Mars

I started reading Mars when I got an issue of Smile back in July 2002 (or maybe earlier) the whole story line looked rather interesting.

I've only read 1-9, but there are 15 actual novels. The story is fast paced and a bit deep.

I don't really have a favorite character from there, but Kira does seem to make the biggest change in character throughout the story.

So, what are everyone else's thoughts on this manga?

I've read the series--keep with it. It gets really deep and dark; but it's not like other manga where it's totally unbelievable. It is fifteen books, but there is supposed to be another follow-up thingie (I'm not sure if it's another series or what) on the characters out there somewhere. It's hard to really like any of the characters, but I think that's just because they're portrayed realistically. Their faults are as evident as their strengths.
My favorite character is Masao. I don't know if you've gotten to him yet. Not really sure why he's my favorite . . . most interesting, maybe?

I read like the first three of the manga. I thought that the story development was getting even better every time I read a volume. I don't really have a favorite character, though Kira is cool. Once I have the money, I want to buy the whole fifteen books. I just have to finish collecting Kare Kano first.

I must have a bad memory because lately I've been thinking of a lot of things that I've read, and I really can't remember as much about them as I'd like to.

I've read most of this series, mostly what was printed in Smile and then a graphic novel or two, and I really enjoyed the series. It was a bit typical when it came to the good girl/bad boy relationship, but there were alot of deeper issues that were involved in the unraveling of the plot. I especially liked it that Kira was an artist. She was an inspiring character. I really hope that someday I'll be able to finish the series. That and Peach Girl.

 • 6 months later...
Well I just started reading Mars this month and so far I've gotten up to volume 11 and it's getting good. I don't really know if theres a thread about mars, so either way i made one. Every girl go gaga over peach girl(which I like), but Mars doesn't get enough credit for its good plot and drama. Well anyways, this thread is for Mars fan or people who just want to say something about it. I would love to know what people think about it and whats their favorite volume or scene. So post away and I will make sure I keep a constant check on my thread.

What a coincidence, I just started rereading Mars for the 24th time today. I love the drama, though it can get a bit unreal at times. I like Kira the best. Her character was just so in depth, and even when
the story wasn't about her past
(too lazy to deal with spoiler tags) she was still the way she was supposed to be due to it. Rei was great too, just because he was so messed up and stuff. Masoa was one really scary character, and I liked him and hated him at the same time.

I didn't like Mars: A Horse with No Name. It was just plain bad. About 20 pages about Tatsuya and Rei, and then a few side stories. Yawn.

Try to be unlazy with them in the future, please. ^^; -Lady Katana

Mars! Yay! I'm OBSESSED w/ Mars! :D

Kira was O.K....but she just seemed so helpless it was annoying sometimes. I know how Rei felt when he said 'When Kira cries I don't know what to do'. Great plot and when I saw the art style of Fuuyumi I fell in love w/ it itmediatley. Rei is my favorite charachter not just b/c he's pretty, butt b/c he was so dark and twisted on the inside...I can definetly relate.

He so protective of Sei...Everyone had the wrong view about him and he was violent too (<---one of the reasons no one really knew him.) ..Er I'm saying way to much. Lets just say that me and Rei would have a lot to rel8 2....

Well I love chapter 10. No not because of the sexaul part, but because of how it was the turning point for Kira. I think that it was sweet and a bit of real life situations there. I can wait to read 12-15. I must agree with Kira beong helpless and stuff, but to think that there are people like that.
I have read the entire series, and I absolutey loved it. IT WAS SO GOOD!!! I can't wait until the 16th volume comes out. Cause I want to see how Rei & Kira are doing after a year of being married.
If that's what you're waiting for, don't even bother with Gaiden. It was a VERY short prequal about how Tatsuya and Rei became friends, and then some short stories. grrrrr.

Mmm.. Ma Ma Mars! Brings back some old school memories. I love manga so much because it started out for me not just as a hobby but as a strong friendship bond between one of my best pals and I. We still sit on the floor of Border's Books (not B&N because they suck) and read to our hearts' contents... don't worry, I've bought 'a plenty.

Anywho, back to Mars. Yes, most definitely one of my favorite series to date. Typical shoujo in that it's chock full of emo, but a-typical in that it's quite dark at times and has a masculine aspect... uber hot Japanese bike racing. Oh, and have I forgot to mention how hot bike racing is? Shame on me.

It's one of my favorite shoujo/shounen hybrid mangas, and very -real-.

I wouldn't say to anyone that the Gaiden, "Horse With No Name" isn't worth reading. I won't go into detail to avoid spoiling it for anyone who's yet to read it, but in my opinion, more about the characters' pasts is much more interesting than peeking into their futures. If the manga-ka were to do this, I know it wouldn't sit well with me simply because it probably wouldn't feel long or detailed enough. Isn't this the main problem with most anime sequels/OAV's? Anyway, that's my dribble.

Well I haven't read the last four volumes yet....but its been so good so far. I can also relate the Galaxy, I would always go to borders with my freinds and sit down to read magna. I got them hooked on peach girl and mars, which is funny because I sometimes have to drag my freind out of borders. Well personally you can kinda tell how it ends, even though I haven't finished reading it. But like I said I love mars and always will.
