Oh No! I've been duped!

After many a year shopping on the net, I got past the notion that anything I didn't expect would happen. Now that I am proven wrong, I'm ultra upset!

I had not wanted to spend the money involved with owning Final Fantasy XI, but my best friend convinced me to change my mind. So I went to my old friend, Ebay, to see if I could get a better price. I did. Thirtyfive dollars cheaper than it would have normally cost me; heck, I paid as soon as I won. That was Aug. 17th. I still don't have my game, but my money has been gone for quite some time.

I tried to contact the seller multiple times and have finally made my claim. So tell me: Has this happened to any of you? If yes, what happened and how long before everything was resolved. If no, is this something you ever worry about.

Share your internet horror stories here folks.

Yeah dude i would never trust ebay man. Alot of people on ebay cant be trusted and alot of the stuff on ebay if its video or game related are proably pirate copies.
Dagger IX1 once gave me some good advice to never look on ther again and i havnt. Dude you should try and get incontact with some of the ebay officals and sort it out.

So far, I haven't had any issues from Ebay. You have to look at the people's feedback responses and see if they are to be trusted. Really, that's the only way to do it. I am skeptical sometimes, especially since I started using PayPal, but we'll see how things go and if the item I just won gets here this week.

Ebay is fantastic. I have had very few problems as a buyer and a seller on ebay by just paying attention to the people I deal with. Sellers that change their name a lot or have just started are to be avoided. One time a kid bought something from me and never responded til 2 weeks later he said he was grounded.

Ebay is also not as good as it used to be. Since it exploded, there are more sellers just looking to make oney rather than unload stuff that they don't want. People sell things at cost and it basically ruins the idea of an auction. I think 90% of the auctions I look at are like that now and it takes the fun and value out of it.

You know, there is a very simple solution to the problems you run into with things like Ebay... don't use it. If you're afraid of getting ripped off or whatnot, it's probably better to just go find it at a store and buy it. I've never had problems with Ebay simply because I don't use it. Sure, it's fun to look at the things they have on there occasionally, but I normally don't care to actually make a bid. You just have to realize that there are weirdos out there that just take the money and run. Or, there is always the fact that they don't give the thing to you in good condition, they may just make it all shiny and pretty for the picture or whatever.
So, really, that's never been a big issue with me. But perhaps if you try contacting the seller and ask what's going on and if you've already tried that, well, to bad. And if you do end up getting it after a little persistance, then, yay.

I've bought a few things off ebay and I have recieved every single piece of merchandise I ordered. Im not saying you guys are lying (Which im sure you aren't, there are some real pricks who abuse the system), but im saying everyone has different experiences with ebay, since it all depends on who you are buying from. Like QA said, you have to check to see if people approve of them, or have had issues, with the seller you are buying from. I never bought things from anyone who apparently has had some problems before, I also don't buy anything from people who are new sellers on the ebay market. Half the time they are people looking to make a quick buck. That's why I stick to the ones with 1000+ ratings and/or those Power-Seller Awards. Those guys can be trusted. Plus, I almost always got them within a day or two of winning the bid. :D

I've been using eBay for years and I don't think I've had any problems with it when I've won auctions. The only problems I have had have been through selling- some people have a habit of bidding and not paying for things, which is awkward because it means I have to re-list it once I'm sure they're actually not going to pay up.

But then, if they do, it's their tough luck.

I know there have been problems, though- some people are incredibly unreliable, and really all you need to do is check their feedback and see if others have had problems. Another thing to do is check where they're sending it from- if you don't specify a shipping type, it can be shipped ground mail which, to other countries, can take 6-8 weeks. And there's the added pothole of some country's postal systems being disgustingly shoddy. So it might not be their fault. I've been lucky so far in that out of the many internet orders I've made, I've only lost two packages, one of which was replaced fairly quickly. It takes time building up experiences with who's best, but it becomes easier to work out the reputable ones from the bad eggs.

The thing which annoys me about eBay is that they don't bother to take down anime bootlegs unless an actual licensor (i.e. Bandai or ADV) registers a complaint. Ordinary members' comments are, by and large, swept aside or ignored. If you're familiar with how the site works and know what to avoid, it's not terribly difficult to avoid getting screwed. However, I can't personally justify supporting a company that basically allows huge quantities of bootlegs to slip straight through the cracks.

My opinion is upside-down. Everyone I know that has used eBay, has hd no problems at all. But me, I've have had nothing but problems.

Well not me, my mum. She's ordered two things off eBay, and has never received them, but she's lost all the money. I really don't know what to expect whenever we order something from eBay. except to expect that we won't get what we ordered.

I have had a pretty good experience overall with ebay. I don't try and sell much anymore, 'cause it seems that noone wants the crap I have anyway lol. I usually only buy comics from ebay and I have recieved every issue I have ordered in the condition it was advertised as...in pretty good time too. Only but one, however, but that was the dozy postman's fault (seriously if something has 'do not bend' written all over it its not an invitation to bend it in half and shove it through the letterbox)

That's the thing. This guy was a powerseller, 99% positive rating, and whatnot. He's very lucky that I don't live anywhere near VA. I'd crush his spine for crossing me. But, otherwise I had have no problem at all any of my ebay transactions. This should be a good measure of quick they handle problems. I'm not too fond of paypal, but they will get in my good graces if this situation is handled in timely manner. Ebay doesn't really seem like they are really interested in helping me because I have tried every single measure yet (my claim is in, but I haven't made one on the IFCC). Has anyone here ever filed a paypal claim? How long do they usually take?

You know, I'd love to be playing FFXI right now..........
