Here's what happened: My brother left the window in the front room open, and the house is infested with flies. I'm the only one home, so It's up to me to rid the house of the flies. I've got a fourth of a can of Rid-a-bug, a full can of Glade, and two latex gloves. I need some pointers. Anyone going to help? (this isn't a joke either)

Sorry to hear about the predicament. What I can say for certain is that Glade won't be helping you much. I would highly suggest - unless you want to take a fly swatter and run around your house all day - just going out and getting a full can of Rid-a-bug, or whatever it is you have. Or two. Spray your entire house, open a window where you might have a screen on it, and then you and your brother should take an extended walk in the park while the bug-kiiller works its magic. :)

EDIT: *hangs head in shame* You're right Solo... it would be just spreading harmful chemicals.... *stifles cry* I'm SORRY... so very sorry....

My bedroom was once filled with a swarm of bees which had just come out of hibernation. But I didn't kill them, heh. Bees are lovely creatures and an endangered species in the UK. We got a large cup and a piece of card and shovelled them out of the windows, then blocked up the gaps that they crawled through.

Cans of fly-killer aren't that effective unless you're in a small space and you point it directly at the insect in question. Otherwise you're just spraying harmful chemical everywhere.

We have an electric fly-swatting device at home- kind of like a tennis racket with electric strings. You hold down both buttons on the shaft and it turns on. Twack it around a bit and if you hit the fly you've stunned it. Hold it to the fly and you have a barbeque, heh. They're very useful

Otherwise, you can try and shut the door and all but one windows in each room, draw as many curtains as possible, leaving only one shaft of light near the open window. Since flies are drawn towards light, they should hopefully fly towards it and outside. Or, just try and draw them near one window and hit them from there.

Ouch. that sucks.

I suck at getting rid of pests (which explains why my sister is still alive)
so the only suggestion i can come up with is the following:

Log on to ebay.com and sell your rid-a-bug, gloves, and glade.

Take your money, and go to the nearest gas-station.

Buy a 2 gallon can of the cheapest gas you can find. (if you can't afford the gas with the small amount of money you just got from selling those 3 items on ebay, any flammable chemical will work too)

Buy a can of hairspray. (aerosol).

Scatter the gasoline/chemical all over your house, be carefull not to waste any.

Get all of your pets out of the house.

Go to your stove.

Place the can of hairspray inside it.

Turn it on 300 degrees (note: an electric stove will give you more time to escape your house alive)

Close the oven.

Run.

When your house explodes, go to your neighbor's house (providing you're still alive) and (prefferably choose the house with more embarrassing pets than yours {if you have any pets in the first place}) place your pets inside their property.

Run.

-----------------
There you go! Your house is now rid of any bugs (and most likely everything else).

You could always get a bunch of those sticky papers to catch flies, that's what we use in the stables.

Or you could get yourself a bug zapper. Then after you get the bug zapper you get yourself a 24 pack of beer and sit back and watch the fun. It's actually quite enjoyble even if you're not a redneck.

Better yet, get a bunch of spiders to begin spinning webs in your house. The flies will inevitably become stuck in the webs. Of course, then you'll have an ungodly amount of spider webs and dead fly carcasses, but on teh bright side your famiily won't have to decorate much for Halloween
