Still in the polishing stages, obviously, but that's a bare-bones look at the story. As you can tell, I'm looking to start an RPG that tells Star Wars from The Empire's POV.

Based on what you see here, what do you think? Would it make an interesting, enlightening, and possibly radical RPG?

EDIT: I've been developing the story/format more and more with Shy and Shinmaru, and I've decided to use a Documentary format for Rebel Scum. The flow and feel will be something you'd see on The Discovery Channel or The History Channel, I think.

Imagine, if you will, Star Wars like you've never seen it before. This is something that could be very unsettling for some, but a riot for others. What I'm seeking to do here could undermine people's previous conceptions about what Star Wars is, and how they have previously viewed the Saga.

Star Wars is all about Ideologies. Its basis is social, political, and historical commentary. Yes, there are mystical warriors and spaceships and such, but Star Wars is a cricitism of how we view the world, and the Saga is created so that we can start asking questions...so we can look at things from a different point of view. But when we're seeing things only from the Rebellion's point of view, so how can we gain more perspective on the "galaxy far, far away?"

Star Wars: Rebel Scum

Get ready to get down with The Empire. Start seeing things their way. Travel the galaxy, meet important people. You may just have the honor of playing The Emperor!

Enlist today and experience the greatest saga ever told: yours.

Well, well it seems you've taken that little debate from the Star Wars 411 and turned it into an docu-RPG (I suppose you might call it that). Personally I love the idea as I've waited from the chance to play a anti-Rebel in a Star Wars RPG, but since the chances only come around rarely I've never had the chance to do it.

The fact that it is written from The Empire's point of view means that this will be rather a unique little RPG which I will be more than happy to sign up to. Just a tiny question, how exactly will the RPG be laid out in terms of chapters, sign ups, characters etc. ?

Kane, excellent question. Glad you asked.

If you've ever seen any historical documentaries on The History Channel, you'll notice that they often have a narrator, and usually have a series of photographs, topics, and interviews.

The format and character selection will be similar to that. Once I'm able to find a picture of the narrator I'm using, that should provide an ample look and feel for the character, which will make writing the narration that much easier for whomever is selected for it.

The character selection is a unique one, in that those signing-up are able to play any character in The Empire. But (and this is an important but), the big three of The Empire, Grand Moff Tarkin, Darth Vader, and Emperor Palpatine, will be a very, very selective process, as I have a very specific vision for how they will be presented.

Thus, I will have exceedingly high demands regarding writer quality and skill if I'm accepting people to play those parts. If no-one fits the style for those three, I may have to play them myself, but I'm sure there are some on OB who can pull it off.

Any other characters are more hands-off...Stormtroopers, Imperial Officers, citizens of The Empire, etc, because their framework is fairly ambiguous, and they don't really need to be totally defined, as they aren't the major figureheads in The Empire.

Basically, I'll be working closely with Tarkin, Vader and Palpatine to help establish their characters for the context of the RPG.

With that said, I'll talk briefly about the format.

In those documentaries, there is usually a chronological flow that they use, with backstory and biography added in when necessary.

For example, in Rebel Scum, we may open on the twilight of the Old Republic, and see Palpatine ascend to the throne, but instead of pushing on through his ascension, we're given his biography, and told about his childhood, perhaps given the story of how he started his political career as mayor of his hometown on Coruscant.

That's just an example, obviously, but it may get into the final cut of the RPG.

I think Rebel Scum would best be a mini-series documentary, divided up into Episodes. This will also help bridge it to the Saga, because we would have Episode I, II, III, IV, etc.

As I said on AIM, it's funny that you had this idea since not too long ago I developed a similar concept myself. The documentary approach is something really unique to RPGs on the boards, and I think above all this separates it from the type of approach myself and others would have taken with it.

I'm wondering how the documentary-style approach is going to affect the pacing of the RPG. While it may be entertaining to hear about the Empire's capture of Han Solo on Bespin and it's political repercussions throughout the galaxy, is there going to be some sort of storyline and a regular set of characters throughout these documentaries?

By that I mean, we all know the story of Star Wars. Are we going to build off of the existing universe and create a story of our own within the RPG, or is the fun in this RPG just seeing the other side of things, and not going much further than that? I really hope that made sense.

Having said that, this is the most clever approach to doing a Star Wars RPG that I have ever seen. Members should use this as an example for creating interesting and innovative RPGs of their own. When using something as universally recognized as the Star Wars triliogies, you have a lot of freedom to defy conventions and make people think about the stories in a different way. A documentary-style approach is something you couldn't neccessarily do with a new set of characters and events, people need a point of reference that only an existing property can provide.

Good work, I look forward to seeing it.

OK again I'm going to have to sacrifice my pride in order to better understand the requirements of the RPG. I get the way in which the RPG is laid out, thanks for explaining it for me, however after looking at Shy's and Shinmaru's posts I have to admit I'm a little confused again. In signing up do we pick the character we're actually aiming to sign up as or is that just a sample by which you judge the different character ?

Kane, again, very good question.

The sign-ups are going to be used as a sample, and then I will place the characters. However, the minor characters I've spoken of, the Stormtroopers, Officers, Citizens, etc, are not going to be specific characters at all (players don't need to worry about "creating" a character). Shy and I have talked about it, and he suggested that locking players into those specific characters might not be the most useful approach to this RPG.

My take on it is this. With players creating specific characters, we may get most of them based on Tatooine, which would make them essentially useless when we're talking about the Old Republic on Coruscant. Also, with the same characters being repeated, the RPG will become stagnant, because we're not getting much variety in the interviews/narratives/etc.

So, instead of fitting the RPG to the characters, I'm fitting the characters to the RPG, in that the characters will flow out of the story itself, instead of the story being structured around the characters.

Obviously, Tarkin, Vader, and Palpatine will still be prominent figures, and I will probably have someone play them entirely when we delve into their histories and such, but the minor characters will be based on the needs of the RPG as it proceeds.

I hope I explained that more fully. If you're still unsure, feel free to reply here. AU is neat. :)

Star Wars: Rebel Scum has just Launched. The RPG is Live.

Here's the link:

Star Wars: Rebel Scum RPG

I've given a slight indication as to Episode content, but I'm going to include my own notes here. Others, feel free to bring in other ideas and material in your posts. ^_^

Weapon Inspectors

Arafat and HAMAS (drop me a line if you have questions about this one)

Presence of Children

Conflict of Interests

Political/Social Deceit

Abuses of Power

Abuses of Trust

Retrospect: Why was Leia racing home to Alderaan to have the schematics analyzed?

Retrospect: Why is Leia captured over Tatooine, when her destination is Alderaan?
The post order for the RPG is:

Shinmaru

Shy

Boba Fett

Kane

Siren
I'm leaving it open as to how many posts we'll all have in each Episode, because I'm not set on determining that right now. We'll see how things go, and keep in contact with each other. I'm more than open for more posts in an Episode, provided we can sustain the material. Also, James may make special guest appearances in Rebel Scum, so we'll insert him where necessary.

Good luck, all, and normally, I'd say, "May the Force be with you," but we're hunting down those Jedi scum, so...Set Blasters To Kill. ~_^

Have fun, people!

***EDIT***

I'm making a minor note here, as Shin has asked about my ideas and themes for Alderaan. The notes, ideas and such that I list do not reflect what the posts are required to be about. For example, Shinmaru's post is not required to specifically deal with Weapon Inspectors and nothing else. The similarities between the length and organization of the Idea List and the Post Order are purely coincidental.

Second, as Shin has asked for clarification, each member will be posting in each Episode at least once, more if the Episode seems to call for it. The Post Order is the post order for each Episode. ^_^

My notes and ideas don't need to be addressed in the order I've listed them in, either. The themes and such can be used in any order that still is appropriate.

***EDIT #2***

I've attached the HTML coding for the posts in a Notepad format. I believe the sections for Titles and Post Content are fairly well-marked, but if there are any questions, feel free to PM or IM me. The HTML will need to be re-spaced just a tiny bit; otherwise, it'll be really spaced out vertically. The solution is just a matter of deleting the extra space in between the HTML coding. Again, any questions, drop me a line. ^_^

Also, I'd like to request that all Off-Topic and "OOC" comments and notes be saved for Rebel Scum Underground. I'm envisioning the actual RPG thread itself to be very "there," and the OOC stuff detracts from it, heh.

Titles are optional. You don't need to include them, but you can if you like.

Okay, here's the deal. I don't understand the html at al. Almost all of us are using different fonts, different sizes, etc. I'm using Trebuchet MS personally, because I think it's the best font ever. I just want to make sure we're all on the same page, and that it looks good. Also, there are those awkward spaces at the top and bottom of each post, I'd like to see those addressed as well.

Anyone have any ideas? I think I can get someone who might be able to help, and rework some of the stuff that Desbreko put together just a bit.

TITLE GOES HERE

TEXT GOES HERE

---

Shy, your issues with the HTML are totally understandable. The original HTML was spaced that way so I would be able to see everything that Desi arranged. As each person posted, I got them the proper HTML. What I attached in a previous post was only the preliminary coding, as it were. What you see above in this post is precisely how the post style looks, and I've made sure to include the precise coding in a .txt file in my reply here.

Regarding the fonts, if anyone wants to use different fonts, you're more than welcome to. I'm not entirely sure which fonts are supported in HTML, but I suppose anything within reason is acceptable. But, if there are titles for any posts, I'm requesting that those remain Arial Black.

I believe we also need to use the Basic Post Editor when using HTML, too, so our posts turn out correctly.

Any other questions from anyone (Rebel Scummers or otherwise), feel free to reply with comments and feedback. ^_^

Thank God for this, I was having massive trouble with the HTML code for my post in Rebel Scum, that was until Alex kindly told me that there weren't supposed to be any spaces between the code. The new code should help those of us who are still learning how to use HTML to perhaps mess around a little with HTML experiments of out our outside Rebel Scum.

REVISED EPISODE GUIDE
EPISODE IV ?Alderaan?
EPISODE V ?Desert of the Twin Suns?
EPISODE VI ?Striking Back?

EPISODE I ?The Man Behind the Myth?

EPISODE II ?Korriban?

EPISODE III ?Twilight of the Old Republic?
EPISODE VII ?The Might of the Imperial Navy?
EPISODE VIII ?The Forest Moon?
EPISODE IX ?The Fall of an Empire?
EPISODE X ?Paradise Regained??
Just dropping in to let everyone know I've revised the Episode Guide. Please make note of the changes and adjust accordingly. I feel I've tightened the focus of the RPG considerably, and the new Episode titles will be accompanied by Episode plot guides when said Episode is drawing near. As before, any questions can be asked here or over AIM, but here is preferred.

Also, Boba Fett has been granted first post for this new post cycle in Alderaan, and I've revised the post order, as well.

The order (for this post cycle) is the following:

Shinmaru

Shy

Kane

Boba Fett

Siren
I understand we all have busy schedules (myself included), so the post order is never set in stone. If any have questions, comments, or concerns, please ask them here.

EDIT: It appears that Photobucket is no longer working, so I'm also attaching a new HTML text file. Nothing is changed regarding our post areas.
