Anime Saving The Big O

I'm not asking anyone to agree with me. I'm not even asking anyone to believe my opinions are even justified. All I am doing is what I think I am obligated to do.

I'm Amy, the Public Relations moderator of SaveBigO-dot-com, and I'm here to tell the Otaku Boards of our mission to push for more [i]The Big O[/i].

Despite the twenty-sixth and final episode, and the sketchy yet appearent finality of Cartoon Network's decision to end any more development of The Big O, my colleagues and I believe there is still creative potential left within it and its story.

It would be hard for any otaku to say that he or she has ever gotten full respect as a fan of Japanese anime from another person not an actual fan his or herself. So the fact that Cartoon Network has, up to this date, responded with "No more Big O" [i]only[/i] on postcards sent back to fans pleading for the opposite, can only be percieved as disrespectful and a reflection as its overall attitude towards fans of anime. No official statements or notices. [url="http://www.savebigo.com/images/Protest_backanon.jpg"]Just postcards[/url].

Mike Lazzo, the senior vice president of Cartoon Network and the executive in charge of the Adult Swim block, [url="http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/503/503483p1.html"]foresees the future of Adult Swim as predominately low-quality, low-budget "funny cartoons"[/url].

Contrary to our best efforts to prove otherwise, many people believe that SaveBigO-dot-com is trying to accuse Mike Lazzo of phasing out anime from Adult Swim. This is far from the truth. We do, however, find it illogical that a network that did so much to capitialize off of [i]The Big O's [/i]success is now dropping it like a hot stone.

I, as well as my peers, see many more possibilities for [i]The Big O[/i] beyond its twenty-six episode run, and we are trying to get Cartoon Network to see that, too. Currently, Sunrise, the studio that produced and animated [i]The Big O[/i], has shown no evidence whatsoever that proves that it wouldn't make more Big O, or that the story of [i]The Big O[/i] has actually been concluded. (As a matter of fact, Chiaki J. Konaka, the story editor and writer in chief of [i]The Big O[/i], has posted a link to SaveBigO-dot-com on the front page of his website, saying "Do You Want To See 3rd?")

This is only the beginning of perhaps another years-long effort for [i]The Big O[/i]. We at SaveBigO-dot-com are asking for the support of anyone willing to partake with us on that effort. If you are interested, please, join us at our forums.

Okay, I've PMed Solo about this, and I'm going to avoid locking/merging/blessing the thread until he responds.

Let me start by saying that while your post is intelligently written and might inspire any number of interesting discussions, a good portion of it could be interpreted as blatant advertising--something which OtakuBoards' rules strictly forbid. Since you've linked to relevant articles as well as your main page (and, more importantly, provided plenty of fodder for debate), I don't personally have a problem with permitting the topic to remain open. Just bear in mind that things like this (petitions, etc.) are often killed as soon as they pop up; your carefully laid out argument and impeccable grammar convinced me not to close your thread.

Under normal circumstances, any topic related to either season of The Big O would be shifted to the pre-existing "official" thread. If the discussion here begins to dwell on the ending of The Big O II rather than on Adult Swim's attitude toward/treatment of The Big O and various other anime titles, I'll feel justified in merging the two topics. Should that not occur, I wouldn't mind continuing to keep them separate.

I do apologize if I broke any rules. I guess I should have read them before I posted... Erm. Also, I had no knowledge of Otaku Board's policy on threads like this. I have to admit, I only joined here to do my job of Public Relations moderator and tell Otaku Boards about this issue. But I would like to see if other members here will be professional about posting at this thread; if they are, I just might rethink being here just for this.

Anyways... I am relieved to hear that someone is willing to keep this thread open. From my past experiences, I know all too well how imflammatory this issue can be. That is why I spent nearly an hour writing what I did. Since these boards seemed like such a good place, I wanted to be absolutely sure I did not write like it was too propaganda-ish or try and avoid the facts. Also, I am very flattered that my spelling and grammar helped save this thread. I figure it to be an obligation of forums users to use the English language properly; if you spent time on what you wrote, and did it with respect and dignity, others will spend the time to read it and respond respectfully and with dignity in return.

I sincerely, sincerely thank you for your wonderful cooperation. It is the best thing to happen when I or my friends try to post at other forums. Even if no one agrees with me, I always greatly appreciate polite, civil responses. It is immensely appreciated, and I cannot tell you how grateful I am for it.

Again, I thank you very, very much. I hope that this thread can be host to some good and quality arguements.

That way, people can see the link whenever you post, but it's not intrusive advertising.

I'd have to agree that the way Adult Swim seems to be handling this is rather offensive. I'm just glad I live in the UK...[/COLOR]
