As most of you know, when it comes to creativity, I'm more into words than pictures. Anyway, around the end of last term I got bored and stressed; exams, you know. And writing just seemed like too much hassle at that time, especially because it took so long. So I pulled out a sketchbook I had lying around -- I've always collected art stuff, but for a long time I've considered myself artistically retarded. -- and started doodling. Just cartoonish faces and such. One night I was reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and came across the Umbridge detention scenes [I think that's ambiguous enough not to need a spoiler]. And so I decided to sketch it...sort of.

To put it bluntly, it's just a hand, with some parchment [which I don't think is very good] around it. But, yeah, anyway. I haven't drawn in years; the last thing I can remember drawing was a picture for my godmother in year..2, I think it was. *scratches her head* So this is the hand I drew..I'm not sure if it's very good or not, because like I said, I'm more into writing than art, so I never paid much attention. Coloured [badly] in pencil, but it faded in the scan, so all you can see are the dark bits. Hmm. I think that's all.

Some comment would be much appreciated. ^_^

EDIT -- Cropped it a bit.

That hand is absolutely exquisite. I actually placed my own hand to match the stance of the hand in your drawing, just to have a natural preference, and found that you've really done well in capturing what it looks like. Marvellous ^_^

As for the parchment, I can't give a constructive opinion there. For someone who can't draw (like me), those things can be a hassle to get right. The fact that you've not drawn it from a side angle (and showing how the paper is curled) felt strange at first, hehe.

But I will say that it looks good, with that tea-stained color and somewhat soft edge where it's rolled up.

I really, really like this drawing. It has a wonderful feel to it and more than anything, it conveys the spirit of a writer ^_^ (forgive the cheesy moment)

Like Mimmi said, I think you've captured the hand pretty well. I know that I for one suck at drawing hands, so there's not a lot of advice I can give about that. It does look good, though, and the best I can say is to keep drawing them, heh.

I don't know if you know how to shade or not, but I think that it would help give this a little bit of a realistic element. Maybe. The colors help with the fantasy aspect of it, though. I'm definitely sensing magic, but that might also be because I'm a Harry Potter freak. >_>;;

Anyway, I likes it a lot. ^_^

*laughs* I don't know how to shade, actually. Like I said, I've never really done anything artistic before -- except for when I was young, and that wasn't anything technical.

And um...*cough* Mimmithetea-stainedpartwaswherethelightcameinfromthescannernotbeingabletocloseproperly. *blush* :p
