Arturios sat brooding again, the danger had risen, they had fought a member of Baaloth's rear guard... and... He paled, DAMN... he should have realized it sooner the Ogre had a commander who will ofcourse notice its abscence they had to move now! "EVERYONE! GET UP! WE MUST LEAVE NOW! IT WILL NOT BE LONG UNTIL THEY COME IN SEARCH OF THE OGRE!" Arturios bellowed as he scrambled to pack his things. On a whim arturios searched out with his mind in the direction the ogre hd come from, one mile, then two, three... Arturios paled and quickened his pace... A Shadow-Kai was coming this way... "MOVE IT! A SHADOW-KAI IS COMING!"

Shero caught her breath in her throat. If this shadow-kai was the orge's commander then it had to have some deal of power within it. She did admit that must of the fighters with them were strong and good in their own manner, but they didn't work as one. This was going to cause problems with any great monsters they came across and then Baaloth. She looked about as she began to tear down her tent. Every one was in a semi-panic and working alone. This wasn't going to work. She hurried, strapped her pack on and ran over to another person having diffculty with their gear.

"Here, let me help."

Kyohen looked over to see Shero helping people with their tents. "Pheh, I already packed my things and these guys are still confused, jeez" he thought. Arturos sensed his anger, so he sent a telepathic messege, "dammit Kyohen, stop griping and help them out!" Kyohen got particularly angry, "senile old man," "I heard that!". Kyohen quickly stammered over to help Kamui who was kicking and swearing at his tent. Just as the last of them finished, three ogres suddenly burst out from the trees. The adventurers took off as fast as they could. The three large beasts loafing after them. Suddenly the adventurers saw a large beast flying, off in the distance. When they had run for what seemed like ten whole minutes, and could not see the ogres behind them, it suddenly became apparent what was ABOVE them.
An Imogi, or baby dragon.

Reaf glanced back for a moment as they continued to run. He could no longer see or hear the ogres, but he doubted that they would give up the chase so easily. Just then, Reaf noticed the baby dragon heading straight for them from the sky. Reaf had not noticed the winged being in the distance, he was more concerned with keeping an eye on the pursuing ogres. The Imogi was still a ways away, but it was closing the distance awfully fast.

Even if the dragon isn't in the service of Baaloth, it is still a danger to us, Reaf thought. It will either eat us itself, or lead the Shadow-Kai straight to us! And since it's winged, it will be able to follow us no matter where we run. "Arturios, shouldn't we make a run for the forest? The Imogi will not be able to follow us through the thick trees, and will lose sight of us, too."

Arturios turned back to look at the others, "forest? maybe, but that depends a good deal on the dragon's color." Arturios turned to face ahead once more, "Cause if it is a red hatchling, it will most likely just set the forest ablaze to flush us out. I would not enter the trees until I know what type of Dragon we are dealing with." Arturios brought a hand to his forhead as he ran, his mind reaching out to the Dragons to try and discern its type. the Image came to him, Flames, and the Sun. Arturios almost laughed at their good fortune "Its a Gold! a metalic! thank the gods"

"That's a good thing?" Reaf asked while turning to look at the hatchling

"Very, metalics are opposed to Baaloth! look!" at that moment the Gold hatchling turned and dove on the aproaching ogres burning them with its firy breath "Well it seems we have some help my friends" arturios laughed

The Ogres staggered and milled in confusion as the golden dragon swooped in to blast them again, one Ogre was lit completely ablaze already and the others were retreating back towards the wooded thicket from whence they had come. The young dragon gave chase flying low over the clowd cover and setting the dry tender of the trees on fire. It then turned, and wheeling towards the party, burst forward with almost unimaginable speed. It landed next to Arturios, leaning its head towards the old psion as if it where a large cat or dog. Now that they could see it up close its size was surprising. Its body was the size of a large lion, and it looked just as streamlined. Its golden scales glistened in the morning sun. As Arturios reached a hand up to scratch the yound dragons head he adressed the group. "We'll Stop here for now, Keira, Zaion, you two go and scout out the other forest..." He points to the northwest, "Jarod, you take the craigy reagion to the north. Reaf, you and Shero get a camp fire going Im going to see if I cant convince this friend of ours here to to help us figure out a way through the siege." Arturios turned toward hatchling his eyes glowing a deep blue the Hatchling's eyes soon began to glow a firey yellow in responce. "A symbiote eh? interesting..." the old man said...

Jarod slowly began to remember why he didn't like traveling in groups. He glanced down at Zaion, sighing slightly. "I've learned to survive. No matter what it takes. And as far as my blades go,...thats something you don't need to worry about."

He glanced up at hearing Arturios command. He fought back the urge to say anything back, just nodded. Without another word, or another thought of the dragon that had joined them, Jarod began to head north.

Arturios sat down next to the Hatchling and began to dig through his pack, apparently looking for something. A few moments later he produced a hand full of gems, rubies and emeralds, and offered them to the Dragon as one would offer a dog a piece of meat. With a gutteral chirp the gold Imogi responded in kind taking the gems into its mouth and eating them ravenously "Its a good thing you Metalics eat gems..." Arturios said smiling.

The dragon suddenly turned its head to the side, seemed to stare off into space for a moment then it turned to the group remaining around the old sage and... spoke in the gutteral tongue of dragon-kind "Verthichahurthi Persvek Vignarixen Vur Iejiraryte. Turalisj kurikvargach Arux. Kotharirlym tour Munthrekloreat. Austrat ekes Verthichahurthi" Arturios Started "What?! A Blood-war? By the gods, what is Baaloth after?" Arturios said, obviously deeply disturbed by whatever the dragon had spoken. While the others gathered to ask Arturios what the dragon had said it spoke again, but this time the Eyes glowed with a bluish light... and this time the voice spoken in the common tongue, but it was not the dragons voice... "My Host is right, Arturios, we must get to the mountain, but not today, we must wait until the rising of the new moon" Arturios stared in shock, "Phaelos? you have a new host body I see... but that is three days time! what do we do until then? the dragon grunted in its own voice before the Symbiote spoke again "I... Do not know..."

Kyohen listened to the paracite and wondered what the dragon had said. The words, "bloody war" confused, scared, shocked, and surprised him. The rising of the new moon was 3 days away.... but what would happer to the mines that were infected with shadow-kai. Surely they were doomed.

"Something aint right here, Arturos. If we wait three days the mines will be destroyed." Kyohen explained.

"Yes, thats what has me puzzled. I dont know what we should do..."

"I say we go anyway, how do we know we can trust the imogi?"

Arturios turned to face the others of his party, "Mountain fortress in ash-fire and blood-war. A great massacre in the Valley. ?Demon enemy? wants human death. Fly to mountain Fortress." Arturios paused "thats what the dragon said, near enough at any rate, and as for the Symbiote, well..." Arturios sighed, "Thats just it Kyohen, the Imogi is the host of an Ilithid, and a promiment one at that. Everyone, Meet Phaelos, the owner of the windbreaker mines, and the person resposable for the voidstones that hang around your neck. but the three day wait does worry me. Why do we need to wait that long my old friend?" Phaelos seemed to stare sadly at the ground for a few moments before speaking "It would be impossible to enter the mountain by the main paths, the Sinhar have barracaded the paths and with the help of the forces of Bahamut are holding the summit and the mines. But the town in the valley below was massacred by Baaloths forces. My Host, the heir of the Takida clan of the Gold dragons offered himself as a new host when my original body was felled by one of Baaloths newest weapons, cross-bred dragons, both red and black... As for the three days... the Vault doors of the old Ithilium tunnels are now the only path up the mountain not blocked by Baaloths army, but the door only opens on the first day of the lunar month, the rising of the new moon." He paused and the dragon host made a series of gutteral noises that seemed to indicate it was talking to the Symbiote "Yes, if all goes well his famliy will be here by dawn tomorrow to fly us to the old Dwarven encampment. and before you ask young, Kyohen, the dwarven encampment is in a box canyon that is not accesable save by air..." Phaelos sighed "Oh for the return of the dwarven airships... at any rate, those are my reasons, you may deside what you will." Phaelos's host bowed politely and the curled up to sleep.

Shero looked at the gold dragon that lay contently on the ground. It was beautiful, gleaming in the light sun light. Shero took her eyes off of the dragon and looked about the crowd.

"Hey, Arturious. I have an idea. Just a thought of course and if any one disagrees that's fine I suppose. But I think, while we wait here we should work on becoming a team instead of indiviuals. We're all talented in our own ways, but shouldn't we put those skills together?"

Shero looked about the crowd again, waiting for someone to began complaining or agreeing with what she had just said. She left her graze on the older man.

"I agree with Kamui's assessment, as far as it goes," Reaf stated as he set down an armload of firewood. He glanced at the sleeping dragon he had earlier assumed was an enemy, and smiled to himself. Although the dragon/symbiote had undoubtedly saved their lives, he had also made it nearly impossible to find firewood.

Reaf turned back to the group. "We face a united enemy with overwhelming force on its side. If we are disunited, then we stand no chance at all. It's very much like fighting the Wargs," he finished meditatively, refering to the intelligent, wolf-like pack hunters that were known to attack isolated settlements.

Arturios looked up and laughed lightly, "Ah but you've already taken the first steps in that direction. You came to an agreement as a group... and that is the central point of an adventuring party. As for working in combat as a team... that is a matter of determining each persons fighting style and using it acordingly." He paused and grabed a stick from the fire, putting out the flame on the end he began to write in the dirt "First you need to chose forward scouts, for that pick someone who is'nt comfortable in groups, as they will be alone for extended periods. Our friend Jarod is the obvious choice for that. Second co-ordinate your ranged attackers, Keirra and reaf for example, in possitions where they can lay down their firepower unhindered. third set up your main-line fighters and skirmishers, those who are agile should be skirmishers our zaion for instance, and the others should focus on concentrated attacks." Arturios finished drawing the diagram on the groud... "Of course all this requires a co-ordinator skilled in tactical knowledge, Kyohen is rumored to be a prodegy in that regard. thats the basics of working as a team, now you just have to learn to work in that fashion as if it were second nature"

"Maybe we should run drills, or something of that nature. Have a false attacker. Then we could put the idea into motion and, for lack of better words, practice." Shero piped up. Looking around hoping she didn't over step her bounds.

When no one replied or said a thing, Shero shrank to the ground.

"Not only will it be good practice for the group, it'll also be good for the 'attackers.' We may have to fight a group of enemies singly or in pairs in the future," Reaf pointed out.

"Hang on. First, we'll need a referee to keep track of the proceedings, tally any casualties, that sort of thing," said Kyohen. "Arturios, would you mind taking on this responsibility?"

Well, he is the obvious choice, Reaf thought. Besides, Arturios said himself that he might leave the party at Windbreaker. We'll need to get used to getting along without him.

Arturios nodded "Of course Kyohen, just remember, we are getting rides from the hatchlings clan in the morning... so dont attack any dragons you see while training... wouldn't want to kill your own rides."

Arturios grabed a piece of parchment and a charcoal piece from the embers and looked at the group, "So how are we breaking up the teams?"

Jarod had wandered just out of sight of the encampment to clear his mind. He knew there was nothing in this direction...and he was almost positive that Arturious had known that as well. He made use of this "break" though. He settled against one of the many rock formations that dotted the landscape, and closed his eyes. The voidstone around his neck seemed heavier than before, and it was becoming more of a hindrance than anything. He hadn't encountered anything thus far that the voidstone would have any use against. The others may have needed them before he arrived...but the enemies he had seen or heard of were either in service to creatures of the Wraith or much too powerful to even begin to stand against...such as the Shadow-Kai.

He placed his right hand to his chest, over the spot that concealed the voidstone. As he looked down, he noticed that the gem in his armlet grew cloudier still. He had never knew what power the armlet held...if any...and he definitely did not know what this signified. Maybe he'd ask Arturious when he had a moment.

Jarod pulled himself upright and began to head back to the encampment. He arrived back just as Arturious asked about teams.

"What teams..." Jarod asked.

Arturios looked up, "Ah Jarod... The group wanted to practice acting as a group, so they plan on sparing in a manor of speaking... Oh while im thinking of it... you all might want to let me see your voidstones for a moment. As im sure some of you noticed, the stone gets heavier over time. This is because the stone mearly acts as a sponge-absorbing the aura of shadow around it and converting it to psionic energy. the more energy it absorbs the heavier it becomes. Jarod, your amulet is obviously magic, and the voidstone is draining the amulets power. give me and Phaelos a few minutes to drain the psionic aura from the stones and they will be less of a burden."

Jarod's eyebrow raised. "That must be kinda convenient. All of us walking around with little power storages of psionic energy." He takes off the voidstone...immediately feeling a surge from his armlet, and hands it to Arturios..."What exactly happens to that energy that you drain?" It was more of a rhetorical question than one that he was actually waiting for an answer for.

Jarod figured that Arturios drained the voidstones to boost his own powers, him being a psion and all. Definitely not a man to be taken lightly if that was indeed the case. Jarod smirked slightly, "Sparring huh?" He glanced around at the others. "If you think it would help...who's up against who?"

Jarod crossed his arms in front of him. The cloudiness faded from the black amulet within his armlet. His right hand clenched slightly and the gem seemed to glow slightly, then faded again just as quickly.
