Many people have played one if not many of the metal gear solid series/titles. I made this forum to talk about the things that happen in the game. Like who is the wolf that otacon talks about in metal gear solid 2 sons of liberty.
Do they find the patriots?
I am going to make the first question by saying.

Who is wolf that otacon talks of???

Well, I have no idea about what you're asking, but I thought I'd use this thread to talk about the MGS game that was released for the GBC.

I must have played it a few years ago because I can't remember a thing about it regarding the storyline (does it have anything to do with the ongoing one?), but other than that I felt that I enjoyed it to some extent. It's amazingly difficult for a GBC game, not in terms of depth and controls, but gameplay and a few other aspects that are to do with the surroundings, like the cardboard box maze for example.

Nobody likes backtracking, and this game was no different because in that specific part you had to have the different types of cardboard boxes before you could get past the maze... and then there's the risk of dying heh.

Come to think about it, the game plays very much like Rogue Spear on the GBA, with the exceptions of a few extra weapons, but overall it's slightly numb.

Have you played it?

I'm assuming you have never played Metal Gear Solid 1 or Twin Snakes, paco3?

The wolf Otakon was referring to was most likely Sniper Wolf, one of the members of Foxhound that took over Shadow Moses Island. Otakon developed a sort of infatuation with her while he was imprisoned.

As for your question about
your question about the Patriots, your wording makes answering it a bit difficult, but I'll try.

Metal Gear Solid 2 left everyone at quite a cliffhanger. Otakon discovered that the Patriots, who are supposed to be the real brains behind America, had been dead for 100 years. I suppose that Metal Gear: Acid may resolve some things, but I'm betting that Metal Gear Solid 3 will hold most of the answers. If MGS3 is going to be the last Metal Gear Solid game (I believe that has been confirmed. There will be more Metal Gear games, but none with "Solid" at the end, until they put out more remakes), it is probably going to close the whole Patriot story. The next Metal Gear after that will most likely start up an entirely new arc.
Heh, got a bit rambly there..

And I've never really wanted to play Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel (The GBC one), but I do remember hearing somewhere that the story somewhat parallels MGS1.

I don't think that Substance's storyline differs much from the original SoL. You get to play the Snake Tales, which I think lets you get more into Snake's happenings on the Plant, but other than that I think the game's outcome is the same.

As for Substance in whole, it's only good for the VR missions I think, so if you've already played and beat the original, then buying this would be a waste of money. And from what I know, the Snake Tales are kind of short and not really very interesting.

I don't recall that ever being answered. Many, many things were left open and unresolved in Metal Gear Solid 2, possibly so they could be answered in a figure game. I'm guessing Acid may explain
Helga's baby,
considering it doesn't have much to do with
the Patriots, and Helga wasn't even alive during Metal Gear Solid 3's timeframe. But who knows? Raiden didn't exactly receive a warm welcome from the fans, and he was very important to the whole Helga's kid thing. It may never be solved.
Unless there was something in Snake Tales that I missed (It bored me five minutes in), Substance added absolutely nothing to the Sons of Liberty storyline. The VR Missions were cool, and the Skateboarding minigame was pretty fun for a while, but if you have played Sons of Liberty there's no real reason to get Substance. I rented it just after I got a Playstation 2, and I had never played any form of MGS2 before, so I got my money's worth. It's not worth buying or renting unless you want to do some VR Missions or you've never played Sons of Liberty.

I suppose there are some diehard Metal Gear fans out there who will buy anything Kojima puts out, though..

It's not for sure yet, but I doubt that Acid will have anything to do with the current MGS storyline. There are a few tell tale signs in the screen shots that could probably prove it, and I don't know if they mean anything, but that's how they seem. Like the soldier who is wearing the same uniform and gear as the Russian mercenaries do in SoL, and Snake is in his TT sneak suit.

Acid is of a different genre too, so judging by that I'd say that it's most likely to be a filler of some sort for the PSP, but you never know.

Me me me! I have MGS1 for PSX and MGS2 for PS2. I'm too poor to get 3 yet. I have played the demo though. I love all MGS that I've put my hands on. I want to get Metal Gear Acid for the PSP too. That's supposed to be really weird and card based.
Snake is so awesome...

I've played and enjoyed both Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2. I don't really understand the hate that MGS2 gets, really. I guess it's the same kind of hate that something like FFVIII gets - it was really experimental, and a lot of people felt that the experimentation didn't pay off. I guess I could see that, though I liked a lot of what MGS2 presented. There were really annoying bits scattered with the good stuff, though, I have to admit.

I'd love to be able to play MGS3. I'm hoping that there will be an XBox port eventually, because I'm a bit lacking in money to be able to buy a PS2 and MGS3. Just about everything I've heard about the game is very positive, and I'm sure that I'd love the experience.

I think I'm about 2/3 of the way through MGS3 and seriously it blows the other two out of the water storywise and for the feel of the game. I'm not going to give anything away but its just amazingly great. Kojima is my videogame hero of all time for blessing me with such a great game. Camo is just the tip of the iceberg.

Is this just a MGS thread or can we discuss the original Metal Gear titles as well? I'm not referring to the dumbed-down NES versions, but rather the original titles. I don't know how many people here have played them, so I don't know if there's even much to discuss here lol.

I played the first metal gear a few weeks ago (for the first time in a couple of years) and really like it. Its truly a lot like the first MGS where you run behind guards and pop in and out of the levels to reset the guards when you mess up.

It was really clever for its time, having parts where you get yourself captured, and where they put the tranciever/bomb in your equipment when you recover it. rescuing hostages, all sorts of fun stuff. Even though the second one was kind of ******, they still had cool developments like the spotlights and truth serum to get information out of officers you interrogate.

My biggest problem was the pit traps in Metal Gear. The one spot near the end with a dark room full of nearly unavoidable pits is one of the cruelest things in a NES game.

Yeah, I took the "Solid" out of the title so that the thread could include all of the Metal Gear games. On the off chance that someone would actually want to talk about the older games, heh.

The Metal Gear Solid series and I was wondering if it was anyone elses favorite game series. So far I've played MGS1 for the PS1, the remake of it for the Gamecube, MGS3 and MGS3 Subsistance for the PS2 and I was wondering two more things

First, I was wondreing if anyone could tell me where I could get MGS2.

Second, I don't have PS2 online so I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the MGS3 Subsistance online gameplay is like.

1.You can find MGS2 SOL at gamestop for like $8. Substance will cost you a lttle extra.

2.As for MGS3 think classic MG gameplay but instead of fighting CPU you fight actual people. Its a lot of fun, especially b/c of the insane amount of modes. It controls and feels like the campaingn mode.

I hated the online play in Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence. Don't even bother with it. People either exploit the system or use cheats to the point where it's not even fun. Additionally, the Metal Gear Solid gameplay feels awkward in all but one mode. The total package is more than worth it but I wouldn't rush out and buy a network adaptor for it.

Your right about the hacking/modding its really gotten annoying. The game hasnt even been out that long and already people are cheating. I wouldnt buy a network adapter for it either I assume he had the built in one. so it wouldnt really cost him anything. Anyway if you can find a fair game it can be alot of fun. I prefer Socom 2 thoguh.
Dont even bother playing MGS2:SOL it was by far the suckiest Metal gear Solid game.
And I think that it's a very good game and I enjoyed it a lot.

MGS2 is one of those games that polarizes people, so I don't think that you'll be swayed either way by people. If you can find it for only $8, then I think it's worth it to pick it up and try it out for yourself. MGS2: Substance is well worth picking up if you end up liking MGS2; I got my copy for only $20 (I have the XBox edition, but I don't see the PS2 version being any more expensive if it's available, especially since the PS2-era is winding down).

Allright I know where most of the hate comes from and that is from Raiden.
Not being Snake completely turned everyone off. Snake was the pinnacle of coolness and then they give you pretty boy Raiden. Whats even worse its they lead you to belive your Snake and after the 2nd hour screw you over
.I also hated the story it was so confusing.MGS2 did however have amazing grphics and some good stealth mechanics. And the FPS mode saved lives. Snake Eater more than made me happy it was way better than MGS2. Still MGS2 was not a bad game since it introduced most of the mechanics found in the latter instalments. So MGS2 was very important.
