A ban has expired? If you are going to ban something in the first place, isn't it generally assumed that it is an important enough issue to try and prevent permanently?

The harder it is to get a gun, the safer the populous is.

There is no readily applicable reason for any one to carry an automatic weapon around. The only things guns are needed for are the army, police, and hunting.

Hunting doesn't require an automatic weapon.

Sword Breaker's comments about Americans and guns are pretty much the sentiments of the entire world, only most people's opinions involve more common-place spelling and grammar.

Some one, somewhere, in a position of power, ought to watch Bowling for Columbine.

Regarding the lady who was arrested...

I'm somehow reminded of Stalin. Neh?

The person who was in aposition of power (ie Bush) was promised an endorsement by the NRA (National Rifle Association) if he didn't renew the ban. So, to Bush votes for him were more important than renewing a decade old ban on assult weapons, which protected the people that he as president is supposed to protect.

So, while more and more police officers are being moved off the streets, military style weapons are getting on the streets just so he can be elected.

I think I should point out that military weapons are very different from a hunting rifle. They (the drill sergeants) tell you that the first day on the shooting range.

You don't need an assult rifle with a silencer and a flash guard to hunt bamibi. Hell, you don't even need a gun with a magazine that holds more than 10 bullets in a magazone to hunt bambi. I hope Bush realiizes what he's getting himself into putting himself before the American people.

And sadly, I agree with you Sword breaker. I grew up around guns so I learned gun safety from an early age (I also learned to shoot when I was 12), but for every parent who teaches their children about gun safety and every child who knows how to respect fire arms there are far more irresponsible gun owners.
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
You don't need an automatic weapon to protect yourself, or go shoot yourself Bambi or Thumper (do you know how many pieces Thumper would be in?) for that matter. The ban was necessary it wasn't an infringement on anyone's right to bare arms. And if everyone thinks that's bad, you should hear how Bush wants to shorten the waiting period for gun liscencing and backgorund checks.

Any American who is over 18 and not registered to vote, I strongly advise you to do so. Or try to get an absentee ballot if you're in the military (like LostProphet and lcrisler)

I seriously cannot believe that the ban has not been renewed. This should have absolutely nothing do to with politics--it's merely common sense, for heaven's sake. As far as I know, Bush specifically said he would sign a renewal of the ban into law if it ever reached his desk. However, because he didn't directly ask Republicans in Congress to support it, they allowed it to expire. That's hardly heinous, but it's not the kind of manuvering I have any desire to support.

For once I wholeheartedly agree with John Kerry: one simply can't talk about rooting out terrorism and then let something like the expiration of this ban slip through the cracks.
Oh, and Sol, i belive they got one becouse he was outta AK-47 ammo, pulled out his pistol, and dropped it. When he beant over to get it, a cop shot him in the face a few times.
Heh, I figured they took him out one way or the other. I was close...:D

Anyways, I heard about that endorsement Bush got from the NRA. Seriously, that is so ignorant in my mind it hurts to think about it. I mean I was supporting Bush until now (No need to debate this here, so don't be quoting me on it...Im just saying) but this is just ridiculous. Seriously, how can you sit there and allow military grade firepower on the streets? That is just so irresponsible...I can't believe such a thing has actually happened. Who knows how many weapons were sold to potential criminals/terrorists already...why the hell did we give this thing an expiration date anyways!?

Just wait till the crap hits the fan...just wait...then we will reenstate that ban and possibly 1-up on it and improve it. But that might be Too little, too late...and then what?

 • 2 weeks later...
i thought this thread had died out. *shakes head* oops!

Well on with the news. Yesterday i saw on Cnn that Mt Saint helens is predicted to erupt soon because it is belching smoke "puffs" and scientists are worried about this because of the previous eruptions that have tooken place in the past. This supposed eruption is expected to have a major impact on the peopole living there because of the expected runoff is suposed to destroy a huge amount of the local houses and most of the foliage in the area on the northern side of the mountain.
