The ancient Hall of the Sanctum of Etus had in the past days been cleared of all but the barest essentials to make room for the small council Arturios had established. The wizened old sage passed the perimeter of the sparsely furnished chamber. He had to admit, his queries had been far more successful than he had hoped. A Cathsheen, two Elves and a Human sat at the council fire of the sanctum, all chosen for there adventuring spirit, and their unique abilities and outlooks. There was Keira, by far the eldest of the group? in fact she was older than Arturios? but for an elf, such an age was still very much her prime. Her bow skill would be very helpful in the coming quest. To Keira?s Left, was the Cathsheen, Zaion. This quiet yet fiery young cat-girl was the youngest of the group, but Arturios did not doubt that she would prove as important a member as the elder members of the team. As a whole the Cathsheen where world renowned for their unsurpassed agility, and this young girl, Arturios hoped, would prove to be no exception. The only other human in the room was Orick Lathsfeather, the most ?battle hardened? in appearance, Arturios had to hold back a grin as the poor man was struggling at being next to the young Zaion, if something was not done the poor lad would be babbling the entire quest, with two young women near him for an extended period. Lastly was the Elf Kyohen, at 15 years of age he was young compared to Keira, but he wore the signs of an accomplished duelist, and a keen tactician.

Arturios ambled over to the fire and sat across from this group of young adventurers and smiling began to explain why he had called them together.

?Greetings my good Adventurers, you have been called here for one reason, the Removal of the Wraithwind from our world. I am certain you have questions you want answered, so, my dear friends ask. And I will answer as I may. ? but first please take these voidstone amulets?? at this he produced a set of four small black stone amulets and handed one to each of the adventurers ?Now ask what you will? consider this the time of planning for the journey ahead?

Just then the great doors of the Sanctum swung open, revealling the gruff Sangin, captain of the Etus Guard, along with a two others, a female Human, and a male Cathsheen

"Lord Arturios" Sangin said bowing slightly "It seems the Guild hall has been withholding on us yet again. I was just now informed that these two here are also part of the council. I present Sir Reaf Jaggur, and Miss Shero." Bowing again the captain turned to leave

"hold a moment old friend!" called Arturios, "I need Voidstone amulets for the late comers, please retrieve them" Sangin nodded and left. "Now," Arturios continued "Welcome! you two please have a seat; as I said to those already assembled now is the time to ask what you will..."

"No Questions? then I willl explain the plan." Arturios declared shaking his head. "the Wraithwind, originates from a portal far to the north in the dwarven realm of Kithria. As you may know, the Winds make travel difficult, their is no promise I can give as to wether a city on your map will be there when you arive. however, as for your own safety... those amulets, voidstone its called, resist the Wraithwind and thus protect you from its effects."

"If you want my advice Id say head straight north until your reach Windbreaker peak, this mountain is where Voidstone is mined, so the settlement there should be protected. when you arive ask for the head of the mining camp. He will provide you with the location of the next checkpoint on your journey to the Heart of the Torrent."

"When you arrive at the Portal, you must figure out a way to close it, and end this madness once and for all."

Arturios stood leaning heavily on his staff, "I will go with you as far as Windbreaker... their is someone I need to see. before we leave we should get horses from the guild hall livery" and with that the wizened sage walked out of the sdanctum, leaving the six adventurers alone in the great hall

Zaion stood and streched and then walked over to the male newcomer and said"I'm sorry Idid not catch your name what was it? I'm Zaion by the way." During this time she had been fumbling with the voidstone. When the man did not answer, she turend to Keira and said "so you are an elf what are you 53?"

Shero walked quietly to a corner in the room and leaned against the wall, putting her hand gently on the hilt of her sword. She surveyed the others that had gathered.

"I thought there would be more of us. I'm not saying it isn't possible, but seeing the lot of you...isn't too reassuring." Shero frowned, waiting for a reply from one of the other members.

"Well then, what are we standin around for? Lets go!" Kyohen begged, rushing towards the door. The others simply shrugged and followed him towards the door. These people had no knowledge of each other whatsoever, and Kyohen didnt particularly care. As the doors flung open, the warriors quietly walked out into the wasteland that was left, after the wreckage of the Wraithwing. As they walked, sudden holes would appear in the ground, where the earth had been sucked into the winds. Finally someone broke the silence.......

Um yeah it is very hard to walk around these holes. They are everywhere
and I wish it wasn't even there. My life has been very long and I wish that I wasn't going to spend part of my life trying to stop some stupid portal.Allthough I would do anything to save millions of lifes. That is only because I have made a packt to not kill a single person out of selfdefence.

Arturios turned to the the group behind him, "The amulets you hold protect against the Wraithwind, therefore those of you who do not yet have one stay close to those who do. Also my dear Zaion if you hold the stone and concentrait its field will extend for several feet around you, wich should solve your pothole problem" he then turned to Keira "and you madam I must remind you it was your race that created that damned prison in the first place!" Turning a corner of a ruined building Arturios frowned heavily "well it would seem we have a slight problem, the bridge to the stables has been hit by the winds, we will have to take the canal works insteed" With a flick of his wrist the old sage produced a sizeable piece of voidstone, and placed it on the tip of his staff. turning southward he began to decend a rather steep and slime stairwell to the canals and tunnels beneath the city. "the canals are lined with voidstone so their is no need to fear it colapsing... but be on your guard, their may be wraithbeasts below" the old man called over his shoulder

The adventurers continued to wade slowly through the canals when there was a sudden growling noise coming from around a bend.
"W-what the hell was that?" Zaion stuttered. Kyohen grunted and grabbed the handle of his sword. He turned toward his teammates to see who he thought would be the first to attack. Keira was the only other elf, so she immidiatly gained all of his trust. As the growling grew close, many of the adventurers drew their weapons. Some of them mearly stepped back.
"Arturios, you had better get to the back so you arent harmed," Orik stated, looking out for his fellow human.
About that time the growling noise stopped and two shodow-wolves turned the corner, ready to pounce.
"Thats it?" Kyohen asked. Suddenly 20 more emerged behind it.
Zaion was quick to speak, "Ya had ta ask."

From his position behind the others Arturios spoke. "Shadow wolves?! This does not boad well for us. These creatures are in the service Baaloth-Karrh, If they are here in Etus, I fear we may find the whole of Kaydaeryn is overrun... If that is indeed the case, our journey to wind breaker will be tougher than I invisioned." Arturios turned towards kyohen and Orik "They may be wolves but they are still just shadows, use fire, or some kind of light to keep them from swarming you as you fight" then the old sage muttered "Im getting to old for this..."

Reaf had kept mostly to himself the whole walk, not feeling very comfortable with so many people he did not know. He looked at his Voidstone. This black hunk of rock is going to protect me from the Wraithwind? he wondered silently, How? But he shook away his doubts, deciding that since everyone else (and especially the old man Arturios) seemed to trust in the Voidstones, he should too.

In the tunnel, as the shadow-wolves appeared, Reaf faded back a bit, to make more room for those with only melee weapons, and loaded his sling with one of his deadly lead balls. At this range, it would be easy to split the skulls of the oncoming wraithbeasts. He began twirling it, and searched the mass of snarling, dark-colored canines with his eyes, looking for the leader. It was difficult to pick out the individual beasts in the badly lit tunnel, and, Reaf reminded himself, the leader of the pack may not be there, it may be watching from somewhere else. Just then, one of the beasts darted forward, Reaf fired off the heavy ball, and reloaded without looking to see if the leathal projectile had hit at all. He heard a pained yelp, and he looked up. He couldn't tell if his ball had hit, but he knew one of the elves had; the bold shadow-wolf had a feathered shaft sticking out of its neck. The wolves seemed to draw back, to observe their mortally wounded comrade's death struggles, and then, as a group, they attacked.

Taking from Raef's lead, Kyohen decided to charge.
"ATTACK!" He screamed, and began running towards the pack. The melee fighters charged into the pack, while the ranged fighters stood back, keeping to fire and projectile attacks. Kyohen raised his sword above his shoulder and came down slammed right through the wolves jaw. The jaw sprawled across the ground, dissolving as it went.
"The limbs they lose dissolve in the light, any hit could be fatal." At that moment, another few packs appeared behind the first. Kyohen began to clice and dice through the pack. One of them knocked his sword from his hand, so he drew an arrow from his quiver and drove it into the mutts temple. He scrambled for his sword, when a shadow wolf jumped on his back.....

With a sickening crack Arturios brought the top of his staff down on the head of the wolf on Kyohen's back. the old man smirked as the voidstone tip glowed dully and much to the others surprise the wolf was seemingly torn apart from the inside. offering his hand to the young elf he said with a serious expresion "Voidstone acts like a sponge to Wraithwind... so creatures born of it are vunerable to the stone's powers" After the young elf was back on his feet Arturios turned to survey the area as the others fought. His eyes narowed as he turned to face behind him and came face to face with another group of wolves just turning the corner of the canal fifty yards back. "so... they are behind us as well? It seems we are in for a hard fight..."

"alright, Zaion and Kyohen, you 2 take the smaller pack behind us, the rest take the larger one in front." Arturos explained.

Zaion instantly took off towards the pack ready for some cat versus dog action, she flung out her claws and began tearing them apart one by one. Kyohen loaded three arrows in his bow and fired them sideways, hitting one in the eye and two in the chest. Then a wolf came running towards him, and he whiffed its head off with his blade. He noticed that Zaion was making easy work of the wolves with her claws.

"Um... how about I just let her handle them and Ill help with the front," Kyohen asked. But it didnt matter because at that moment the last one was killed. They turned to the other battle

"Cathsheens in front" Arturos called......

Shero stood off to the side, her sword still wrapped in its sheath. Her arms folded across her chest, she saw no point in fighting the wolves, they just kept coming. Was this a test for them to prove their skills; if it was it was a poor test.

Shero reached into her pocket and ran her fingers across the smooth oval shaped amulet. There was far too much voidstone around, but it wasn't enough to protect all those out to seal the Wraithwind. If she used the power held within the onix amulet she could vanquish the wolves, but it wasn't worth the risk of the others, even if they weren't the greatest of fighters. At least they were willing to give there lives to save the world.

Shero turned to see a wolf staring at her. She drew its eyes in and never moved her head, the beast freezing in its place. It could sense the amulet's power sealed inside and was too afraid to come near her. She watched a featherd arrow fly threw the dark cave and strike the beast, killing it almost instantly. The power in the amulet was great, but was no under her control at all. It was just a wild and rogue as the rest of the magic here.

Shero turned her head to catch the old man looking at her. She must have been a disappointment to him, she wasn't even trying to help. But Shero didn't want to waste energy on these minner creatures, especially if they came across something far more powerful.

Slowly, and with a visible limp Arturios made his way toward the young mage Shero. He could scense she was troubled over something, but had no idea what. striking another of the wolves over the head with his staff, Arturios ambled up beside her. He seemed to be lost in though for a moment before his eyes grew wide, "Ah... you have a spell stone on you don't you girl?" He studied her reaction and nodded glumly "You are right to fear using it here child... but, perhaps it can be of use to us in another way in this fight?" He paused to strike a wolf that had aproched too close "Did you not see that wolf falter as you touched the amulet? perhaps we can use the amulets aura to paralize our foes with fear" He kicked away the corpse of a wolf and the turned towards Shero once more, "but to get enough power... tell me, Shero, what happens to the water when you wring out the sponge?" with that he eyed the other amulet around her neck, the voidstone, wich was glowing dully from its proxcimity to the onix jewel...

He then smirked and gave her a piercing stare "And do not forget, where there are shadow wolves..." the rest of his statement stopped short, as a roar echoed through the narow run of the canals, and a hulking beast lumbered into view from around a corner ahead. Its serpent like head was covered in thick black hair that hung wildly from either side. its body looked like some abhorent cross between a gorilla and a lion, and its sinuos tail resembled that of a monkey's. it was still a good hundred feet down the canal, but it was lumbering methodically closer, the wolves where swarmed around its feet. Arturios laughed dryly "As I was saying where there are shadow wolves, there is always a Shadow demon controling them"

"Whoa, that thing is big!" Zaion commented to Reaf, both busy making short work of the swarming shadow-wolves.

Earlier, Reaf had hesitated to move to the front ranks to battle the pack, thinking he could still do damage with his sling, but realized that between the darkness of the tunnel and the darkness of the wolves, he was having difficulty picking targets from a distance. So he put away his sling, drew his spear from the shoulder belt, and charged the oncoming wolves.

At first, the work had been easy, simply slashing, stabbing, kicking, and striking any wolves that dared to come close. Neither of the Cathsheens worried about stopping all the wolves, knowing full well that the humans and elves would be far from helpless with their own weapons and skills. Zaion glanced back once to see Orik easily beheading a leaping wolf while the elven bows twanged to score direct hits on two wolves in the front. But then the Shadow demon showed up, and things promised to get much more complicated.

"Press forward, both of you!" Kyohen called from the back.

"Why?" Reaf called back, taking the time to slash a wolf with his spear, then reversing the action to land a stunning blow with the handle on the head of a second. "We'll just run into the Shadow demon that much faster!"

"The tunnel narrows up ahead. If we can trap it in the narrow section, we'll have an easier job of killing it."

Reaf looked ahead. The narrow section was about 50 feet ahead, the demon was about the same distance away from the opening. "We'd better move fast," Reaf commented to Zaion.

"No time like the present," she replied, and leaped into the crowd of dark bodies, now wary of the deadly pair. Reaf took a moment to place his spear back in its sheath, since this close-quarter combat would make his spear very ineffective, and jumped right after her. This was a job for claws.

Shero turned her head to watch the others for a brief moment. She was impressed by the team work that was accuring in this cave. It brought a slight smile to her face before she looked back at Arturios.

"I would help, I really would. But my skills are of no use here. I cannot use the knives that lay hiden within my coat, my sword is far too long for such narrow spaces and people and..." she allowed her sentence to trail off as Arturios took out another wolf with his staff. "I dare not use my amulet for fear of harming others. The shadow wolves may fear its power, but a beast of that size?" she nodded her head to the shadow demon the others were trying to trap.

Before Arturios could reply, the cave gave a great tremble as the demon began to protest the idea of the others plan. But for whatever reason, it did not stop them. They plunged on, continuing to follow Kyohen's suggestion. So brave and loyal to each other and they had just met. Was it because of the mixture of the races or was it the hope of sealing the Wraithwind? All she knew was she wasn't being much help to them now.

Arturios nodded and turned from the girl "I understand, And I do not think you a coward, Shero. There is nothing wrong with realizing your skllls are not safe to use here" With that he turned and walked to Keira "Pardon me, but would you mind giving me one of your arrows, lady?"" he then turned to Orik, "keep these wolves off me... I have an idea..."

"That's easy for him to say"Orik told Keirra
"Guess you got to live with what he says"Keirra said while aming at the shadow beast and shooting.
But her arrows failed by just plainly bouncing off of the beast. She could not understand why they were doing that, but then she remembered the voidstones and tried again. This time striking the beast but not killing it.
Watching Arturios as he tried his tacktic of course not knowing what it was he just kept getting closer and closer.

As the Demon aproached ever closer, Arturios withdrew a small knife, hardly suitible for combat from his cloaked robes and split the arrow down the shaft about one third of its length. Then he withdrew a small metal rod with a golden tip and lashed it to the arrow using the split ends to hold it in place. Finaly Arturios pulled out a set of flints and whilst holding the arrow with his teeth, he struck the flints near the tip of the metal rod. There was a hiss and the tip burst in to a glowing flame that drove back the shadows around the group for a good ten feet. "Sun rod" Arturios explaned whilst handing the arrow with its new flaming tip back to Keira, "Its a type of torch that uses a metal for fuel, burns bright as sunlight... and effects shadow creatures as if it were sunlight, they burst into flame on contact. So hit the damn thing between the eyes. and my dear Keira you had better be as good a shot as they say you are, cause thats the only sunrod I have..."

Shero sunk to the floor at the sight of the sunrod, sheilding her eyes with her arms. It wasn't the fact that it was the sun, or an imatation of the sun. But the meaning it held in her memory. The awful shrieks that came from the beast that was struck by such an arrow was burned into her head. If only she could use her sword or even...no...she couldn't. She would have to indure the horrific screams and be reminded of the past she longed to forget.

Shero curled into a ball against the wall, trembling as if she was about to die herself. It felt like it was going to take forever for her to finally endure the sound.

Standing staring at the sunrod finally Keirra got her mind cleared enough to find that everyone was struggling to hold the monster back.
"Take the shot now"she herd in the distance.
Finally she took the shot and hit the beast right between the eyes and killed it.After that everyone killed of the rest of the Wraithbeast and started asking alot of questions.

OOC: My most profuse appologies to everyone. *throws himself at Daemos's feet and begins groveling* PLEASE DON'T KILL ME!!!!!!

Earlier in the fight:

As Reaf and Zaion approached the narrows, the fighting became more difficult. The shadow wolves started simply hurling themselves at the two fighters, trying everything to slow their advance. The demon also broke into a lumbering run, barely faster than his walk, but perhaps fast enough to move into the wider tunnel before he could be trapped in the narrow area.

It came down to a race, the Cathsheens literally cutting their way through the horde of shadow wolves, not even taking the time to ensure the minions' demise, continuing on, trusting in the others to get rid of the wounded. Orik, Arturios, and Kyohen dispatched the wounded, with Shero and Keirra bringing up the rear. The two Cathsheens, although suffering from several nasty cuts, never slowed until they reached the narrow part of the tunnel, with the demon a scant ten feet away.

"Hope this works," Reaf muttered under his breath, not realizing he had voiced his thoughts until he saw Zaion nod in agreement. There were fewer shadow wolves now and they seemed to be drawing back so their master could deal with the intruders, so Reaf drew his spear again.

The demon came on hard, but slow, his first hammer-like strike aimed at Zaion. Zaion jumped back, while Reaf charged forward, hoping to score a hit while the huge beast's defences were open. He did drive his spear into the monster's belly, but with little effect. The monster hissed in surprise, and brought its extended arm across, intending to smash the impertenant cat-person into the wall of the tunnel. Reaf did the last thing the monster expected; he dove right at him, rolled under him, and came up with a backhand slash to the demon's right knee with his claws. Enraged, the Shadow demon wrapped his monkey-like tail around Reaf's midsection and lifted him straight up, while aiming a strike at Orik, who had moved forward to take Reaf's place.
