Overrated Shows

I was reading an article in a magazine (I think it was Entertainment Weekly, I'm not sure) about this one guy that hated Family Guy, saying that it was hardly hilarious and that he couldn't believe that the show's coming back. I guess even a show like Family Guy can be overrated.

A show that I find overrated is Everybody Loves Raymond. This show is soooo annoying, in my opinion. Almost everybody I know loves the show, but me, I don't. I really don't think it's that funny. The characters are so whiny, especially Ray. While people tend to say that's what makes the show funny, I think the show took the whining too far that scratching on a chalkboard sounds better to my ears. The only character that's funny is Ray's dad, whose name I forget at the moment. I'm glad this show is finally ending, in fact, I wished that this show ended sooner, it's hardly funny to me.

Other shows I find overrated are a majority of reality shows. Anyway, does anybody here find any shows overrated? Why do you find it overrated?

I definitely agree about Friends. I remember that I always thought there must be something good about it, since it's so popular. So I began watching it, only to find that it is the most flat, inane show I've ever seen. Really poor acting and really awful writing. Overall, I just found it to be a total and utter disappointment. I'm kind of amazed that so many people actually like it. lol

Everybody Loves Raymond is good, but not great. Ray annoys me more than anyone on that show and I honestly think he's the worst part of it (ironically). I much prefer his mother, and the comedy that involves the interactions between family members. It's reasonably good, but I wouldn't personally say that it's one of the best shows I've seen.

Seinfeld was big for a reason; it's just a really clever show. Great acting and a great variety of humor (some of it very overt, most of it very subtle). It kind of reminds me of a Tarantino film, in that the characters in those movies tend to extrapolate really basic and pointless situations in day-to-day life, to the point where it becomes ridiculous. Seinfeld is very much the same; it takes mundane situations that are easily-relatable and it extrapolates them to their nth degree, so to speak.

But yeah, I definitely agree that Friends is highly overrated. It's the only show mentioned so far that really doesn't deserve the accolades, as far as I'm concerned.

I hate Friends...with a passion. Haha, so yes, I think it is Overrated.

I do like Everybody Loves Raymond though...I think their zany off the wall family antics are hilarious. The stupid wife and the stupid kids are the only non-hilarious characters.

Alright, Everybody Loves Raymond bugs me simply because Ii think Debra is a nag and thats she's way too hard on her poor husband. That and Robert's a baby "Oh look it me! I'm so under-appreciated because everyone focuses on the accomplishmenst of my little brother." Oh! Bugger off Robert! one sibling is ignored in every family.

I too greatly appreciate Seinfeld. The acting and writing was fiarly sharp. The characters are timeless and have unique personalities.

and truthfully *whispers* I was never a big fan of The Simpsons... Sure there's the odd quote that makes me chuckle.. but I'm kinda sick and twisted, so romper room hugs and chuckles humor doesn't do it for me...

Friends is most defiantely overrated, while it had some good moments. It had it's fair share of equally horrid ones. Yet it was hyped and promoted as the best thing since...no wait... better that.... sliced bread.

Yet the one series that is overly overhyped, is, our own series 'bro Town. Everyone over here is going on about how it's New Zealand's first prime-time animated series, and it's right up there with the Simpsons, when in reality, it doesn't even hold a candle to Simpsons. It doesn't even compare to South Park!

Friends is overrated, which seems to be the general consensus here, because as previously stated, the show is just unfunny. All reality shows are just moronic and designed to show how far some people will stoop for money. Ridiculous!

While I love Chappelle Show to death, I'm annoyed by how big it got so quickly, to the point where, during my brief time in teh military, I couldn't go anywhere without hearing someone say "Yeeeahhh!" "What?" "OK" or "I'm Rick James, *****", ruining some of the shows funniest moments. I might put this up as a later topic, but is Dave Chappelle really funny enough to have a million dollar contract to do more shows? I'm not really sure myself, I've seen funnier.

Also overrated is the Tom Green Show. Yes, I know its old, but I hated it. Tom Green is undoubtedly the most overrated, idiotically unfunny comedian I've ever seen, and how anyone could have made his show popular, much less stand more than five minutes of him, is beyond me.

Great:
Family guy

seinfeld
Chappelles show

Okay:
Friends
ELR

Bad:
Sesame St.
Mr. Rogers

Seinfeld is a great show because everyone can relate to it, as is ELR. Those of you that have said you don't like them are thinking about it too much. They make fun of everyday life. Ray's brother is whiney to be funny.

I think Seinfeld definitely was a great show. It deserved every accolade it recieved, in my opinion, due to the style of comedy used. It was more dry and everyday style, like something that could happen to anyone.

I do think that Frasier was overrated, though not a lot. I just didn't like the richy smugness that it seemed to be pulling off every episode and I don't really agree with it being the "smartest show on television." I didn't mind it too much though, it was good at times.

The Real World on MTV, being watched as much as it is which makes it seem good when looking at the ratings, is actually pretty stupid. The concept was decent back in the day when they first started it, but like 15 citites later it's become too cut and dry and is both a has been show and just plain idiotic.

My two cents.

Personally, I like Everybody Loves Raymond and Seinfeld. I never was a fan of friends. The Simpsons was always a favorite of mine, but I rarely get to watch it. Same with Family Guy. One show I adore is M*A*S*H. My dad used to watch it when I was younger, which got me into it.

When I was younger I liked both Mr. Roger's Neihborhood and Seseame Street.

I hate ALL reality shows with the utmost hatred.. I find them stupid, pointless, and very over rated. If I see any advertisement with anything to do with reality shows I turn the channel. The people are usually whining and swearing left and right.

Reality TV shows are the most over rated. My cousin really likes them, so when ever I go to her house she is watching Real world. I swear, each season is the same!everytime, one girl likes one of the guys because he made out with her. Then they go to a bar and the guy takes some girl home and sleeps with her and then the other girl gets all upset and mad! And everyone hates at least one person! I swear, it is all played out or something!

I was never really a fan of the Simpson's either. I don't hate the show (I do like it), but in my own oppinion it's never really made laugh out loud like Family Guy. Futurama is ok, it's about like Simpsons (sense they're made by the same person.) I think the simpsons is slightly over rated, but not too much. Family Guy is just so hilarious.

Interesting, most interesting.

The Simpsons has to be the most over-rated show for me, I've honestly begun to hate it with a passion because it's never original. The plots are always tired, the characters never change and the humour has just gotten predictable and old. I think the show has gotten to the stage where it relies pretty much on celebrity guest appearances [although I wouldn't call Simon Cowell a celebrity] to keep people from switching away. If they'd just add a bit of originality to the series it might be entertaining, because the characters never age there's never anything new to expect, ten years from now Lisa will still be 8.

Everybody loves Raymond is actually an OK show, although I have to side with James Raymond himself can be a bit of an annoyance. The best interaction between characters comes between Ray and his brother, both are always trying to get one up on the other and it always ends hilariously. Ray's father and mother are also great characters although his father has to be slightly funnier in my own opinions, the typical grumpy old man who always has something negative to say.

I definately think Friends is one of the most overrated shows in history. I never watched it when it was originally on the air and I don't watch it now. For some odd reason my dad (53 years old mind you) enjoys watching it. Then again he watches the Bloomberge stock report channel for 3 hours so maybe that's why he'll watch friends.

I kind of like Everyone Loves Raymond. I was actually watching it while going through people's replies to this post.

I'm not sure what else to add to this except South Park. Ok, it was funny when it came out my Sophomore year of High School, but the potty humor is really old now.

I hate to say it, but that is true. The most overrated show on tv to me? Well, I have two. First, there is Friends, and then...well, I have 3 letters for you. T.R.L.
