Transtic Nerve
I'm curious to see what some of you think of some new movies coming out in the next 3 months. Heres a list and links to the trailers. Some of these I've been waiting for a long time, others I'm absolutely dying to see. Ocean's 12 - Well the full cast from Ocean's 11 is back and with one more person. If it's anything like the original, which I'm sure it will be, it will be great. Release Date: December 10, 2004 Cellular - This movie kinda looks like Panic Room in some weird sort of way. I'm interested in seeing it, but I can't say it'll be a great movie. Release Date: September 10, 2004 Resident Evil: Apapcalypse - This is a movie I've been waiting for since... well Christmas of last year when i first saw the teaser trailer. By the look of the actual trailer, this movie looks like it will be so much better than the first. The action sequences look coreographed better as well as the special effects. Release Date: Spetember 10, 2004 Mean Creek - This is somewhat of an indepedant film. It has been int he Sundance film festival. This looks like a really in depth film. I'm into thrillers and horror films and this seems to be a good example of thriller. Release Date: August 20, 2004 The Grudge - This is yet another remake of a Japanese horror film made by the same people who made the Ring (does the girl look familiar?) Anyway, it looks like a GREAT film. I haven't seen the original but I am *cough*downloading it*cough* now... Ju-On the Japanese version has already been released as of July 23. Release Date for The Grudge is October 22, 2004. Team America: World Police - Fromt he creators of South Park, you know this movie will most certainly be funny... very funny. Its done with puppets and animation and uses the voices or imitated voices of many people. It looks really funny, but somehow I doubt alot of people will see it. Release Date: October, 2004 Suspect Zero - A great thriller about a serial killer who kills other serial killers. It goes indepth about a special mind abaility people use to find other serial killers and some other stuff. Not quite, sure, see the trailer yourself to maybe understand it better. Looks really great and really in depth. Release Date: August 27, 2004. Saw - A horror film which starts out making you think it's another Chainsaw Massacre, but it turns out to be something totally different, totall in depth, and totally worth seeing for sure. Release Date: Fall 2004 Open Water - People may say this looks boring but there's so much they can do witht he plot that it seems like it'll be a great movie to me. Release Date: August 20, 2004 Shark Tale - This just looks really funny. Like a Findign Nemo or Shrek kinda movie which were both really great so I have high hopes for this one. From the trailer it looks to be up there with those two films. Release Date: October 1, 2004 National Treasure - The premise behind this movie is probably one of the most original I've heard of. It looks really good. Hpefully it lives up to its originality. Release Date: November 19, 2004 Saints and Soldiers - This is a new war film in the time of WWII and it looks a bit different than your typical war film, but it has many similarities. I love war films so I'm all about this one, as will several others here I'm sure. Release Date: Unknown Meet the Fockers - I know lots of people who have been waiting for this... since... well since forever. You won't be dissapoitned I'm sure. Release Date: December 22, 2004 Touch of Pink - This is a british film about two gay guys. I dunno if it was released there or not but it looks really funny. My kind of humour. It'll be a gay classic lol Release Date: Already out. Blade Trinity - Another movie I've been waiting for. this one looks so much better too. I thougt Blade II was better than the first and it looks like this one will surpass that as well. Release Date: December, 2004. The Forgotten - Another unique movie for the fall. About a woman who seemingly doesn't have what she did before and she must figure out how to get it back... Great premise and it looks like it'll be a really great film. Release Date: September 24, 2004. Thats it, there's a few other ones like Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow that I didn't mention because I really don't have any plans to see them or they just didn't appeal to me that much. Tell me what you think or add your own movie(s) you're dying to see and can't wait any longer for.
Semjaza
I think at this point, the only two movies I care to see are Hero and Saw. Hero already has a thread here, so I'm sure people are familiar with it. Saw looks like a pretty disturbing horror/slasher movie, which really aren't all that good anymore. I'm hoping this one is. wrist cutter
Alien vs. Predator. This movie is going to rock so hard, assuming they don't try to bog it down with plot or character development. Meet the Fockers... I dunno. I have Meet the Parents on DVD and it's a great movie, but a sequel... eeeh. It seems like I've seen a preview for National Treasure. What's this one supposed to be about?
Semjaza
It seems like I've seen a preview for National Treasure. What's this one supposed to be about?
Basically this guy (Nicholas Cage) is in a line of people who protect a treasure found by the forefathers of the United States. He spends time trying to find this treasure, and it turns out the map to it is on the back of the Declaration of Independence. So he tries to get it to no avail... so he winds up trying to steal it instead. The bad guys find out and are on his tail. Personally, I think it looks kind of lame lol. BlueYoshi
Ocean's 12[/url'] - Well the full cast from Ocean's 11 is back and with one more person. Release Date: December 10, 2004.
I heard that the twelfth person is Julia Roberts' character from Ocean's Eleven, I dunno though. Usually, sequels to remakes have a rather poor reputation, so I'm not going to expect much from this one, though OE was a fun movie to watch. I forgot the name but another movie that's yet to come out that I've been hearing nothing but good comments from is a film about a husband and wife who are both contracts killers that have been assigned by their employers to clean each other. I suppose the only humour that will derive from it will be the fact that they are both totally unaware of one another's profession. Should be good in its own way.
Kei
I'm looking forward to seeing The Incredibles whenever it comes out (around Thanksgiving? Correct me if I'm wrong.) Since it's a Disney/Pixar movie (and somewhat of Disney's last real hope for this year) I'm thinking it should be pretty good. From the trailer I saw, I won't be disappointed. Another movie I'm wanting to see is Shaun of the Dead, simply because it looks like the stupid-funny movies I tend to like a lot. They didn't say when it was going to be released here in the US (I don't think. Hell, it might be out already in some of the smaller theatres.), but it's already out in the UK. Apparently, this average Joe Schmoe Briton has to stop this massive horde of zombie (which have been created from the day-to-day grind) somehow with his idiot friend. Again, the trailer looks promising. The Polar Express seems like it may have a chance when it comes out around Christmas, but more than likely will be a swing and a miss picture, even with Tom Hanks playing a role. Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events (starring none other than Jim Carrey) looks somewhat promising, if only for Jim Carrey. That's probably the only reason I'm making plans to try and see it some Christmas. I've never actually read the books, so I'll be more than a little lost, but like I said, I'm only going for Carrey, so I probably won't care either way, lol. There are a few more, but I can't remember them off the top of my head, but the ones I mentioned look really good.
Brasil
Alien vs. Predator. This movie is going to rock so hard, assuming they don't try to bog it down with plot or character development.
Considering the premise is illegitimate to begin with, lol, I doubt we'll see much plot or character development at all, heh. I might go see AvP, if only to sit there and goof off for two hours. You know, switch myself off and drift away. However, given what I've read of AvP, and the unbelievable plot-hole to begin with (
apparently, it takes place between Predator 2 and Alien, chronologically, and are we to believe that this is the first human encounter with both species
?), and really, it doesn't gel with the Alien saga, if purely from an encounter standpoint.
According to AvP, humans know about Aliens some centuries before the original Alien film ever takes place. Since there is a long-standing theory about Predators "planting" the Aliens on LV-426, surely someone would explore that planet long before Alien, seeing as how Charles Weyland, a co-founder of the Weyland-Yutani Foundation, is a major player in AvP, and is going to have some up-close and personal experience with both species. Are we to assume that during AvP, no information at all is revealed regarding the Aliens' homeworld?
It just doesn't make sense, lol.
Meet the Fockers... I dunno. I have Meet the Parents on DVD and it's a great movie, but a sequel... eeeh.
I wasn't terribly fond of Meet The Parents the first time I saw it, but it grows on you after repeated viewings. I like the idea of Meet The Fockers, however, and I'm certainly interested in seeing it, just to see how DeNiro and Blythe Danner bounce off of Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand. Honestly, Shaun of the Dead isn't really what it's made out to be. The comedy involved within is terrible; it mainly consists of the odd one-liner that is usually followed by stupid actions. By how the film makes you feel about that, you actually think they're being serious with it. I wouldn't go so far as to call it a real horror, even though that is the setting, but overall the spoofs are far from unmatched and are usually just unfunny. You're better off with the tragic Scary Movie films, at least there is some incentive there for you to call it a stupid film. Inglorious Bastards, though probably still filming, should be one to look out for. There are three different categories that war films can fall into: 1) Realistic, eventful, deep. 2) Inaccurate, unexplained, gibberish 3) Stupid, spoofs, comedy. There are films that fall into each, and I have no idea which route IG will take, but what strikes me most about it more than anything is the director, none other than Quentin Tarantino. You should know that his films aren't ordinary, and I suspect IG will be no different. I'm willingly going to reject my dislike for war films (I generally find them boring as hell) just for the sake of this film regardless of its 'category', and me knowing that QT has delivered in the past just ups its morale Frankly, I wouldn't care so much if IG was inaccurate because I know that wouldn't be the motive for it, judging by most Tarantino films. All I really want to see is some quality directing and acting, nothing more and nothing less... I'll leave the formalities to the likes of Apocalypse Now.
terra
Of the ones originally mentioned, I definitely want to see Ocean's Twelve and, uh, that's about it. I don't even think Ocean's Twelve will be all that good, though, what with the sequel-ness and need to live up to the coolness of the first one, but I'm sure I'll see it anyway because the first one was just so cool. Plus, George Clooney and Brad Pitt, of course. Though I can't believe they're the same age ... George Clooney just looks so much older. I also have interest in seeing Open Water, because people keep saying so many good things about it. There are also all those things about how they made it with practically no money and the actors really are in open water with sharks and part of them really is scared to death. Apparently professional shark trainers were around ... to throw bloody fish at the sharks to keep them interested but not hungry. Or something like that. Anything that the actors attacked with such dedication deserves to be watched. I don't particularly want to see AvP but I'm sure I'll have to because my boyfriend is really excited for it to come out. Plus, this past weekend I made him go see Little Black Book (which was exactly as bad as I expected, but apparently worse than he expected) so he'll be wanting payback. Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow kind of intrigues me, if for nothing else because the commercials explain basically nothing. But it really looks like crap. apple.com/trailer has a clip from it and in my opinion it's absolutely horrible, and if that's what they released in order to promote the film I definitely have no interest in going to see it. Guest ScirosDarkblade
Short term, I'm looking forward to AvP. I basically want the Predators to kick *** all over the place non-stop. That's all. If a Predator totally tears an alien in half and avoids the acid, that'll be cool. And those extra-long arm blades are cool too. Predator coolness--the only reason to see AvP. But it's a good reason. Just like Tom Cruise coolness was a good reason to see Collateral. ...And the only reason, really, looking back at it. Go Predator! Kapnronh
I'm looking forward to Return of the Living Dead 4: Necropolis . I know it'll be a quite a while before it's finished but, I still can't stop thinking about another Living Dead movie. I loved the previous ones and I hope they don't screw this one up. James
Regarding Ju-On and The Grudge...The Grudge isn't a remake of Ju-On to my knowledge. The Grudge is just the western name for Ju-On. This movie has been available for a long time in Australia (I've seen it a couple of times). It's alright. Nowhere near as good as Ring. And in many respects, it tries to mimmick Ring...but fails. lol So, I was somewhat disappointed with it. The story is also very spotty. But it's still worth watching if you like Japanese horror. I don't really know what I'm looking forward to. Right now, I'm mostly looking forward to Kill Bill: Volume 2 on DVD (so, a non-cinema release). Meet the Fockers looks like it'll be a fun night out and I still haven't seen I, Robot, which looks like a pretty standard action movie (but hey, I don't mind going just for the fun of it ~_^). Other than that, I'm not sure. I haven't seen much for 2004 that really sticks out for me. Most of the stuff I have an interest in is beyond 2004 (ie: The Ring 2 and various other sequels). I'm still looking forward to watching Hero in cinemas though.
Hevn
I didn't like Ju-On that much. Hell, I didn't like a lot of Japanses horror flicks that flooded Asia after the success of Ring. But "The Eye" is an exception and I am looking forward to seeing the sequel of that. I've seen the preview once but I don't know if it has been released and I missed it. From TN's list, i'm really anticipating for Ocean's 12 since the first one is just genius. Touch of Pink seems really fun but I don't know if it's going to be released here. And yes, I don't trust the quality of a lot of sequels that much but I still want to judge them myself if they make it in my exception list. ^_^x
natetron46
I dont know, not much is coming out soon that Im interested in. Except for star wars. I WILL be seeing that, it looks really good. This is going to be the best of the modern movies, and i think one of the best out of all of them. I am truely exceited to see this. I also have some interest in Batman Begins. It looks good, although Im not saying much, it looks to be the best Batman movie ever. This has a slew of good actors in it, but then again, that didnt save the other ones.... terra
I just realized you had the trailers linked in your original post, TN, so I went to the one for Ocean's Twelve. I really hate it when trailers show no new footage whatsoever. The Meet the Fockers one, which I saw in theaters, yes made us laugh because there were all the memorable clips from the old one, but there were only thirty seconds or so of new footage. It just seems so cheap to me. The Ocean's Twelve trailer takes that to the next level without a single clip of anything, only their animation. Which, granted, is still cool, especially because it uses the supercool music from the first one that makes me remember the supercool moves there, but still! Grr, sorry, rant-y. That just makes me so mad :p.
natetron46
Completely understood, I am the same way. It feels like a waste of time if I go into a theatre and I see a "preview" that is nothing but things Ive already seen, what is it previewing? Nothing.

The first two were awesome, and I see no reason to expect number three to be any less awesome. Ocean's Twelve should also be cool (although it certainly won't top the S.W.A.T. thing at the end of ocean's Eleven), and Shark Tale loks to be quite funny.
