Basically, Painful Paradise is a 'tournament style' RP set in Ancient Rome, with eight gladiators and one prize: freedom. Not only that, but there is scenes that help push forward story outside of the arena also, which (hopefully) will serve to make the character's appear more human and make for some more interesting battles. Click the above image to find out all you need to know. Only the 'About' page is active, because the RP has to actually have commenced before the final pages can be made. If there is any questions PM me. Now, let the games begin.
BlueYoshi
Name: Persephone Hermes Age: 34 Ethnicity: Greek Weapon of Choice: Trident. Biography: Was once a supreme war general in his native homeland of Greece. Apparently, Persephone's age got the better of him, and was forced to move down the ranks in place of a more youthful successor. Working at minimum wage as a measly soldier, Persephone took out his anger with the booze, draining bottle after bottle after bottle, hoping that it wouldn't be too long before he developed an ulcer, where he could finally lay in peace at his death bed without a care in the world. One night, after a long shift of guarding the front gates to the King's palace, Persephone found his way to the usual inhabitant bar that he'd gotten so use to and drank his depression away as always. By utter and complete coincidence, this "successor", who had practically stolen Persephone's life, made a guest appearance at the bar for a couple of drinks with his woman? totally out of the military act. Persephone divulged in the hatred he had burdened over shoulders for so long and immediately lanced at him, cutting him and his woman down in an instant. Many of the locals made haste to call the authorities, but by then, the bartender had already showed Persephone the backdoor so he could make a nifty escape and avoid imprisonment. However, had Persephone been in a sober state, he surely would've taken advantage of the opportunity and made good use of it. Unfortunately, all the excitement of that one night tired him out and pressured him to nap? where the next morning he woke up in a Roman ship. To this day, it still remains a mystery to him as to why or how he got captured that night. Appearance: Persephone is almost always a gruff. Never will you see him in a respectable stature that's good enough for fellow man to see. Since the day he had been caught by the Roman slave drivers that unwillingly rushed him into this business, he has wore nothing but the same ragged, beige one-piece garb as was given to him weeks back by his captors. Time has caused it to become in-excessively grubby, and the rope that serves as a belt around his waist is starting to tear. Hopefully, he'll have found freedom before he needs a new one. It's fairly unpredictable as to how he'll persevere in a gladiatorial battle, equipment wise, because he hasn't really much choice. The "First come, first serve" routine has been devised well enough to make each fighter as blood thirsty as the other, even before the fight, so to speak, armour and chain-mail is all pretty random. Personality: In general, Persephone is summed up as fearless and intimidating. His reputation precedes anyone who steps in his path, even to the extent that no one had ever dared to engage with him during battle in Greece. In his Roman province, you'd find him to be a very different man. Persephone is always sober due to the fact that alcohol isn't an option in his beastly state, and his cravings will sometimes make him viscous, particularly in the line of battle, which is a trait that he's been reckoned for amongst the gladiatorial ranks.
DeadSeraphim
Wow, this sign up couldn't be more active if it was dead. I'll do a sign up for my character (which I wanted to do last) to show what I'm expecting, heh. ~~~ Name: Nautilus Hereditus Age: 28 Ethnicity: Roman Appearance: Nautilus is about 6 feet high and very broad shoulders, with taut muscles and tanned skin that seemed to glisen as if oiled in the light. His large, threatening build, is counterbalanced by a kind face however, with wide lips and sparkling blue eyes. His hair is a rather dull black, and he wears a sparse beard that is almost pre-adolescent in appearance. In terms of clothing, Nautilus can be seen most often in the standard slaves tunic, which is covered by a stuff leather breast plate when in the ring. He is allowed by his master one piece of jewellery, a small silver ring with a symbol etched into it. Biography & Personality: Nautilus was raised in a small farming village about a hundred miles from Rome, and lived there quite happily with his mother and father until he became 16 and was forced to leave, as was the custom in their village, with little more than a few coins, a pack and a parting gift of a tiny silver ring. Upon leaving home, howver, Nautilus found himself in a world he wasn't really prepared for, and was soon swindled out of everything he owned by shady merchants and money lenders, until he was completely dvoid of worldly possessions, except for his ring. Broke and with nowhere to go, he joined a travelling troupe as a 'strong man' of sorts, entertaining people all over the Empire for a good six years, until he felt the urge to visit his parents once more and bestow upon them gifts from foreign lands. With a little negotiating he convinced the troop to tour back toward Rome, and make a side-trip to his village at the same time, and soon they were off. All did not go well, however. Mere kilometres from his hometown the troupe was ambushed by brigands. Everything was stolen, and Nautilus and his fellow entertainers were left for dead. Nautilus was not dead, though. He was found by villagers the next day, severely beaten and unrecognizable from his years abroad, and was taken back to the village to be cleaned and sold into the slave market. Without his parents ever being informed of his presence Nautilus was sold, and spent the next four years of his life in the service of one 'Claudius Hereticus', performing basic duties and entertaining the man (comedically and sexually) until the games arrived, at which point Claudius decided that hewas to become a gladiator. Nautilus is an agreeable man, who rarely makes a fuss, but is known to become quite dangerous when provoked. He is chivalrous to women, and loves to entertain , and whether that be by risking his own life in the ring or performing feats of strength forthe crowd, he doesn't care. Weapon of Choice: Travelling with the troupe Nautilus learnt to wield many weapons outside of the sword, and has grown partial to daggers and bows. ~~~ It doesn't have to be perfect, heh, it just needs to clearly get across your character. Lord knows I'm horrible at sign ups. >.> So post, it'll be fun, trust me.
Hevn
God I suck at this but finally I found time to do it ^_^ Been struggling with offline stuff so much so apologies if things are not quite right. Correct me too ^_^x Name: Pedro de Balboa Age: 30 Ethnicity: Spanish Weapon of Choice: sword Appearance: With wavy jet black hair that hangs loose down his shoulders, black eyes and thin lips, Pedro has the typical handsome face of a Spaniard that captures the lot of women?s eyes whenever he is in battle. He has a slender but firm muscular physique hidden behind a long sleeved tunic topped with black bolero. Biography and Personality: Pedro de Balboa, a docile lover of art, was born in Spain but migrated early to Rome in hopes to be famous and known as a great court poet. The greater numbers of his poems though are violent satires attacking the loose morals of most wealthy and high class citizens of Rome. And so it was that they used power and manipulation so his name will never reach the emperor. He soon went poor and unknown, barely surviving, earning little with labors pertaining to his known line of intelligence and bearing personal grudge to those filth who made him that way. He met and befriended a lone retired professional gladiator after doing several labors for him. Their conversations are mostly of the life of the retired old man who grew quite fond of him. Now being a gladiator never crossed his meek mind but he was as good as a slave and being a gladiator and a free man at the same time, often found popularity and patronage to those who love the sport. He readied himself of the kind of life he is about to take. The old man taught him the basics of fighting. His strength soared in several practices and battles naturally as if he was born to be a gladiator. He also changed his identity a little. He now produces poems of sweet tones with graceful turns of thought, winning the hearts of lots of women in and out of the battle ring. Now he is determined to make himself known to the emperor and to Rome. Capture their hearts through his strength and prose. And put those responsible for his meagerness in their rightful places. Hmm... I see a slight female's touch to this sign-up... Dunno if that's a good or bad thing though...
Doukeshi
I wonder why noone has signed up to this much...it seems like an interesting idea if you get it running ^_^. Name: Zhihar Age: 32 Ethnicity: Sarmatian (yes I've just seen 'King Arthur') Appearance: Bio & Personality: Zhihar is a Sarmatian slave, cpatured during the Roman campaign in his native homeland of Sarmatia. Part of his nations proud army who defended themselves against the invaders Zhihar was doomed to failure. Unlike many of his kinsmen, however, he was not slain upon the battlefield. Zhihar was taken, along with several others, as a prisoner of war, returned to Rome, to become a Gladiator. Impressed with their ferocity, the Roman officers knew that owning such formidable warriors could have great effect not only on their purses, but on their social standing also. It was therefore deemed that he and his fellows would be trained in the way of the Gladiator, to fight and die in the arena. This was 5 years ago, and Zhihar has survived many battles and gained many scars. Though not the most entertaining of fighters, he chooses efficiency over flambouancy, Zhihar has nevertheless gained a dedicaed following of fans. Zhihar still yearns for his homeland, though he knows that most of it is now under the Roman occupation. He has no respect for Rome and unlike other gladiators he refuses to engage in the leisure lifestyle allowed to succesful gladiators. Detatched, yet approachable, his rage is not to his fellows but to his captures and he wastes no opportunity in letting those "foul Roman dogs", know that this is such.
