Would you compare Guiliani to Mussolini?

The article about Mussolini and Rudolph Giuliani is from Oui magazine

1) Mussolini, a socialist in 1914, agreed with other Socialists that Italy should not join World War I. Several months later, he founded a pro-war group. Giuliani was a democrat before becoming a Republican.

2) Skillfully using his control over the press, Mussolini built up the legend of ?II Duce?, a man who was always right and could solve all the problems of politics and economics. By parading white collar suspects before the cameras of six o?clock news in handcuffs, Prosecutor Giuliani got a reputation for solving crime and political corruption.

3) Mussolini lost his first parliamentary election in 1919, then won on his second attempt. Giuliani lost the mayor?s race to David Dinkins in 1989 but beat him on his second try.

4) Mussolini made a pact with his archrival, Adolf Hitler. Giuliani hugged Al D?amato

5) When liberal gov?ts failed to stop the spread of anarchy, Mussolini was invited by King Victor Emanuel to form a government. After a riot in Crown Heights, Giuliani was endorsed by David Rockfeller.

6) Newspaper editors were chosen by Mussolini himself. Giuliani put Fox news on cable.

7) No one could practice journalism in Italy who did not possess a certificate of approval from Mussolini?s fascist party. Giuliani assigns press credentials to reporters.

Mussolini personally took over the army. Giuliani fired his police commissioner and oversaw the deployment of officers

9) Mussolini drew thousands to Piazza Venezia where everybody shouted ?Duke?. Giuliani filled City Hall Park with policemen who shouted ?Rudy?

10) During Mussolini?s dictatorship, Italy?s parliamentary system was demoralized and virtually abolished. Under Guliani, City Council members who didn?t endorse him were threatened with the loss of after-school programs in their districts.

11) Under Mussolini the trains ran on time. Under Giuliani, no one dares complain about rail service.

12) Mussolini was suspected of connections to fascist thugs who kidnapped and murdered an opposition leader. Giuliani is said to be instigating the relentless prosecution of a Yankee fan who ran on the field during the 1996 World Series with ?Rudy, kiss my ___? painted over his buttocks.

13) With the help of liberals in parliament, Mussolini installed a strict censorship policy. After winning the mayoralty with the liberal party endorsement, Rudy put up video cameras throughout the city.

14) Just before the Allied Forces reached Milan, Mussolini and his mistress were caught by the Italian partisans. Just before his reelection campaign, Giuliani was caught dining with his press secretary.

Thankfully Rudy isn't in power anymore, I never liked him. My impression of him was always as a power addicted mayor. I guess that immediately draws the same comparasins, though some of the examples are interesting and some are silly. I think that there are a few types of people in power (government) that are drawn to it and seem alike in that manner.

On another note, back when I was recording with my band (former) the producer had a big box of porno mags in his booth, including the magazine Oui. A local band named themselves Oui 73 based on the french porn from 1973. Is that the same magazine? :D

I've done my fair share of stretchy comparisons in the past, but this comparison is quite possibly the most ridiculous thing I've ever read in my life, and I've read quite a few utterly ludicrous comparative papers.

Just the notion of comparing Mussolini, who is a Fascist Dictator, to someone like Rudy Guiliani, who became NYC's savior after 9/11, should immediately tip you off that the comparison is bunk, lol.

This entire 14-point comparison is laughable, and the basis for those 14 points is ridiculous. The authors are trying to draw a strong comparison between totally innocent actions of Guiliani (the investigation into a baseball series streaker) and Mussolini's connection to Fascist thugs and mobsters? C'mon, lol.

The entire thing is either the biggest mistake ever written, or the worst excuse for satire I've ever read.

EDIT: To put it simply and bluntly, this comparison is like me arguing that ALF wasn't an alien.

I'd like to add a couple more points of comparison, just to strengthen the case:

15. Mussolini was Homo sapiens. Giuliani was... Homo sapiens.

16. Mussolini was bald. Giuliani is bald.

17. They're both Italian (right? Giuliani is Italian, right?)

18. Mussolini's last name ended with an 'i'. Giuliani's ends with--you guessed it!--an 'i'.

Seriously, if you think about it, they're totally the same person. In fact I'd go so far as to say that Giuliani is a result of secret Nazi cloning, which Mussolini was a test subject in.

Interesting, most interesting.

My son (Alex) has again pretty much already summed up what I was going to say, with enough time you could make it seem that Osama Bin-Laden and Bill Gates had similar characteristics. Yes there are similarities in their personal traits but it's a little difficult to prove that Guiliani was a Fascist dictator like Mussolini.

I recently found out that Mussolini was once shot in the nose but an Irish woman during one of his speeches in Rome, and they say the Irish had no involvement in WW2. As for Sciros's comments they are entirely too funny, I nearly died laughing when I read the final point, excellent stuff.
