The Masked Murderer (Perhaps a few suggestions?)

This won't kick off for a few weeks, however I want to make it a big RPG, so does anyone think this is a good idea or have any suggestions?

The basic story is this:

Over the past 3 years, a Murderer has been going around randomly killing people. He or she is said to have extensive knowledge of numbers of fighting styles, and is said to be very acrobatic and too smart to be caught. The Murderer always leaves the letters "MM" on a wall or the ground in red blood or ink, which stands for Masked Murderer. Police once caught the Murderer on CCTV, and discovered they really were Masked. But whenever the Masked Murderer was caught on camera again, he/she always wore a different mask.

It was later discovered many people had been posing as the Masked Murderer, and there were many Murderers around, all with different Masks. Though it is known, only one person was the original Masked Murderer. But as time goes on, how many people will die by the hands of the Masked Murderers? How far can the sick mind of one human spread and make others Masked Murderers? The chase is on.

--

Basically, you can either be in this RPG:
1. A Masked Murderer (Only one will be the original one, I'll explain below)
2. A Police man/women
3. A detective
4. A normal person joining the search

In this RPG, the Masked Murderers must plan their kills, and the other can do as they please, but they CANNOT catch/kill a Masked Murderer until I've PMed them. Ever so often, a Masked Murderer will be caught/killed. This is how it works:

Each Masked Murderer will post a kill they do, or more than one. I will judge the best kills and the most carefully planned out. The person who has the poorest kill will be PMed and be told that they will be either caught/killed. Now, everyone else will post about how they are investigating the case, if they saw anything, and what they believe. The person from the other groups with the best post will be PMed, and they can either kill (for a reason which I'll give) or arrest the Murderer (which can be an epic battle or a long chase). The overall best poster will win the title of the original Masked Murderer, and will be the only survivor of the RPG. I will be a Masked Murderer, but I will vote fairly and take myself out if I must.

More work is being done, and I may start this in Sept. 1st. But first, do you think this will work? Have any suggestions? Interested? I love to here it.

I just watched Red Dragon (again...) so I'm a little in to this murder case thingies. I just have a nack in intelligent problem solving cases really so I sort of like this.

I see that the only interesting character to play here is the Masked Murderer. All the others doesn't have too much role to play and could just be NPCs. I think you should also give more emphasis to the the detectives if you plan to catch the MM.

I find the idea of challenging members in a certain writing skill very good. But how many MMs are you planning to take? It could be tiring to write murder scenes until everyone is out. The whole process is like signing-up in a RPG where you have to impress the creator to make it in only this time, it's RPG style.

So yeah, those are my few cents. Don't let it discourage you ^_^x

Ah yes, the MM part. I thought that might be a bit of a problem, a lot of people would want to play them... but I decided to let the Normal People have the choice and being involved with an MM, only they can be killed at their own will, or be a double crosser and things like that. Though I'm not sure about the Police/detectives.

But I did come up with this:

Whenever an MM is going out of the story, it will end a chapter. At the end of the chapter it's the only time when the most epic part of the characters involved with that MM (like a certain detective of normal character) can take place. Like... one of the police being kidnapped and the MM threatening to throw them off a building. It will make things a lot more interesting for the other type of characters. And I think it might be an idea to let the other type of characters get involved with more things than the MM's...

I decided I'll just stand by and post updates and just be a normal person watching or something (and not get invovled in any storylines). Though the whole RPG will need A LOT of discussing all the way through.

I agree with you on giving more emphasis to the detectives, I think I should do that.

Oh... and I highly recommend you to give more emphasis to the detectives. Make it like the detectives vs. the Masked Murders. I think intelligent mind games could make it interesting... though it could be difficult. ^_^x

I think it will work. Many murder misteries start of with random murders. I like it but you should add more character descriptions to the Mask Murderer. Also you may want to add a antagonist to the mask murderer, lke a detective that will not stop at nothing to catch them.

I'm with `hEvn, heh. Make the detectives feel like they're necessary. Also, a few things.

Whilst this sounds incredibly blood thirsty (good thing, I assure you) it could become a complete mess if either:

a) A few Masked Murderers post in a row and
b) There is no planning.

I think a way to get around all of that would be to, instead of letting players choose when they're gonna screw someone up, have a 'header' type thing at the start of each chapter, saying who's killing who, and who's embroiled in that particular chapter and whatnot. It would still allow creative freedom, but it would keep things sane at the same time, heh.

For it to work even better you'd have to have the detectives/normal people/coppers and the MMs with some heavy PM correspondance so that the MM's carefully laid plans don't go down the shitter because someone thought they were reading between the lines right. But that might defeat the purpose of the RP for you.

Just my two cents.
