Aries_t3h_ph34r
I'm just wondering, does anyone else still have their blankie?... And still use it? Ever since I was 4(I'm 13 now) I have had this large bedpoof that's pink, blue, green, and purple(Very femme, pastel like colors not me really) with unicorns. I'm still very attached to it, and my mum is started to get a little fusterated with me. Does anyone else have this problem, used to, or have any advice? Or just reminsance about yer old ones that were thrown out.
Brasil
Nice thread. ^_^ I'm 21 now, and yes, I still have my blankie. It's an old Winnie the Pooh one back from...oh, I must have been about 1 or 2. It's a very groovy blanket, actually. It's got a nice design collage of different scenes and locations from Winnie the Pooh. The blanket itself feels like a strong felt, I suppose. It's the best way to describe it. The lining to the blanket is coming undone, but it's not actual fabric, instead it's a silky banner-type material that's incredibly soft to the touch. I should take a picture of my blankie and post it, heh.
Aries_t3h_ph34r
My blankie isn't tattered at all yet, it's weird. I think that people should take a picture of their blankets and post it in this thread. Thank you as well, but anyhow I never really liked whinnie the pooh but it sounds like one of those REALLY nice fabric ones that are cozy til the end of time. Dagger
My blankie is currently in storage... but from a technical perspective, I do still have it. When I was little, my parents had an incredibly hard time convincing me to let them wash it--and whenever it did finally come out of the dryer, I'd immediately rub it all over the floor. I guess I must have possessed something of an affinity for dirt. ^_^;; ~Dagger~
Vicky
You could say I still have mine... I had it since I was 2 and it was a white one with a dog on it or something like that. When I grew older I just kept it in my room somewhere or under my pillow, then the funny thing was we got Chance, my dog. My mum said that Chance looked like the dog on my blanket, so I gave it too Chance. After about 3 years, Chance has chewed everything up exept that blanket, it's still in his basket, too ^_^. It was mine, and it still is, only now my dog has it. It used to be very white, but yeah my dog likes to get full of dirt and all sorts of messy stuff, and the blanket is as dirty as a water logged field.

Skye
>> Yes, in fact, and I sleep with it when I am extremely upset. ^_^ (I?m 13.) I?ve had this blankie since I was born(really! XD It was a present). It?s a tiny quilt, about a two and a half feet wide and three and a half feet long. Its got purple, green, and yellow patches, with lace around the edge ? notice: no pink. *shudders* I know that at one point it had stuffing, but it had a small hole, and the stuffing disappeared bit by bit. My mom repaired the hole, but didn?t restuff it. ^_^ She never has tried to take it away, since she understands about sentimentality. << Whoa, long word.
SaiyanPrincessX
I never really got attacted to a blanket. I had a stuffed animal that I absolutely adored however. My grandpa got it for me from California when he went there, I live in Phoenix, AZ at the time. I was one or a little younger. Its a stuffed dog with a grey body, black ears, and a black nose. I've gone through several of the same one actually. I forgot it once in a K-Mart kart, amonge other places. I lost at least three of them. I couldn't live without it though, I would'nt stop crying untill I had it. So each time my grandpa went back for another. I eventaully got the last one too. I called him doggy. I'd sleep with its mouth on mine every night. When I was about seven or eight I got a Precious Moments teddy bear at a small store next to K-Mart. Which I called Teddy, ironically. I couldn't live without either of them. I still have them in my room on the shelf in my closet. I slept with them untill I was fifteen or sixteen. ^_^ Both are in pretty good shape, but the dog has been sewed several times.
Kanariya
Blankie? I remember, I had a Pocohontas (spl?) blanket, with her on it, with the humming bird and the racoon. I still remember what it looks like; it is like a darkish/royal blue, and wasn't too big, just right for a three year old kid. I think it is stuffed in my drawer, or it's in my closet somewhere. I'm probably going to keep it for the rest of my life, since I pay not much attention to it, but keep it as a kind of memory thing. I also once had a doll; it wore a pink/rose outfit, and had two front teeth sticking out. (Hey, it doesn't look as weird as you think!). Thing took over my mind; I dreamed about it getting kidnapped by a killer clown, it getting stolen by Santa Clause. Well, it didn't meet it's fate that way. My dog got a hold of it, and it's head was literally ripped off. Plus, the arm was kind of loosely hanging, so I had to get rid of it.
Spiritbreeze
:D Yay for blankies! Of course, I still have mine(I'm only 14 1/2 though)! It's a very pale green and it's kinda poofy, and a just a bit tattered. But I love it and my twin sis has a matching white one. Hers looks nicer cuz she doesn't use it much, but mine is always on my bed. We used to put our blankies over our heads and pretend and play games with them. Blankies are lots of fun!
Orb
Geez, a lot of people have blankies! I still have and use a knitted pink and white one from when i was a baby but I am not obsessed with it, like some people I know. lol.
Kei
I remember when I was younger, I used to have a brown, orange and black afghan that my grandmother had knitted for me when I was a baby. I used to adore it, even though it usually did nothing against central air going full blast in the summer at my dad's. <.<; Unfortunately, time got hold of it and it started unraveling, and my mother had to toss it. I cried so hard that day, heh. I miss it dearly, but I do have a tan/black reversable mink blanket (it's just a type of thick blanket; it's not made from mink fur. <.<; ) that I had ever since then that I love just as much. ^^
SilverCyclone
Sorry to say, I never had a blankie. I had this large rainbow fish my grandma made for me. I never could sleep without it. But, when I was around 4 (I had it when I was 1) I lost it for around 8 years. (Heart wrenching story) I had actually forgotten about it 2 years after I lost it. When cleaning out the garage, I found it under a bunch of old blankets (all my siblings). I had found it one day after my grandma died. Now, I keep it as my memorial to her. Its a big fluffy fish, and while you wouldnt think it too comfortable, it really is. Where is it now? Sitting on my pillows, waiting for me with my two stuffed teddy bears (both from random relatives) and a pink cat (which I hide like my life depended on it) that was made by grandma as well. :( I really am pathetic...*angst*
InuyashaReborn
i had a blankie, and still have it, but i was never extremely attached to it. i did have a little pillow that my mom made for me out of a hand towel, that i still keep with me at night to this day. it's really grundgy looking anymore, and needs to have its stuffing replaced, but i'm still attached to it all the same. Ninjaman
I used to have a blanket when I was younger. I remember it, heh, it was a Raggedy Ann and Andy blanket. I have no idea where it is. Even if I did have it, I doubt I'd still use it because I remember it used to be quite small. It probably cover half of my body if I used it. I got a new blanket quite a few years back and I've been using that one up to now. It's a nice dark blue blanket that's not too heavy or light. But I don't call it my blankie, lol. DBZgirl88
Although I'm not too attached to it, there's a blanket in my house that every child in my family slept with as a baby, from my 20 year-old sister down to my little brother Fadi, who is five now. He is still small enough to use it. Talk about an efficient hand-me-down! And it's in such good condition, no one would believe it was 20 years old. I don't know how to describe the material, though I think most of us have come across it in winter blankets. It's one of those furry ones, not too smooth, so it doesn't feel like animal fur. Know what I'm talking about? Anyway, it has a close-up picture of a boy and girl fishing on it, who both seem very relaxed. I think the picture is very soft and soothing.

Sara
I never really had a security blanke. My cousin, a few weeks older than me, had one that I remember him having around a lot. I had a blanket, but it was full size and stayed on my bed. Or floor. Or with me, curled up in the living room in front of the heat register... It was orangeish and greenish, with squares in sort of a quilt pattern. (The blanket itself wasn't a quilt, however. The fabric was just patterned like that. There were also two pillows; each were the size of one of the squares on the fabric design. I don't know if it was especially soft to begin with, but after years of sleeping with it, it had that wonderful soft feeling of something very used and loved. My grandmother made it for me when I was small. Now that I think about it, she probably made it around the same time my dad made me a bed, heh. I wouldn't have needed a full size blanket before that, and I don't remember ever having the bed without the blanket. ^_^ I did have a pillow that I cried into a lot as a child. It was a normal-size pillow, filled with down, but slightly understuffed. The material it was made out of was green and blue...I think it might have been a forest scene. I remember crying and crying, and when the side I was crying into was hot and wet, I would turn it over, and the other side would still be soft and cool. I don't know how many of you are intimately familiar with young children's literature, but when I was little, I had a book called My Goodnight Book. It's illustrated by Eloise Wilkin, who happens to draw the most adorable children in the world. Anyway, I always had this idea that the book had been made especially for me. It follows this little girl as she gets ready for bed, and on every page there was something that convinced me the little girl was supposed to be me. She had a Happy Apple toy, for example. (The smiling red apple with the bells inside). And the blanket on her bed looked a lot like mine. ^_^ When I graduated high school, my grandmother gave me a thoroughly awesome denim quilt, made from old jeans. I love it.
Arcadia
Actually, I don't think it's very hard for me to get attached to something like a blanket or a stuffed animal, considering every other year or so I get a new one. You see, my grandmother sews a lot, and she's been making quilts and things for my entire extended familly for years. She used to make us clothes, and I remember getting this vest with a bunch of zoo animals on it that I never wore. But it's the thought that counts, right? ^_^;; The latest quilt she made for me was for my high school graduation, and it's patterned, with lots of green and white. Kind of Christmas-y actually. But she's also made me a very colorful one (lots of orange, actually), with two little kids on it being cute, and a crocheted maroon one, both of which I love very much. The oldest one I have, however, is one that my great grandmother made me. It's kind of a darker pink/maroon color and it's one of those smaller blankets that you can fold up into a pillow. I've had that thing forever and it's by far my favorite one. I used to get called Linus because of that thing, heh.

ChibiHorsewoman
Yes, I still have my baby blankets. I'm 23 and I have a baby of my own and I still have both of my baby blankets. There's one that I don't use because I got it from my birth mother so my mom keeps it in her cedar chest along with the clothes I came home in. So I actually have something from my birth mom besides genetics. My other one is yellow, ratty and has holes in it, but I sprayed that one with Lancome Miracle for men and I sleep with it from time to time. Unless my husband accidentally packed it in his duffle bag on Tuesday and took that instead of his thumb loader thingy (something for a computer) Ah well, I think I'll go look for it after I get done here.
Dragon Warrior
I don't have a blankie, but I have a blanket I was given for christmas to keep me warm when I watch TV. It's fleece and is blue and has fuzzies on it. It keeps me warm. That was one of the best presents ever! Obviously you now see I'm easily amused. Hevn
I started with cotton and I rub it on my nose while I'm sucking my thumb, heh. Then I used a handkerchief folded six times. I eventually got a soft white blanket which I still have until now. I sucked my thumb until before highschool. I've tried sucking again once in a while but it tastes awful now, lol, and I'm 20. >_< My mom's also having a hard time washing my blanket, heh. What she does is wash it in the morning when I wake up so by the time I sleep that day I can use it already. I didn't care if it was dirty or clean before but now I make sure my blanket is always clean because it's just so yucky seeing its color turn from white to brown. Lady Asphyxia
I wish I still had my blankie. Well, it wasn't really a blankie, it was a sheepskin that I got when I was born. I carted it with me everywhere, and it wasn't until I was about eight that I stopped; and only then because it feel apart. I think I may have a piece the size of my hand, but that's all I've got left. I think a blankie is a great thing to have. Obviously carrying it around every is a little silly at 13, but at the same time, blankies remind you of the comfort and security of your growing years. As well as that, the smell would probably trigger memories and such, and so it could be a useful tool when you're upset, as it can have a calming quality. I suppose you could just explain to you Mum why you want to keep it, and it should be fine.. ^_^ *wishes she still had her blankie*
Marron347
I still have my blankie. It's Precious Moments, and has a picture of a swan and a girl on it and little pink and yellow flowers all over the rest; it's really cute. I don't still use it though. My sister is 27 years old, and she still has her blankie, and she uses it too. It's crocheted in beige and green and pink. Her aunt made it for her when she was a baby, and she's used it ever since. It's falling apart now. It has so many holes in it that it doesn't even look like it ever was a blanket. She even bought a special bag for it so that she could wash it in the washing machine and dry it in the dryer. I know she still uses it because I was at her house in CA a few months ago, and I was in her room talking to her, and it was laying on her bed among her other blankets. SHe admitted that she still sleeps with it, and I think that's really cool that she could keep something like that for so long. I still pick on her about it though. There's a guy I know who has something like that too, except it's not a blankie, it's a stuffed animal. It is a big elephant named Hubert, and this guy takes it with him where ever he goes. He uses it as a pillow.
