I always wanted to try this out atleast once. Just to see how many people here know what real music heroes are lol.
I wanted to make a top 10 of Music Heroes that you people sign up. You people choose 3 bands/artists and at the end, I'll count who has been chosen most and put them in a list of ten. Easy as that.
There are but few rules.
You must enter 3 bands/artists a person. Not more, not less

You should tell what was the reason why you chose the artists

it can be Artists from all time

Entries untill 30 september
So well, I'll start off then.

My top 3
-Queen
Not much to say. Their music speaks for itself. Splendid Rock. Great music, great lyrics. And they have a remaining number 1 spot in our (the Dutch) top 2000. And in that same top 2000 are like 10 more of their songs.
[strike]-Rolling Stones
They are like the most famous (rock) band in the history of music. Although I dont like every song of theirs. They have songs that I really like (like 'sympathy for the devil').[/strike]
-Paul Simon (& Art Garfunkel)
I changed my mind lol. I really don't think the Rolling Stones are as good as Simon & Garfunkel. Paul Simon is a great song writer, and together they scored hit after hit. Like 'Bridge over troubled water', 'Sound of Silence', 'The Boxer', 'Mrs. Robbinson' bla bla bla. Dozens lol. And I just really like their music ^_^;;
-Manfred Mann
I think most of you wont even know who they are do you? Well, this would be one of my favourite bands ever. This is my third classic rock band in my list lol, but well, this band deserves to be in it. Songs like 'Davy's on the road again', 'the mighty quinn' and 'Martha's Madman' really steadied their place in my personal top 10.

Well, this is hard to pick. I don't know if my favorite bands themselves were as radically important as other bands... so I'm just going to stick with what I consider the most important ones.

My top 3
-David Bowie
In my mind, Bowie isn't just a "hero" of music, is the undisputed god of rock. No other artist compares. To me, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust is the best album in existance, not only because it's just a great record, but because of the ideals and spirt it embodies. Plus the whole image that went along with it, which was really just completely opposite of every other band at the time.

Many other records to follow were possibly more impressive from a production and talent standpoint, but that's still my favorite. I don't think any other artist can compare to Bowie's output in the 70s and early to mid 80s. The guy still does good material even now.

I'd also like to mention that I'm also including his back-up members along with his name, such as the amazing Mick Ronson. Ronson is not a name most people seem to know now, but he's highly respected for very deserving reasons. He did a lot of string orchestration and guitar work with Bowie in his heyday.

-The Doors

Jim Morrison is/was a huge pop culture icon for a reason. In many ways, you could call them the first punk band, not in sound, but in ideal. That's really what seperated them from nearly every other band of the 60s.

-Pixies

The Pixies were one of those bands that were "Alternative" when alternative wasn't even a known genre. They've influenced more groups than is probably readily apparent, including more popular acts (in sales anyway) like Nirvana, The Toadies, etc.

They broke up a long time ago, but recently reformed for a reunion tour. I have my tickets for November and I'm very excited heh.

While I like Queen and respect Mercury, I don't know why they're that highly praised at this point. For every amazing they have, there's another dozen of theirs I can't stand listening to.

Frank Zappa
Frank Zappa was one of those guys who just didn't fit into the social norm. I think he cranked out about 70-something records in his life, and all of them were unique unto themselves. His music is relatively unknown though, but was incredibly influential nonetheless.

The Doors
Come on. They're The Doors. What more must I say?

The Sex Pistols
These guys were... punk. Like, refined to the point of insanity. They influenced so many other bands at the time, and influence just as many bands these days, and emulated what punk was with such clarity it was hard to deny them.
So the three bands we pick are not necessarily our favorites, but like, the most influential? I'm kind of confused as to which type you're looking for. I'll edit this post with my list when I figure out which it is you're looking for.
It just comes down on whoever you think is a music hero lol. Your most favourite, but it still has to make sense in the way of how famous he/she is/was. (Like some one-day fly who nobody remembers the name off when they hear his/her song on the radio, that would make no sense.)
Did that came out as simple as I think, or do I only think its simple?..

That is correct...it is me...Shinobi!!! :O lol.

The Stone Roses
Not many people know this band but they are my all time fave band. They were a mix of British Indie-Dance-Rock. The front man Ian Brown is, in my opinion, one of the best British Indie band frontmen...ever! Think of Liam Gallagher from Oasis...only 10 times funnier, witty and not so much of a prick! Gallagher wouldn't be around if it wasn't for Brown. John Squire (guitarist) is simply a genius guitarist and song writer with his riffs and licks to beat any other. Reni (drummer) was phenominally funky and was known for his amazing drumming skills, many trademarks such as the snare shots and hi-hats inbetween a complicated drum fill. Mani (bassist) was known for his funky and complex bass lines, along with his comical stage work. All in all, The Stone Roses were gonna make it big....VERY big. Due to legal issues with their record company Silverstone and large gaps (5 years) between debut album and follow up album...this caused the fall of their massive hype. They sold out an illegal mini-festival which they set up theirselves which was almost the size of Glastonbury and everyone only new by word of mouth!!! amazing! Legends...

Oasis
Another British Indie band but a classic. Catchy, brillaint songs, what more can you ask for? A controversial frontman with the bands fanbase growing everyday, they were propelled into stardom. Brillaint!

The Charlatans
Another brillaint Mancheste British Indie Rock band just like the rest of my top 3. This band is slightly diffrent though. Less rock and roll than the othere 2 but still amazing. Deffinetley an excellent band indeed.

Sorry for the small writing on the last 2 bands but i am short of time. Nice to see you all again.
