themselves? I don't understand how people blame muzik for some kids inability to function sanely in this crazed world. The people that think music tells you to kill yourself or to kill someone else are just idiots in my opinion. the people who do kill themselves and blame music are just weak feeble-minded idiots. People today are just looking for a scapegoat. They don't want to believe that they failed as a parent or that something may be wrong with their child. So, they blame anything else that they can. And since they don't like the music most of today's youth listens to anyway, that's what they blame. anyhoo, tell me your opinion because i'm quite interested in knowing others responses!
XxmagentaxX
I agree with you completely... i hate it when people blame stupid crap like music on things that are going on.. It's stupid as hell...And for somereason people believe it which i don't understand for one minute why anyone would believe that Music could hurt anyone.... Transtic Nerve
Anyone who think music influences a person's thinking or ability to reason is a complete and udder moron. I don't care if you listen to Rammstein, Britney Spears, Marilyn Manson, Snoop Dogg, Dir en grey, whoever.... It doesn't effect ones ability to act the way they want to act. And anyone who's mind is influenced by lyrics in music is weak minded

GinnyLyn
Careful. Let's not spend this entire topic talking about how stupid people are, however true that may be. I think people listen to music for one of two reasons: 1-It sounds good. 2-It reinforces what they believe. This is a thin line I'm treading, so bear with me, please. I say people already have certain ideas in their mind. You can blame it on tv/enviroment/music/what not; regardless, people have to make their own choices and beliefs in the midst of it all. Even when it seems someone is stuffing a belief down someone else's throat, the someone else is partially responsible for giving in, or choosing to walk away and not let the belief take over them. When kids hear songs about guns and killing, etc., I believe they think, "Well, since the song talks about it and says what I think, I must be right." Mind, I'm not saying the music is controlling the kids; I'm saying the kids make the choice themselves, end of story. There is no excuse for anyone's behavior--not history, not enviroment, not any sob story at all--life is what you strive to make it. The only exception I consider in making choices is someone who is mentally unable (and I mean that in the nicest way possible). There, I'm done.
Lady Macaiodh
i'm not sure on this one. here's an example of one argument: when metallica released "fade to black", a slew of kids killed themselves. they put in their suicide notes that they never understood the futility of life (or something along those lines) until they heard that song. so one could say they were influenced. on the other hand, those inclinations could've been there all the time, & hearing the music brought it to the surface, or reminded them somehow. like when i hear this one song, "MIA", i always think about my best friend's abortion & how she was hysterical for weeks afterward. i don't normally think about that, but hearing the song reminds me, sometimes upsets me. it depends. either way, it's hard to say to what extent people are influenced by music. obviously, hearing a certain song can be incredibly moving &/or emotional. i suppose it comes down to how volatile the person is. Lady Macaiodh
thank you, it's so nice to be appreciated. something else... has this ever happened to you? you hear a song that describes your life so perfectly that you think, "i should've written that." so you get pissed at the band b/c they wrote it before you. mornigndew
In certain case only. Not everyone influence by listen to music. I guess parent just need to blame on something else instead of themself.
No-Name
definitely. my sister listens to a lot of that ghetto rap stuff (i like it too) about girls showin body and stuff, and its really influenced the way she dresses. MTV is the devils work, cause that has totally changed her since she saw it when she was 9. Music doesnt influence me at all except for my emotions. XxmagentaxX
The point of music is to make you feel something .. to express emotion.. it's not telling you to kill people or do other stupid drastic things... it's just that people say that when don't want to admit that there is something truely wrong.. they blame music, tv, and a whole bunch of other crap that as nothing to do with what is going on... and i am really sick of it... I know that music shouldn't effect the way you act. it should effect the way you feel (hopefully in a positive manner) I know thats what music has always done for me.. because music is an expression

I never get tired of that song. My favomorite line is "Life is too short short so love the one you got, cause you might get run over or you might get shot." Lol, very comforting, ya know? Also, if you want to get cheered up, there's always Reel Big Fish. Any song by them is good, I reccomend "Sell Out" or "She Has a Girlfriend Now" :D  But anymawhos, I do not believe that music influences the listener to do stupid stuff. It's just a stereotype. If someone sees someone else oh lets say.. walking around with a group of friends, all with their pants sagging and whatnot. The persons going to say "Gee they must listen to rap, they are bad people since they dont know the use of a belt, blah blah blah" Someone sees another wearing a lot of black with a right-side up pentacle around their neck. The person would think, "Gee, that person is satanic" when they dont even know the a right-side up pentacle is not even a satanic symbol, they just assume that because they are wearing a lot of black to go along with it. It all goes back to that people are stupid, closed-minded, selfish a-holes who care nothing but themselves and don't think they can do anything wrong and they can judge people correctly(im just referring to MOST people, not all). I dont know if that made sense, I just kept on typing whatever spilled out and im too lazy to go back and re-organize my thoughts right now, if i need to go back and clear something up, i might..oh well, but there ya go.
