It's been awhile since I've been on the boards, so you'll have to forgive me if this has already been brought up, but is it true that they're releasing Nausicaa here in America?

If you've read the manga of this series, you know how good it is. It's another film byHayao Miyazaki, creator of "Spirited Away" and the upcoming film "Howl's Moving Castle".

The story itself follows Nausicaa, princess of the Valley of the Wind, as she tries to unlock the secrets of the Ohmu, and try to save humanity. Over the course of the story, she meets some interesting people, and learns more about the world, and the Ohmu.

This movie was originally released in 1984 in Japan, and then we pretty much buttered it in the mid-eighties with a movie called "Warriors of the Wind". Miyazaki himself was disgusted by it.

Anyways, thanks for all your help. I was really exicited to hear this might be coming out, but I wanted to check and make sure. And if someone answers my question, we can turn this into a discussion about it. Thanks again!

Isn't it out already? Maybe they are referring to the DVD version or something? I could have sworn the anime was already brought over...

However, this might be something new from Disney. If I remember correctly, Disney wooed Miyazaki into giving them all the US rights to his shows. He was highly worried about his shows being "butchered," but Disney proved their worth with Spirited Away, and the award was icing on the cake. Simply put, after the success of Spirited Away in the states, Miyazaki was more than ready to give Disney all the rights to his entire collection.

Maybe the one you heard that was coming out is the Disney-released version or something?

Actually to the best of my knowledge, Nausicaa was never release state wise, (or at least it wasn't a year or so back) because I had to purchase my version as a Japanese import, I usually purchase the R1 US import but the dealer told me there wasn't one for Nausicaa, bear in mind that this was a few month after Princess Mononoke was released (i think) so it might have been release during that time...

Anyways, I still think Nausicaa is Miyazaki's best work, the artwork for its time was spetacular, and the story was wonderfully captivating... The butchered 'warrior of the wind' was the sole reason that Miyazaki withdraw from western audience for such a long time, which is really a shame, the lack of understanding of 'Anime' by western media during that time didn't help and Ghibli was doing fine at home with success after success.

IF it does get release in the state, it might even get release is Australia!!! (gasp!) If that's the case I'd get it again in a snap.

An official sub of Nausicaa has appeared at several film festivals. The uncut dub was just finished, and it will be released in January along with the Disney dub of Totoro and Porco Rosso to coincide with the American release of Howl's Moving Castle.

And please forget that "Warriors of the Wind" ever existed.

A butcher-cut version was released a while back. (Sorry if this has already been said; I just sort of skimmed...you know?)

I, for one, am a big fan of all things Miyazaki-related, including Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. (As a random point, I do believe I have a Great Aunt Nausicaa who I've never met. Or something. Heh.) I have volumes three and four of the newly released version of the manga (the un-flopped one, that is), and, of course, am boundlessly impressed by the artwork. (As my cousin says, "Every space is taken up--by a line. Crosshatching...the man's insane.)

Actually, I recently got the OST off of said cousin.

Porco Rosso and Nausicaa were scheduled to be released in 2005 or some hideously far-off date like that, by Disney. I hope there will be a better dubbing job done than with Spirited Away. (I think a new version of Totoro is being released, too. The Fox dub is pretty good, anyway, though.)

Ever since I first read Nausicaa, I've had this obsession with Asbel's hat that I try to hide. You never know when I might start going on about it. Heh.
