?Just keep your mind on what you?re doing. Take your mind off of this for a second and we?re all dead. And I?ll be damned if I?m going to die all because a little girl felt like goofing around!? she yelled over the cannon fire.

?FIRE!!? Heero yelled.

Katrina lit the cannon and covered her ears. The cannon shot back in a flurry. She tried to see if they had the advantage or not when she noticed Vey was looking distant and hitting the side of her head.

?Vey? VEY!!!? Katrina screamed.

?I- I can?t hear a thing!!!? she screamed.

?FIRE!!? Heero yelled a second time

Katrina looked at Vey and put Vey?s hands to her ears as she threw her back. She lit both the cannons and covered her ears as they both kicked back from the shots and hit her with so much force, she was knocked to the back of the room. She looked at Vey, and her left ear was bleeding. She got up, despite the pain she felt in her stomach and checked her other ear. The ear was okay.

?Vey? Vey do you hear me??

Vey smiled. ?I hear you mate. It?s this other ear that seems to be lost.?

Katrina knelt down to her and looked at the girl. She seemed sad, sadder than she had ever seen her. She would be permanently deaf in that ear. There was no way back from it.

?FIRE!!!? Heero yelled

Katrina looked at Vey, and Vey nodded. She got up and lit her cannon as Katrina did the same. But this time, Katrina walked over to Vey and put her hands on her ears to make sure they wouldn?t be further damaged. The blow of the cannons kicked back and Katrina was able to quickly catch them.

?REPORT!? Heero yelled to the bottom deck.

?Cannons are good, Heero, but Vey?s been injured.?

Heero?s eyes went wide ?What? How? What happened? What?s wrong?? he yelled.

Katrina tried to hold the tears back as she looked at a sad Vey. ?She?s deaf in one ear, Heero. She didn?t cover them quick enough, and the blast was too much for her.?

?Damn!? Heero yelled. ?Cease fire, they?re ruined. Raise the sails, Jericho.? He jumped down to the bottom deck and went over to Vey.

He snapped his fingers in her left ear and noticed the blood. He looked back at Katrina who tried to stay strong and professional with her hands behind her back. But the tears were clearly there.

?Vey??

?I hear ya fine Captain. It?s this bloody ear.? She said as she turned and wiped her tears away.

Heero looked down at that moment. He then stood up and hugged the young girl. Vey cried a little as she held her ear.

Katrina had seen enough. She couldn?t take it anymore. She walked up to the top deck and walked slowly toward her quarters.

?What happened down there, Katrina??? Jericho asked.

But Katrina didn?t answer, She didn?t even glance back. She just walked to her quarters.

Later that night, Katrina had gone up to the top of the mast. She leaned against the frame and stared out into the sea. She didn?t know why it affected her so much. Part of her blamed herself for what had happened. Vey lost her hearing because Katrina failed to make sure she was taken care of.

?There wasn?t anything you could have done.? Heero said from behind.

Katrina looked back at her captain and turned back around. ?There was plenty I could have done. I could have been more focused on the work at hand. Instead of ridiculing her on her lack of focus.?

Heero stood there for a while and said nothing. ?Katrina, she wasn?t focused on her duties. She KNEW what she had to do. She wasn?t thinking. You can?t be responsible for the actions of every single person on this ship. I?m afraid that falls on the Captain?s shoulders.?

Katrina looked back again at him and met his gaze. ?How could it have been your fault?? she asked in disbelief.

?Katrina, taking command of a ship makes me responsible for the actions of each person who comes aboard. I should have given the job to someone more experienced in that area. Vey needed to keep her mind on the work she was given. And she forgot one of the steps. I should have taken the possibility into consideration before I sent her down there with you. But I can?t do anything about it now. While it?s a loss for the crew, I don?t know how else we can take care of this situation.?

Katrina stared at him for a while. ?She can?t hear the way she used to, Heero. It?s not something I can just overlook.? She stared back at the ocean.

Heero put his hand on her shoulder. ?It?s not your fault. And I don?t think Vey would want you blaming yourself either. You need some rest.?

?I?ll get some when I?m ready to go to sleep. Right now I need this time to think.?

Heero nodded and pat her shoulder as he walked back.

Katrina didn?t like feeling as if she failed. And no matter what her captain told her, she couldn?t find rest knowing that a young girl is partially deaf. And she did blame herself.

Vey looked at the ceiling for the 18th time and cursed explosively.
"They think I'm a bloody child...I know that I did that wrong, I was prepared fir that...I am not stupid and I know that I'll probably never hear from this ear again. And I don't blame anyone but my-self."
Vey walked up the steps to the deck and looked up at the night sky to the moon. She felt her tears well up in her eyes and looked down at her feet. She put her hand to her injured ear and sobbed. Sh e looked back as a floor board ceeked and gasped as Jericho looked at her softly.
"Hey shortstuff, you ok?"
Vey blinked back her tears and nodded than shook her head.
"I messed up Inblade, I messed up sp much, I put every one in danger...I messed up..."
Jericho sighed and put a hand on her shoulder.
"Hey your ok, no one died, Your okay."
"NO! I'm not ok! I messed up and I almost got Katrina in danger. I mesed up..."
Vey looked down and sniffed.
"I messed up..."

Early the next morning when the sun began to rise Heero stood at the front of the ship leaning on the side, everyone was still alseep apart from Vey who had walked out on deck, she saw Heero standing in deep thought and slowly she approached him

'Heero...I'm really sorry for....' but she was cut off by him

'Stop it!,' he snapped as he looked at her with a deep frown, Vey looked up at him with tears in her eyes by his sudden harshness

'But I....I let everyone down,' she cried

'If that is so, then why are we still here,' he said raising an eyebrow, he then held out his hand, 'Come up here,'

She looked at him and took his hand and he pulled her up to the where he stood, she steadied herself by holding onto the side

'Vey, we all make mistakes noones perfect and sometimes we pay the price, even the greatest of pirates make mistakes...just like my father, he made the mistake of setting anchor in unknown waters, and there's also so me,' smiled Heero as he looked at her

'You've made mistakes??' she questioned looking up at him

'Of course i have, one time with my father we began war with another pirate ship, he sent me down
to the load the canons, what happened was i lit it and shot a huge hole through the side of the Ladies Mile..the canonball sunk the other ship but in the process i just about sunk our own,' laughed Heero, Vey began to laugh and then she looked at Heero

'I'm surprised you haven't kicked me off for acting so childish,' she said

Heero laughed and then looked at her, 'Now why would i do something that stupid, your an excellent sailor and you've proved yourself worthy..you may have a childish personality but hey like i said noones perfect, we be what we want to be,'

'But because of it everyone treats me like a kid,' sighed Vey

'Then prove them wrong...in my eyes your a young lady, a piratess of the Devils Rose but just next time...leave the child at the door until after the war,' smiled Heero as he nudged her arm, ' and with your ear, you never know the hearing may come back again, just give it time to heal,'

Vey looked up at him and smiled, at that moment Cliff called out

'Breakfast!!,' he yelled and they jumped down from the side and walked to the kitchen

Vey felt better and began to have her normal spunk back she wraped an arm around Jericho's neck and joke throttled him.
"You seem in much better spirits today."
"Thats because I saw your funny face."
Heero choked on his drink and coughed as he tried to laugh.
"Vey..."
"Yea yea I know Jericho. 'Act your age for once.' Right?"
"Yes."
"No."
Vey sat down next to Cliff across form Heero and looked around.
"Hey where's Katrina?"
Heero shrugged and Jericho arched an eyebrow.
"Like I care?"
Vey smiled wickedly.
"You like her, you just hate to admitt it...or do you LOVE her? Is that it?"
A fork landed in the table by her hand, Jericho's eyes narrowed to slits.
"Watch it kid."
"Oh, did I hit a nerve?"
Jericho picked up and knife and Vey mimcked him.
"Engaurd!"
Vey threw tha knife into the table and yelled comicly running up the steps to the deck, Jericho not far behind. She reached the mast pole and shimmied up it. Jericho looked at her eyes wide.
"You climb like a monkey!"
"Monkey is as Monkey does. I've had to get away from many an angry baker in my life so I learned the basics."
"Your ridiculous."
"Your the one who's embaressed about how he feels."
A knife embedded it-self by her cheek.
"WHAT? I was only saying the truth."
Jericho began to climb the mast, Vey sqealed and shimmed more as Katrina came from her room.
"NO NO NO! STAY AWAY!"

Jericho looked up at Vey and yelled at her some more.

" Get down here , you want to act like a little kid i'll treat you like a damn kid Vey ! "

" Come on just admit it Jericho." laughed Vey.

" How about I shoot you down , that would teach you to keep your little kid comments shut."

" You really must like her if you got to resort to violence."

As they continued to argue the voice of Katrina was heard.

"NO NO NO! STAY AWAY!" yelled Katrina

" Damn it look what you started , now she's here." said Jericho very unhappy.

" Good you can tell her how you you feel." smiled Vey.

Jericho said nothing and Climbed down the mast really upset. Katrina looked at Jericho.

" Are you stupit if one of you fell from up their from playing around." said Katrina to Jericho and Vey.

" Then tell your buddy to keep her mouth shut. As for you I don't owe you any damn money so shut up about the damn topic. " , yelled Jericho !

Katrina was about to say something to Jericho but he walked right past her.

" Hey don't tell me to shut up , don't turn your back when i'm talking."

" I'll turn back if I want missy." , said Jericho very rudely !

Heero came right up in front of Jericho.

"What?" Jericho asked in a somewhat annoyed tone.

"Apologize before I have you thrown overboard."

"What? You're crazy! You're all Crazy!!" he yelled at Heero

"If you're going to act like a child, I'll treat you like a child. Now apologize Inblade."

Jericho scowled at his captain. He hated being told what to do. He sighed as he turned around to a rather shocked Katrina.

He stopped as he looked at her. "Do I have to?" he said as he turned toward Heero.

"Katrina didn't deserve that. She wasn't the one who pissed you off." He said as he folded his arms.

Vey chuckled as an angry Jericho looked her way. She closed her mouth completely and smiled.

"I'm sorry." he mumbled

"Louder, Inblade, or this is about to become your cemetary plot."

"FINE!! I'm sorry okay? Happy now?" he walked past Katrina again as Katrina watched him storm off.

She looked at Heero and he smiled at her. She frowned and walked up to him. "May I have a word with you?" she asked urgently.

"What seems to be the problem?" Heero asked

"There's something wrong with the records. While it's true, that Captain Ravern was the one who struck down Revonair with the Devils Rose, it looks as if Revonair was never found."

"What? What are you talking about?"

"I mean he's alive. In the back of Revonair's book here, I noticed a page was missing. When I looked again, he had written a message, well more like a threat. He swore to Ravern that he would be coming back for revenge."

"Well what has that got to do with us?"

Katrina looked at hm. She knew he already had the answer.

He frowned. "He's got the last piece to the treasure map."

"And he's looking for the Devil's Rose. We're a target, Heero. He's waiting for us."

Heeros face became cold and stern as he looked around the ship, he walked to the side of the ship

'Over my dead body,' whispered Heero as Katrina walked up to him

'We're gonna have to be alert at all times because who knows where he is,' said Katrina as they gazed out over the blue waters.

Katrina looked at Heero and saw his eyes darken

'Where are you..you bastard,' Heero cursed under his breath

Jericho and Vey were still arguing about Jericho liking Katrina,

Heero looked at them with a stern frown and then left them arguing while he went below deck to Cliff and told Cliff what Katrina had found in the book

'Hmmmm....' graoned Cliff, 'This could be bad,'

'I know, if he's out there searching for The Devils Rose...then we could be in for bad whether on the most clearest of days,' said Heero as he sat down at that moment Vey bolted into the kitchen sreaming, Heero was quick to rise from his chair as Vey ran behind him

'He's gone mad!!,' she screamed as Jericho stormed into the Kitched with his gun drawn

'Where is she...I swear i will kill her!!!,' roared Jericho in rage

'JERICHO PUT THE DAMN GUN AWAY!!,' snapped Heero with anger as he turned around to Vey

'but she's pissing me off!!,' objected Jericho

'And as for you, if he has feelings for Katrina..GET OVER IT NOW!!!...because with the way your acting anyone would think you like Jericho,' growled Heero as Jericho laughed putting away his gun

'your joking right!!!!,' she cried out in dismay, Heero's eyes narrowed and Vey slumped down in the chair and pouted, Heero looked at Jericho and they both laughed

'Very funny!,' she hissed at the both of them

Vey frowned and narrowed her eyes at the two boys laughing at her.
"Laugh at me will ya?"
She hopped up onto her chair and launched off takleing Heero.
"Now, lets see just how fast YOU are...dear captin."
She fliped off and ran to the deck but stopped, she flew forward as Heero and Jericho ramed into her.
"Vey..why did-"
SHe stood and brushed her-self off.
"Um...I think we'er in for a storm..."
She looked up at the black sky and ran to her quaters.
"Katrina! We got a storm brewin in our path. We're gonna need you."
Vey ran back onto the deck adn looked down at the water. She turned and looked at Heero.
"Bring in the sails, we ae fixin to get some wind."
"How can you tell?"
"Air chaged, that and the waters gettin chopy."
Vey ran with Heero to bring the sails in and tie them down as Cliff helped Jericho and Katrina. All jokes forgotten.
"Now, we need to level this beaut."
"Level?"
"Thats no normal storm cap. That be a hurricane."
"How?"
"You see the color in the cloud there? Tis green. That gave it away."
"Right so how do we level this ship?"
"Simple, put two boats on each side."
Heeor blinked.
"The row boats..."
"Right."
Vey grabed a hold of a rope and pulled dragign the boat with her. She winced as the corase rope bit into her hand and sliced it open.
"Seven sands of hell! Lets finish up, we're gettin hit now."
Tha ship rocked and lifted as the wind picked up and tossed the ship.
"We gotta get under deck!"
Vey nodded as Heero gave the order and ran as a wave emptied onto the deck. Jericho looked around.
"Where's Katrina?"
Vey looked around and gasped.
"Katrina!"
She ran for the doo but Heeor stopped her.
"Never risk your life for another."
"She's not 'another' Heero, shes my friend and I'm NOT leavign her out there."
Heero tighten his grip on her waist and she let out a frustrated growl, whirling around she brought her fist up and under his chin knocking him to the floor.
"Take that anyway you want but I have to go help her."
Vey ran out onto the deck and slipped on the water.
"KATRINA!"
"Vey! Over here! This sail came loose."
Vey rushed over and began to work quickly as rain pounded on them.
"We gotta hurry, it's gettin bad."
Katrina nodded and looked up.
"LOOK OUT!"
Vey looked back and screamed as a wave smashed down on them. She grabed a rope and tied it arounf Katrina's waist and let go.
"VEY!"
Vey hit the side and screamed gian.
"That hurt..."
She looked up as another wave came down upon the Devils Rose.
"SHIT!"
She wrapped a rope around her-self and held on.

Heero, where are you?

Katrina stood up against the waves as she picked up Vey. She untied Vey and ran to the bottom deck where everyone else had gathered.

She got inside and Vey started coughing out water.

Jericho looked at the both of them. "Who saved who?" he laughed.

"Shut up Inblade." Katrina said as she patted Vey's back. She looked at Vey and smiled. "Thanks Vey."

"Aye, do mention it, mate. Just return the favor when due." she winked at Katrina and Katrina laughed.

"Man, I'm starved!!" said Jericho

"You just ate!!" Katrina said

"So? Is it so unusual to be hungry after a small plate of breakfast?"

Katrina shook her head.

Heero was sitting in the corner near the light with the book in hand.

"Whatcha reading there Heero?" Vey asked with a smile as she bent near to see the book.

"That the Devil's Rose journal or Revonairs?" Katrina asked trying to dry herself off.

"The Devil's Rose by the looks of it mate." Vey said as she sat next to him.

"It doesn't make sense." he said as he stood up. He slammed the book down and stared up at the ceiling of the lower deck. "How could he still be alive? There was no where for him to go! There were no land south of Duego. And there were no row boats on his ship!!"

"I hate to say it, but I think this Revonair is craftier than we all gave him credit for.." said Cliff. His voice trailed off.

"What is it Cliff?" Katrina asked

"Nothing... nothing. Heero, I need to speak with you alone."

Heero looked at Cliff puzzled as they walked into the hallway.

"What is it old timer?"

"The Pirates that took your fathers life."

"What? What are you-"

"Just listen, did you get a good look at em?"

"No, I was gone after they killed him." the thought made him angry.

"Could he already have a ship and crew lad?"

"Who-" and then Heero understood where he was getting at.

"I don't know... " Heero looked over at the crew. He knew things were about to get worse.

Vey grumbled as she mopped up he water below deck.
"That bum Jericho should be helping me..."
Heero and Cliff had gone to the captins quarters to talk and Katrina had left to bury her nose in that book agian.
"I can't take this, me hands hurt and if i mop anymore they gonna reopen."
She sat on the floor and sighed as the cool wood braced her back.
"Storms dieing down now...wonder what it looks like out there..."
She stood and returned to mopping as Jericho came down the steps soaked form head to foot.
"NO! Your only puttin more water down here!"
"So?"
Vey narrowed her eyes and thre the mop at Jericho.
"Fine, you can mop it than. Bloody water rat."
"I heard that!"
"LIKE I CARE!"
Vey stormed onto the deck and into her quarters and flopped onto her bed. Katrina blinked.
"Vey?-"
"You had best keep an eye for you little pet or I'll murder him I will."
"Pet?"
"Jericho."
Katrina sighed and looked back at the book to tired to argu with the girl.

Heero lent against the wall in the captains quarters listening to Cliff

'So you think it was Captain Ravern that killed my father...but why?' questioned Heero

'I don't know, but from what all the stories said He didn't care who he sunk as long as he got everything they owned,' replied Cliff as he watched Heeros eyes grow dark

'But he went down a long time ago,' Heero objected

'Well looks like he may be back,' whispered Cliff

'If it was him...then let him come, if he's going to take me down then i'll take him down with me,' growled Heero as the ship growled, Cliff and Heero looked at each other

'I don't think she likes that idea,' laughed Cliff, Heero raised an eye brow and then laughed. Heero and Cliff walked out from the captains quarters to find that Jericho had just finished mopping

Heero then ran up to the wheel, 'Lets head for Duego, we deffinately need some repairs done and more supplies,'

They arrived at Duego earlier the next morning. Katrina took her satchel filled with gold pieces so she could buy what she knew they'd need for the ship.

As she passed Vey, Vey smiled toward Jericho and Jericho got angry. He patted his gun, and Vey immediately went quiet.

"Heero, how is our supply on coals and food?"

"Cliff is taking care of the food expenses." he said as he jumped down from the wheel. "We're pretty okay on coal, but we can always use more."

"If you don't mind Heero, I'm getting myself some pain killers. This ear is giving me nothin but bloody pain."

"Alright, the money you all have is yours. I only ask that you pay for things you know the ship needs. And no stealing, Got it?"

"Got it." Vey said as she jumped off the side of the boat onto the docks.

Jericho shook his head. "Show off." he said as he followed suit and jumped down as well.

Katrina looked around a bit more before she left with the others. She wanted to make sure she got everything they needed before they headed out.

"Well little lady, don't you think it's time you get going?" Cliff asked with a smile.

"Just checking our inventory. Gotta use this money to the fullest." she said as she checked the oil for all the lamps.

"Katrina, use your money for yourself. We're all pitching in together to buy the things around the ship." said Heero as he tied the wheel down.

"I don't need anything for myself. It's not needed. And besides, it never hurts to stock up on items we might run out of." she smiled as they all left the Devil's Rose and walked into town.

As they were walking off the docks a they over heard an old man speak the name of the devils rose

'So she lives...the devils rose,' he said

Heero turned to him, 'Do you know the story?' questioned Heero

'Of course, I've seen her dock here many times when i was a lad, her captain was one not to be messed with...,' hissed the old man, 'Captain Ravern..a man who built the beauty which you sail in on...The Devils Rose...I heartless man, he made so many run and die in fear, he tortured all who came within his grasp,'

'We have reason to believe that he's still alive,' said Katrina

'I've also heard some rumours saying that he lives...but whether they are true is yet to be proven,' spoke the old man as he rubbed his chin, 'If he is...he'll be after only one thing....the Devils Rose...to destroy her for her betrayel or to get her back,'

Heero lent against some crates and looked at the old man with a deep frown

'I take it by the worried expression that your the captain of her young lad?' questioned the old man

'Yeah i am,' replied Heero

the old man nodded, 'I can see why she chose you lad, i know for a fact that she choose's her captains,'

'Yes we've heard the story,' said Katrina

'Young Captain...heed my words...The beauty knows him well, too well and if she has chosen you then listen to her...a storms a brewing but it's silent, never turn your back without looking twice,' said the old man as he stood up and walked off into a crowd of people who were crowded around the fish market

Katrina and Cliff looked at each other while Heero frowned as he looked back at the ship

With that in their heads they walked into town

Katrina walked into a shop where a young man was handling the store.

"Anything I can do for you?" he said looking at Katrina.

"We need some supplies for our ship." she handed him a slip of paper. "Just get everything on this list. I'll be back over here with payment."

"Certainly ma'am." he walked away with the list as she walked down and started looking at the ropes. She didn't notice a man coming up right behind her.

"Well, what do we have here? A little lady in a man's store."

"Is there some policy against that?" she said without looking up.

"Policy? No, just an observation." he said with a smile

"Well, I'm not interested in your daily observations. So if you'll leave me to my work, that would be greatly appreciated." she hunched down to look for the ropes she was after when all of a sudden, the man grabbed her wrist.

"I don't think I can do that. At least let me buy you a drink."

"I don't make it a habit to drink with idiots." she said releasing her wrist.

"Come on girl, don't be so hostile." he said as he tried to grab her wrist again.

Katrina acted swiftly as she twisted his arm behind him and held him in a lock. "Sorry, being hostile is my way of life. Now, will you be so kind to leave me and my hostility to my lonesome?"

He winced as she kicked him to the ground, and started walking away.

"Why you-" he pulled out his gun and pointed it at Katrina.

Just then, a gun was pointed straight at his head.

"Put it down, or your DNA will be scattered all over this floor." he said

Heero held the gun steadily to the mans head,...Katrina knew by looking at Heero that he had killed before, it was in his eyes and how calm they were with holding the gun to the mans head, how steady his arm was, some people would have that sense of a second thought on their face, in their eyes and by the way they held the gun...but he never

The man dropped the gun and slowly turned to Heero where he was now stearing down the barrel of Heeros gun, the man stood a few inches taller than Heero

'Please boy....I was just joking...just having abit of fun...you know...' smiled the man unsurely as Heero cocked his head to one side and raised an eyebrow and with out a word Heero hooked him across the jaw, blood splattered as a crunching of bone echoed in the shop and the man hit the floor

Katrina looked at the man who now lay either dead or unconcious on the floor, blood ran out of his mouth and nose and his jaw sat awkwardly on a slight slant, She looked at Heero who walked towards her, she looked at his hand noticed that it was slightly red around the knackles but other than that it was ok, it didn't swell or bleed

'Alright?' he asked bluntly not even looking at the body

'Ah...um..yeah,' she replied with a stutter, he then walked out the door as if nothing had happened and stood back over by Cliff who was talking to some food suppliers

She gazed around in shock, she looked at the young man who was handling the store and he looked as though he was going to be sick, she had seen blood before but it wasn't the blood that left her stunned...it was Heero's reaction and how he broke the mans jaw, even though she was greatful she was still stunned.

The young man handed Her the supplys and she walked out of the shop and back over by them

'Heero we can't leave the body inside the store,' said Katrina after getting her bearings back

'Who cares not our problem,' said Heero as he looked at her with a slight frown

Katrina looked back at the shop, 'Your right,' she agreed

'Come on lets keep looking around, I wonder what trouble those other two are getting up to?' questioned Cliff as he laughed

Katrina stared at the ground as they made their way through town. She felt guilty for what had happened in the store. She knew she could have prevented it if she didn't let her temper get away with her in the first place. But she reacted in her normal way and almost died because of it.

She almost died.

She didn't know the man pulled a gun on her until she heard Heero. If he didn't come, she would have been dead. She looked at Heero at the corner of her eye. He was serious. She didn't know if what had happened phased him or not. If he was still thinking about it like her. Or if it was just something he didn't even give a second thought to.

"It doesn't do any good to think about what you should have or should not have done, Katrina. It's in the past. You've got to move forward." he said aloud.

Katrina looked up. She couldn't understand how he knew her so well. "If I'm to learn from my mistakes, I need to find out where I did wrong."

Heero was silent for a second. "True, but you did nothing wrong." he said as he looked over at her. She was still staring ahead, not looking at him.

"Maybe." she said. If that was truly the case, she owed this man her life. "Thank you Heero. I would have died if it wasn't for you."

"Don't mention it." he said with a smile as he patted her back, and they walked forward and saw Vey.

Vey clunked the floggen of alchohol onto the table and watched as Jericho struggled to keep his in his mouth and drinkit quickly.
"You lose old man."
"OLD!?"
Vey laughed and loked up at Heero and Katrina. She saw the look on Heero's face and sombered quickly.
"What happened?"
Another floggen was placed infront of her and her eyes lit up, she plucked it from the table and downed it within seconds.
"Very good! No more. I'm done 2 id good enough for me."
She looked back at Heero.
"I've got what I need...you ready to go lover boy?"
Jericho glared a ther and she laughed.
"Good. Lets go Captin."

Katrina shook her head and started walking back to the ship. Getting Drunk was the lowest of lows in her book.

Vey looked at Katrina as she walked off. "What's her problem?" she asked aloud

Jericho laughed "She's always got something up her-"

"That's enough out of the both of you. Let's get going. Pronto." said Heero, he motioned to Cliff and Cliff followed him out.

They all reached the ship and set sail. Katrina leaned over the ledge and stared out at the ocean.

"What was wrong with you earlier?" Vey asked as she walked up to her.

Katrina looked at her and then returned her gaze at the sea. "Nothing. I just don't feel like talking much today."

"Well you looked angry mate. What was with the cold stare?"

"I don't waste words on people who probably wouldn't understand them."

"Say what?" Vey looked at her angrily.

"You were drunk. Why talk to a drunken idiot if they won't understand what you say anyways?"

Vey got angry. "I was no drunk Katrina, I had a few, but I wasn't drunk. It was that boyfriend of yours that got himself drunk. Have some bloody respect!"

"And the same goes to you, Vey. Knock off the jokes, and I'm sure we can reach a mutual understanding of one another. I don't find that humor funny in the least, and it looks as if Jericho feels the same."

Vey was fuming. She wanted to pund Katrina, but she decided just to turn around and leave. She didn't want to take this anymore. She turned towards her quarters and left.

Katrina kept staring out over the sea. She knew she was harsh, but she really didn't care anymore. She wasn't caring about much these days.

Heero looked down at the arguing girls, and shook his head in and turned his head to Cliff

'I have a crew who hate each other...' Heero whispered as he let go the wheel, ropes tied around the wheel without Heero touching them as he sat down on some crates

'They may argue and fight but when it comes down to the crunch they'll back each other up,' said Cliff sitting down next to him

'It looked so easy when my father did it, the crew got along so well,' sighed Heero as he laid back and looked up at the blue sky

'You know it wasn't that easy for him to find a good worthy crew, especially with you being so young at the time when he was recruiting, I mean noone wanted a captain who carried a baby around with him,'

Heero sat up and looked at Cliff

'I remember the first day your father brought you around to see me, you were such a happy child and he loved you,' smiled Cliff remembering that day, 'He wouldn't give you up for nothing, even though your mother had died he didn't let that overcome him, to him her death gave him apart of her...you and he was thankful that he wasn't left alone,'

'I wish i knew her,' said Heero looking out towards the water

'You would of loved her, she was beautiful, her eyes were a blue saphire like yours...you may look like your father but you have her eyes and the colour of her hair,' smiled Cliff

Heero looked up at him and smiled back, he then pulled out the medallion and kissed it then put it away then laid back down on the crates

'Well i'm going to prepare Dinner,' smiled Cliff as he walked off the Wheel deck leaving Heero to gave up at the sky

Jericho bored as he ever could be was firing his pistol at the seagulls, luckly he never killed any.

" Ah crap , i'm getting rusty at shoting my pistol. I can't even shoot down a worthless seagull.", said Jericho. Jericho started to walk around the ship as he had nothing better to do.

" I wonder if dinner is done.", Jericho made his way to the kitchen. Cliff looked at Jericho.

" Hey your not doing anything how about you help me." asked Cliff.

" Sure why not , I'm bored any way." said Jericho

" Have you ever cooked before ? "

" Well I know a special secret for a spicy spice for food." smiled Jericho.

Jericho began to tell Cliff his secret , Cliff was not sure if it actully tasted good but it sounded like it did.

" Hey Cliff don't worry I won that recipe in a card game." Jericho told Cliff as he began mixing spices.

The sun was beginning to set and there was a slight chill in the air, Heero got up and jumped off the wheel deck, he then walked over to Katrina and placed a hand on her shoulder

'I'd put warmer clothes on, she's gonna be cold,' spoke Heero as he walked away

'Ok,' she replied as she followed him down below deck, a lovely aroma drifted out from the kitchen and they went in to take alook

'Hey thats a great smell,' said Katrina as she walked over to the pot, Jericho suddenly wacked her on the head with the end of his wooden spoon

'No taste testing!,' he snapped

'And since when did you become the chef?' growled Katrina

'Since about twenty minutes ago when I became bored!,' he sighed as he stirred the pot

'Your always bored!,' snapped Katrina as she walked to her quarters to put on warmer clothing

'Dinner will be in five minutes!,' he growled at her as she closed the door behind her and he shook his head

'Well while your waiting for your masterpiece to cook, I suggest you put on warmer clothing,' said Heero

'Why's that?' questioned Jericho

'We're be nearing the destination of where Where Revonairs ship the Callesteria Ghost went down, the waters there aren't as deep...but you can guarantee that we're proberly gonna get a bit of trouble so prepare your self, I'm going down to make sure every cannon is loaded...many things happen in those waters,' explained Heero

'Yes and if i recall isn't that where the Rebel Pirates are?' questioned Cliff

'Yes it is,' said Heero

'What are the Rebel Pirates?' questioned Jericho

'They a group of pirates who plunder every ship and torture the ones they catch that sail on thier territory, When i was with my father we came across them once and believe me...it aint no picnic,' said Heero as he walked out of the kitchen

'Looks as though we're in for a bumpy ride,' said Jericho looking at Cliff

'That we are,' said Cliff

Katrina returned to her room to see a pouting Vey sitting on her bed.

She rolled her eyes as she gathered her clothes. She put her sweater on and layered her self when out of nowhere, Vey spoke.

"I'm not some kid you can scold whenever you feel like it."

"I don't want to scold you. I simply tell you when your playful habits get out of line."

"See, that's what I'm talking about. What's wrong with having fun?"

"Nothing. As long as you're not annoying those around you."

"So what was your problem earlier."

"You were drunk. And I don't find that appropriate."

"You mean, un-professional."

"Maybe."

Vey shook her head. "We're on a ship, yes, but this is also a place where people will live, and people will be around each other. And if we're going to tolerate one another, we have to ease up a little."

Katrina was silent as she pulled her hair back, and then stopped and let if fall. She looked down at the drawer in front of her. She knew she needed to ease up. But she didn't want to. She wasn't the kind of person who wanted to have fun. She needed a purpose. And work gave her that.

"I'll try Vey, but you also need to ease up on the jokes. I know it's all in good fun, but stuff like that, it's just not appropriate. Especially since we are all living together."

Vey was shocked. She didn't expect Katrina to back down like that. "I um.... okay. I'll try as well." she smiled. She walked up to Katrina, but Katrina was still staring at the drawer and was leaning in front of it. She was silent.

"We better get to the Kitchen. Those guys might eat all our food."

"I'm not really hungry."

"Come on, you gotta eat." Vey said.

"No, just tell them I went to bed early. I'm not hungry, Vey."

Vey was silent. "Did I say something mate?"

She smiled a little. "No, I'm just tired."

Vey nodded and turned and left. "Get some rest."

Vey left the quarters and walked to the Kitchen.

Katrina closed her eyes. She wasn't sure what she wanted anymore. She had never been scared in her life. Not even when her Captain was killed in front of her. She still felt a sense of purpose even then. But she had this lost feeling, knowing that she wasn't needed. She couldn't take care of Vey that night with the cannons. She couldn't even take care of herself.

She walked out of her quarters and walked to the storage room below. She walked to the port hole and stared outside. She just wanted to be alone.

Heero went up to his quarters and got dressed into warmer clothing and went up to take the wheel

He stood there searching the waters, the moon began rising and a ghostly mist rose from the sea he knew now that they had just crossed over into Rebel territory and that sent a shiever down his spine.

At that moment Cliff walked out from below and walked up onto the Wheel deck

'I see we have crossed the mark,' whispered Cliff as he searched the ghostly fog

'Yes,' replied Heero in a deep tone

'Many boats have gone down here...too many,' said Cliff looked down at Heero who never took his eyes off the waters around them

'This place is one huge ship graveyard and one of the biggest,' whispered Heero

'Come on, dinner is ready,' smiled Cliff

'No...I'll stay up here, tell the others to standby, and to get some rest,' smiled Heero, 'We may be in for a long night who knows,'

'But lad...' objected Cliff but was cut off

'Thats an order Cliff, I'll stay here,' said Heero sternly

'Ok..but i'll bring you up something to eat and a hot drink,' smiled Cliff as he went below deck

Heero's eyes darted around everywhere as if paranoid, at that moment a rope landed on his shoulder as if trying to comfort him

'Yeah I know...but who knows what this mist holds waiting for us...I can't let my guard down, during the day it's beautiful here and everythings good but it's when the night takes over and the mist rises is when this beautiful place reveals it's true colours...,' whispered Heero into the night

Katrina leant against the side of the ship. She had been down there for a good three hours. She couldn't understand what really was bothering her. Something kept eating away at her. It wasn't the memories. While as horrible as they were, she never seemed to be haunted by them before. She sat down on the ground and stared at her hands. She was so annoyed.

She walked back up to the upper deck and sat back down. She didn't want to sleep. She needed to figure this out. She didn't know why all of this was bothering her now. Why didn't it before?

She saw Heero at the wheel. She didn't espect him to be up either. She frowned a little. She was grateful for what he did. But she also knew that he was causing her to doubt herself, and that wasn't something she enjoyed.

She was about to walk back when something caught her eye. She looked over the water and saw a large ship. It was a sunken ship, but she recognized it's body. It was the Callesteria Ghost, She went over to the side and tried to get a better look. It was completely torn to shreads. If Revonair did escape that, then where in the world could he have gone to.

Heero walked down to her and nodded. "Callesteria. The only ship men would fear. And now there's this one. The Devil's Rose."

"Heero, where is he?" she said as she stared at the ship. Heero didn't say a word. He knew it looked impossible, but to ignore the posibility of his escape would prove disasterous. That much he knew.

"I don't know. But we'll find him. Or he will find us. And we have to be ready for that."

Katrina just stared at the ocean. She nodded in her professional way, but no longer felt her sense of duty. She wanted to feel like she had a duty again. Thigs were so much easier back then.

Heero looked at Katrina and then turned and lent against the side

'Would you rather i let you die?' he questioned in a serious tone

Katrina looked at him shocked by his questioned

'I don't know,' she replied, 'I just feel annoyed,'

'your either annoyed at the fact that i saved you and it wasn't yourself...or your annoyed at the fact that you didn't see it coming,' spoke Heero harshly

'How do you know?' questioned Katrina

'Katrina it's written all over your face...Damn girl you walk around here feeling sorry for yourself, you look as though you've lost all sense of duty..why?...because your annoyed at yourself and perhaps even me...for either helping you or for you not seeing it,' snapped Heero, 'Your walking dead!'

'What??..I'm not walking dead!!,' she snapped

'Katrina you proberly wont even see a canon fly at your head because your too busy feeling sorry for yourself,' growled Heero

'You dont know me!!,' she roared

'Thats right..i don't know you, and if i had of known that you were going to pity yourself because of what happened with Vey and what happened back Duego..then I should of let you die....I will take you back to Duego..your ride ends there...maybe then you can go back and finish the job,' spoke Heero harshly as he began walking away, Katrina then grabbed his arm with a tight grip

'So you just goona give up on me???' she snapped, Heero pulled his arm free and looked at her

'No Katrina...I didn't give up on you...you gave up on yourself, I thought that you were a good pirate but i guess i was wrong,' he spoke more calmer

'I am a good pirate and a respected one!!,' she roared even louder which echoed across the sea

'A good pirate..A respected pirate doesn't dwell on the situation, they get over it and learn from it....Katrina why become a pirate and join a ship or any ship if you'd rather be alone and rather be dwelling on past situations...because to me thats a pirate waiting to be killed and there's no respect in that, everything you have been taught..you'd rather throw away over matters that you can learn from...I don't want to take you back because I know that you are a fighter and a damn good pirate... but I don't want to see a good pirate go down without a fight......it's up to you..stay or go,' spoke Heero softly as he looked around and noticed an Island not to far from where the Callesteria went down

Katrina looked down at the deck knowing that Heero was right, he then placed a hand on her shoulder

'We'll camp at that Island for the night, give me your answer in the morning,' spoke Heero as he turned and walked back up to the wheel deck
