Dagger
I was sort of shocked that I couldn't find any threads about this film... if any of you has encountered one in the past, just PM me with the link. The original Ghost in the Shell was a Mamoru Oshii movie which did rather poorly in Japan but went on to become one of the best-known anime in North America. It was later followed by a critically acclaimed television show, Stand Alone Complex, that revolved around the same set of characters while disregarding the events of the film. Innocence, on the other hand, is a direct sequel to the 1995 movie. Both the series and the first movie are excellent anime in their own right, though they may appeal to different people. I'm going to go see Innocence sometime later today. Licensed by Dreamworks' Go Fish Pictures, it opened in twenty-seven cities on Friday. More theaters and cities will be added in the coming weeks. So far Innocence has received extremely mixed reviews--by most accounts it's markedly more philosophical and verbally convoluted than its prequel. Since the main character is Bateau (Batou?), people who want to watch Motoko in action may feel somewhat disappointed. I'm mainly excited about the visuals, which will definitely be fantastic. So, is anyone else planning to see this? ~Dagger~
Delta
Hmm... the Stand Alone Complex was somehow related to the movie.
The Puppet Master arc was concluded in the last parts of the series. I remember Motoko saying something about "the Puppet Master incident 6 years ago". Funny thing is, GITS:SAC was released in 2002, exactly 6 years after the 1996 movie was released!
On the basis of screenshots posted practically everywhere (37,100 results from Google!), I say it's a lovely piece of eye candy. Animation-wise, it looks very much like SAC. I wonder, is the broken cyborg on the poster Motoko? Love and Peace! :love2:
Jim_Hawking
I'll only say this, should Innocence ever get released where I live (Central Illinois) I'll be among the first to see it. Once I've seen it, I post a review with apprpriate spoiler coverings. Until then, I'm stuck with movies like Resident Evil: Apocolypse. :flaming:
lavonia
I've heard that it's good. I've seen the preview and it looks pretty interesting.
satan665
They're playing ads for it on TV here, but it didn't come out on last friday. I hope that it will relatively soon so I don't have to drive to Portland or something. I'm definitely planning on seeing it, the first movie was one of the forst anime's I had ever seen. I haven't watched the anime TV series yet, but its on my Netflix list so it'll come eventually. Its funny that this movie is supposed to be more philosophical then the last, I wonder if its worse than the second comic (manga). I read that issue by issue when it was coming out and it was super hard to understand. Especially reading parts of it at a time. I guess Shirow's style is pretty much crazy confusing plot and a lot of crotch-shots but I can't really understand why its good. I like it, but I don't know why exactly. LizerisCnh
I've read extensive interviews and coverage on the film but was never overly excited. I love that the original dialog is in ancient Japanese dialect. That's probably one of the most creative aspects of anime that I've seen thus far. I'm a fan of the original and won't be going out of my way to see Innocence, which is only a pseudo sequel to Ghost in the Shell which wasn't even correlated in Japan. I'll order it from a comic shop that I frequent, a year or two from now once the hype has died. If I had to choose, I'd be more interested in the [Stand Alone Complex PS2 title].
Sword Breaker
Bah, we dont get Anime movies that play in theaters here. The only one ever was CB:The Movie, and that showed once at a huge movie complex, which is one hour from my house, and got such a bad result, is not likly to show one ever again. Luckily, I can simply DL it assoon as it comes out on DVD... god i'm so damn cheap. Regardless, it is supposed to be a greatmovies, the visuals, and various other things are supposed to be awsom.
