KoRn

I put off making this thread so long, but I can no longer deny the cravings...

Basically its about KoRn, my absolute favourite band of all time, and is open for discussion regarding how much you like or hate their music, favourite tracks, etc. etc. I understand that KoRn is an aquired taste, so I won't be offended if you totally rip on them. Just very disappointed. Anyway...

KoRn released their self-title debut in 1994, and are made up of Jonathon Davis (vocals, bagpipes), Fieldy (bass), Munk (guitar), Head (guitar) and David (insane drumming). This album became gold after extensive touring and promotion (most notably openning for Ozzy Osbourne) and then they kind of... disappeared. Seen as a one hit wonder, so to speak.

Then in 1996 they released Life is Peachy, which differed incredibly from what the fans expected, but (in my opinion at least) was a reasonably good album. It is a hard album to get into, heh, whoever you are.

In 98 they released their best-yet album Follow the Leader, which had the hit singles God Hates Me and Freak on a Leash, plus collaborations with Fred Durst, Cheech and Ice Cube (I think it was Ice Cube, at any rate. It's been a while). On it was a song written about a little boy who requested to see them as part of the Make A Wish foundation.

In 99 they released Issues, which had a shiteload of publicity surrounding it but was a pretty big disappointment. It was good, but not that good. Of note is there is four different versions of that albums cover. In 2002 they released Untouchables, another let down of an album. Like Issues, it didn't live up to the name KoRn had made for themselves.

Then, just last year, they released Take a Look in the Mirror, which is like a return to their roots. Of course, they are yet to top Follow the Leader, but TALITM is a step towards it.

And yeah. A makeshift discography, lol. At the moment I'm listening to Issues the most, but my favourite is Follow the Leader. Having said that, my favourite song ever is Blind from their first album. Go figure. So yeah. Thoughts?

Korn is one of the most horrible bands of all-time.Most of their songs sound almost exactly alike, how can you listen to a band like Korn.

I think that's what's called "personal taste".

Seriously, if you're only going to post something like that, then why post at all?

At the very least, you could go into more depth about why you don't like Korn and you could open that up for some discussion. Music is a personal taste thing; if you don't like it, you don't like it. But let's at least put some depth and thought into our posts here.

Well, first I put the CD into the CD player, then I hit play and music comes out of the speakers. Its an ingenious concept.

And may I point out that its only the last three albums that have sounded the same... because they got stuck in a rut, so to speak... KoRn, Life is Peachy and Follow the Leader are unique unto themselves. That's why a heap of people hate Life is Peachy, actually, because it was such a huge step musically from KoRn.

Dude i have to say that to me Life is Peachy sounded rushed. Dont get me wrong it had some good songs but the rest seemed rush and not thought about . But you cant really blame them them because it was their secound album and fans and the record label were putting presure for a new album on the band.

I think korns untouchable album is really good and the open track here to say is a real assult on the sense and ears

You could say that but what bands do you listen to huh? Im sure anybody could say that about the bands you like and you wouldnt like that. If youre gonna post that at least say a reason why.

I never used to like KoRn, I used to think their music was kind of dark. Though then I heard more of their music and not all of it is heavy and deep like most of their songs.

"Make Me Bad" is probably my favourite song from KoRn. "Blind", "Dead Bodies Everywhere", "Freak On A Leash", all mad songs.
Does it really matter what I post, it's called freedom speech dumbasses!
It sure does matter what you post. It's not so much the fact that you posted something negative though; it's the fact that you put absolutely no effort into what you typed.

Basically you just said "your band sucks why would you listen to it?"

That's spam on this site. There's no quality there. If you want to raise the bar and get into an intelligent discussion (as we encourage on OB), then that's fine. But you aren't demonstrating that so far.

Calling everyone dumbasses doesn't help your cause either. This latest post just got you a one way ticket to banville.

Does anyone realize what exactly freedom of speech entails anymore? I think people need better lessons on the Constiution. Not to mention, it's not like his post said anything of value in the first place. You don't like the band, now I'm enlightened. Good riddance.

Anyway, Korn isn't really a band I can get into anymore. I've had no real interest in their last couple of releases at all. Issues happened to come out at a time when I was still somewhat into the style Korn provided. Strangely, it seems like I'm one of a handful of people who even likes that album.

Even if people hate Korn now, I think they'd be foolish to ignore the absolutely massive impact they had on popular music when they debuted. I still listen to their debut LP from time to time. I honestly prefer it to a lot of their later stuff, mostly because it has a lot more of a hip hop vibe with a bit less angst than they wound up putting out later. It's still pretty enjoyable.

I've actually been listening to their debut a lot lately, heh, because it is a genuinely enjoyable album. I've found that I enjoy the sound a bit more than their later releases, because it doesn't have an obscene amount of synthesized noise in it, heh. Untouchables is a shocker for overuse of synth, as opposed to KoRn which had very little.

And KoRn had a huge impact on poplar music. They reinvigorated the dieing metal scene and brought many bands into the spotlight. (I think they brought Rammstein into the spotlight, I can't be sure though).

I like Korn. I've listened to all of their music, with the exception of Life is Peachy simply because I can never get a hold of a copy (whether at the store or from a friend). I like their older stuff compared to the newer releases, although I liked Take A Look in the Mirror more than I thought I would coming off of the release of Untouchables. Right now, I'm listening to Greatest Hits Vol.1. I like the tracklisting, and the covers of Word Up and Another Brick in the Wall (pt. 1,2,3) (Word Up cover amuses me lol), nice mix of old an new.

Now just waiting for "Reise, Reise" to be released by Rammstein here.

I actually like Untouchables... It's in my top ten favourite albums.

And you're not missing much in Life is Peachy, heh. While it has some stand out songs (ADIDAS and Kill You, notabley), it's also got a lot of **** on it, like Twist and Chi.

I was actually pretty disappointed in it, when I first heard it, as I'd been expecting more of an original KoRn sound but came out with something that was totally out there. It's grown on me though, even though it has some rubbish.

No, seriously, Korn are quite a good band, I have got quite fond of some of their songs, like Freak on a leash and Make me Bad, most notably I got into their song, Here to stay when I was a little more depressed. Interestingly, raging alogn with that song got me to feel a little better.

They're the only songs I really heard from Korn, I didn't beocme a great fan of theirs, I was mroe into Limp Bizkit when they were big.

Just bought the Greatest Hits (released today in Australia). I'm only on on the second track, but I just thought I'd comment that their Another Brick in the Wall cover is amazing. Seriously. I'll edit this post later once I've finished listening to it, and have watch the DVD that came coupled with it.

yeah, the Another Brick in the Wall cover rocks! I tuned in to the local alternative radio station over here, to hear a metal version of Another Brick in the Wall, I loved it the first second I heard it.

It's a great song. I quite like the Floyd original and it was quite cool to hear a rocked up version of it. :smirk:

KoRn is good metal band, and like Tony (Semjaza) said, there's no denying the impact they had on the industry. However, I really can only listen to them when I'm in pissed but sedated kind of mood, because they have a very certain flavor of angry to a majority of their songs. It's great when you're in the mood, but definitely not music you can just start playing randomly.

Of course, they're my best friend's favorite band and she plays them all the time, so it really is a matter of opinion/taste. I personally prefer more Disturbed or Kittie if I'm going to listen to metal.

My mom says she can't the difference. All of it makes her ears bleed. XD
