Hey, I'm down with talking about Fruits Basket seeing it's my favorite anime and second favorite manga (Dragon Knights is my favorite manga)

Yeah, I have to agree Kyou is definitely my favorite character, although at one time I thought Hatsuharu was going to take Kyou's place as favorite.

yeah fb is one of my fav mangas as well! i'm not sure if i like the anime better then i like the manga though. to my mind the manga gives you a better in sight on the characters and and wuts really going on thought out the stoty. my fav character would have to be shigure! him and ayame are hilarious when together. But to me the cutest charater would be haru, i just love his hair style!

I got into Furuba through the anime series (the promo DVD was on sale for, literally, one penny at my local FYE) and I quickly purchased the whole series, falling in love with it. The manga promises even more goodness. Since the script writers stayed pretty loyal to the original manga, there haven't been many surprises in the first three volumes, except for a few changes with
how Tohru found out Hatori's zodiac animal
(that was a mini spoiler, nothing big), so that led to a tiny bit of confusion when I rewatched the anime.

However, with more volumes, there promises to be pleanty revealed
Including Rin, who is the horse, and whoever is the rooster
since the anime was started and completed while the manga was still running. Another very appealing thing is a different ending, with, hopefully, some more closure on the whole series.

Right now, I really can't say whether or not I prefer the manga to the anime. The anime definitely had a lot more comedy (or maybe it's just because I had heard the jokes before), and that's understanable because there's just so much more potential with anime. However, I'm really getting into the story of the manga, and the gorgeous artwork, and I'm hoping for a good ending, because the one in the anime kind of left you hanging.

So, that's all I have to say on that. More updates as new volumes are released!
I got into Furuba through the anime series (the promo DVD was on sale for, literally, one penny at my local FYE)
That's how I got into it! I buy my anime at Suncoast, so there was a DVD, 2 episodes for $2 so I was like "May as well try it, it's anime." And now it's my favorite anime series and second favorite manga series (Dragon Knights takes first EASILY). I'm really looking forward to the later volumes of Fruits Basket so maybe we can finally find out who Tohru ends up with (Although I'm convinced its Kyou-kun, the kitty needs some loving) or if the curse is ever broken (and how the curse started, yada yada yada. I bet the manga past where the anime ended will explain some of that!)

I'm very happy that a somewhat decent conversation has spawned from this topic, but I will say that that was no way to start a topic. If you're going to start a discussion about a manga, go into some detail about why you like it so much. Talk about the art, the writing (or translation, I guess I should say), or other things that catch your eye about it. Try and put some ideas out that would make somebody think a little. Just posting to have a place to post about it is a pitiful reason, for sure.

I've said before that I try not to buy both the anime and manga versions of a certain series unless they're drastically different (as in the case of Revolutionary Girl Utena). However, I really like the Furaba anime, and I've recently learned things about the manga's storyline which make me suspect that a sequel to the television show would be difficult--if not impossible--to pull off.

To make a long story short, the latest chapter of the manga came out in Japan a little while ago. Finding out what happens in said chapter completely changed my perception of the characters' relationships and the series as a whole. I'd love to discuss this with someone, but beware; it's a spoiler of absolutely colossal proportions. Proceed with caution.
Akito is a woman.
And it's true, I swear.

What I'm genuinely curious about (since I've only read one book of the manga, and it mirrored events in the anime almost perfectly) is whether this was hinted at in earlier volumes. From what I can remember, the anime definitely didn't provide any kind of set-up for such a drastic plot twist, although
Akito did seem a little.... er, not entirely straight.
Generally, we don't like to bring back threads more than two months old here on OB, especially when there's one that's far more active available to post in, as in the case here. That being said, I'm going to go ahead and lock this on up. ^^
