I was just on Anime News Network and I found out, they are making an Ah!Megami-sama! (or Ah!My Goddess!) television series. I am really happy about this, because Ah!Megami-Sama! Is one of the first anime I have ever loved and I always hated how short it was.

Anyways, does anyone have anything they want to say about the great news, or anything about the original OVA??

So Happy!! :D

Well, as long as they end up changing it to "Oh My Goddess!" as was originally intended rather than sticking with the stupid Ah!, and they follow the manga a bit more in terms of humor/action being paramount to romance, I'll be happy. Of course the artwork better be top-notch--without it, OMG would be worthless for me.

I got really excited when I heard the news too! And it's been animated by the same people who so excellently animated the movie, and naturally it's nice that all the old seiyuu are reprising their roles.

I just hope that the television series has a faster pacing than the originaly OVAs, which is very likely in my mind, as all of the initial character introductions have been made in the OVAs and all new fans will need is a quick refresher, also there's that fact they want to cover more of the manga this time around. :)

Just saw the first episode of the new TV series. Apparently they've decided to start from scratch, which is good for those of us (myself included) who know very little about the movie and OVAs.

As I was watching it raw, I probably missed a few key points, but the set-up seemed pretty simple. Nearly all of the episode was devoted to introducing Keiichi as a character: his bad luck in love, his bad luck in general, and his kindness.
Belldandy came through a mirror at the very end. I was sort of underwhelmed by that scene; it could have been much more beautiful, like Manatsu's lovely entrance in Uta~Kata (she too appears by emerging from a mirror).
Actually, I was underwhelmed by the art in general. The character designs are fabulous, and some of the abstract CG looks great, especially during the scene in which Keiichi was dialing the help-line. There's plenty of detail and all that, and the animation is good. However, overall it just pales tremendously in comparison to, say, Uta~Kata or the first episode of AIR. I had expected really gorgeous painted backgrounds and smooth, impeccable coloring. Yet so far AMG seems to be the kind of thing that makes me feel a little nostalgic for cel animation--and I haven't even seen the OVAs! Hopefully it'll look smoother, brighter and crisper on DVD.

The OP and ED themes are excellent (as is the regular music), and the accompanying clips/still shots seem well chosen. The OP did have one or two moments with really nasty CG backgrounds; fortunately, those seem to be absent from the series itself. I enjoyed the comedy (what I caught of it, anyway) and Keiichi's personality is pretty appealing. I also like the show's gentle slice-of-life atmosphere.

I'm being kind of nit-picky here, so I look forward to finding out what fans of the franchise think.

EDIT: If anyone's interested in seeing screencaps, I'll gladly post some.

I've seen fansubbed versions of the first two episodes now, and the series seems to be off to a decent start. Considering it really hasn't gotten past Keiichi's and Belldandy's introductions, though, I don't have much of an opinion on it yet.

As I expected, it's slower paced and more detailed than the OAV, since they've got a whole series to spread things out across, rather than a scant three episodes. (The first episode of the OAV, for example, begins with Belldandy's introduction and goes from there, rather than following Keiichi for a while beforehand.) Not a bad thing, in my opinion, though it makes the waiting in between episodes worse, heh. Can't wait till things start picking up.

As for art/animation ... I sort of have the same opinion on it in anime as I do for graphics in video games: If it doesn't detract from the experience, it's good enough. I thought these first two episodes were fine -- the CG is especially better than in the movie -- but I don't pay a whole lot of attention to the art. The characters and story are why I like AMG.

I figured that Ah! My Goddess TV would be licensed soon, but I certainly hadn't thought it would be this soon, and definitely not by Media Blasters. In a way this is a pleasant surprise... Media Blasters is a smaller company than Geneon (which released the movie), but they do treat their anime very well, and it's cool to see them net another fan favorite. It's just funny that the various R1 AMG properties have been spread out across at least four different companies.
