Brasil
I recently returned home from an Acme/Georgetti's run, as I was out getting some nice dinner-type items for when I make Melissa dinner later tonight. While I'm sitting in my kitchen, eating a Krispy Kreme donut with Jimmies (those things pwn your mom, too), just channel-surfing after putting the lasagna in. I'm flipping back between Comedy Central and VH1, nothing terribly interesting, as it's a lazy Saturday afternoon, so I start surfing right down the listings. I stop on American Movie Classics, because I see a giant ape face staring into the windows of an elevated train. In a movement paying homage to Desbreko, perhaps, I go, "Bwhee!!!" My mom turns and looks at me. I indicate what movie is on right now, and she nods her head in the reassuring "Oh, I see" motion. Now, why would she do that after seeing what movie I was going "Bwhee" to, you might ask? The answer is simple. King Kong (1933) pwnz u and ur mom. I had originally seen it on a network broadcast when I was about six years old, and instantly fell in love with it. The wonder, the intrigue...the magic of movie monster cinema at its finest. King Kong was a technical achievement--some call it the pinnacle of matting for its time, and I'm inclined to agree. But even in light of its technical merits, Kong was a movie that is just good filmmaking. I don't know of anyone who doesn't crack a smirk or laugh at the banter and wit of the lead characters. It's almost a snappy one-liner every line when we're watching Denham or Driscoll. Two of my favorites lines are Denham's "Now you know why I brought along those gas bombs," and Driscoll's reply to "Are you on deck," "YESSIR." The characters are fun and strong, the acting is exactly what it needs to be, and the action and stop-motion is something to behold. King Kong definitely pwnz u and ur mom, lol.
