Welcome to my J @ The Arena thread. Below, you'll find a listing of all of my threads here (current and future) arranged by type and by chronological order. Threads that are still active are marked as such.

I've decided not to list all in development projects; only the next project. This should make things a bit cleaner and less confusing.

Cool. I think the only RPG that I don't consider viable would be Kill Adam: Volume 1, as it was completed.

But all of the others are still open, to some degree. Having said that, though, I would be reluctant to restart one of them unless one or two of the original cast were to post. Maverick Hunters: Personification was given a kick in the butt not long ago, but Mr. Warlock seemed to lose interest, which sucks. Unfortunately Flash is gone too, so...that kind of kills that RPG.

Anyway, thanks for your recommendations. ^_^

Wow James. I personally think that this is great idea. Keeping up with RPGs can be tedious, but you seem to stay on top of that kind of stuff. I'm really impressed. Sometimes, a great way to kill time is to read through old RPGs and use them for inspiration. I used that idea to come up with my next RPG, that I haven't posted yet.

Now for some filler stuff.
I personally feel like I shouldn't post in the Kill Adam underground thread. I mean I realize that is what it is there for, but it seems like trodding on holy ground with shoes on. That's your RPG, and it's like you shouldn't go and muck it up with your pointless opinions and questions. I guess that's probably not good thinking, but I think that if some people didn't have these kind of ideas, some threads would become spam fests.

Here it feels like it's ok to post opinions so I will.
Kill Adam is something like a small obsession of mine. I love just sitting there reading the perfectly crafted story and seeing the action happen. The way the writers of Kill Adam write is kind of like a trance for me. I could sit there and just read the thread all day. (Oh, that sounded really fanboy like. lol)

OK finally two questions.
1. Would you like me to go through and do that Starring thing for you?
2. Are you still planning on doing that "DVD Extras" thing with Kill Adam?

OK, I think that is all. lol.

I'm really pleased to hear that you have enjoyed reading those threads; one of my favourite things is to read the latest KA post. I'm a big fan of all of the writers in there.

To answer your questions:

1) If you would like to do that, it'd be very cool. Up to you though; it's quite a lot of work.

2) Absolutely. If Kill Adam participants have saved enough writing (that hasn't been published in the thread), I would be more than happy to do a "Kill Adam: Disc 2" or something like that. I have some ideas as to how that might work, and it might be possible to include people who didn't make it in, but who still had great sign-ups. It could also include side stories and things like that (such as Queen Asuka's recent Arianna side story).

I think at the time I was pretty happy to let the third Maverick Hunters collapse. Somehow it wasn't quite going in the direction I'd hoped.

But...that isn't to say that I wouldn't be interested in starting it up again. If we can get a couple of participants to join in, that'd certainly be possible. I never finished the first two RPGs with the others, but it'd be cool to push the third a little further. I definitely liked the actual opening to it.

Hm, I am interested in the future rpg of Zelda that you're making James. Tell me James, do you have any idea of when Zelda might be up? I'd be obligated to join, you could say, lol. I am quite fond of the Zelda series, and judging by your past rpg's, you are quite good at making rpgs, altough I'd like to see more rpgs done by you that deal with medieval settings, but I'm certainly not disappointed by what you've got now. It's excellent. Also, I'm wondering, will the Zelda rpg have a new story to it that you've made from your own ideas?

*eyes Zelda: Sword of Fate* Such a shame that one died so quickly. ... I don't think I'd want to bring it back now, though. I probably wouldn't have much trouble getting back into character (I like my Kokiri archers, I do), but my writing style has changed so much since then that it would be kind of awkward.

I'm really interested in the new Zelda RPG, though. Have you thought about it much more since we threw around ideas for it that time? I'd love to hear about anything you've got in the works for it. I've actually gotten some ideas for a Zelda RPG of my own, but I'm too lazy to actually put it together; much easier to join RPGs than create them, heh.

Oh, and maybe instead of having a list of characters that took part in the various RPGs, you could just put links to the threads' corresponding Adventure Inn threads? Then people could just take a look at the sign-up thread of an RPG to be able to see who's in it. And I imagine that would be a lot easier than writing up character lists for each RPG.

Desbreko, I know that I told you a little about my new Zelda RPG idea a while ago and I made some comments about it at myOtaku.

For those who don't know, I've called it "Zelda" (at least that's the working title ~_^) because it's a major reinterpretation of that franchise. I guess that it would primarily be a reinterpretation of Ocarina of Time.

In terms of what it specifically deals with, I think I want to go for a specific mood. Primarily, I want to make a Zelda that's more like something Tim Burton would do, you know? Something very dark and twisted.

I'll give you some examples.

In this "alternate Zelda", Lon Lon Ranch is an abbatoir instead of a ranch. I was also thinking that Talon might be an abusive father, and Malon might be a drug addict as a result. I had even darker thoughts about what Talon's character might be like (I mentioned to someone that he may even love working in an abbatoir because he's also a necrophile), so...if you think about that, you can kind of see where I'm going.

In regard to the Kokiri, we know that they have fairies and that they don't leave the forest. They remain perpetually young.

In my version, the Kokiri only avoid leaving the forest because they can't leave. They are prisoners. Fairies, instead of being friends of the Kokiri, are actually carnivorous creatures that dwell in the forest. And they have a particular taste for Kokiri that happen to stray too far from the beaten path. So the fairies provide a good excuse for the Kokiri to remain where they are. If you take that to its logical conclusion, there are all sorts of things you can experiment with there.

Additionally, I was thinking about the actual town center itself. If you look at some of the language used in the Japanese version, you'll find that much of it has been "cleaned up" for the US translation (the Japanese are far more open when it comes to issues of sexuality and so on). I had considered that Zelda may not be a princess at all. Rather, I had thought of her perhaps being a prostitute or something along those lines. This doesn't mean that she has any less importance in the story, however, her character could be a lot more gritty and tragic.

Despite the setting, I don't think that the RPG has to be entirely depressing. If you look at something like The Nightmare Before Christmas, you have a situation where the environment/setting and characters are all incredibly bizarre and twisted. In fact, some of the elements in NBC are incredibly gross. However, the movie still has a certain beauty about it. You have two characters who fall in love, despite being complete misfits. There are also elements of black humor in there, which work really well.

So, this is what I'd like to do with a Zelda RPG. I'd like it to almost be a Tim Burton's Zelda, you know?

The only problem with this is that I figured a lot of Zelda purists may not like it. I also figured that this RPG may potentially be a little too extreme. I mean, a lot moreso than Kill Adam.

However, I think it's mostly just a question of attracting people who understand that and who are still interested. As long as I'm very up front about my intentions, I think it will work out just fine.

What are your thoughts on that idea? ~_^

Haha Jmes, you know my comments "O.O Woah" and the lkes. Haha, but i find this approach to be amusing and the twisted feel on the abattoir and the Drugs addict to be even more amusing.

I personally thought the Abattoir was the best idea from all of the idea's, but i was thinking about the name. You couldn't have it Lon Lon Abattoir, hehe, but what about 'Long Gone Abattoir' but thats just an idea. I don't know if they even name Abattoirs.

And it being more gruesome than Kill Adam is an even better prospect, where would you be without violence...alot of. Heh heh, i can just imagine Link now with a Samurai Sword...or not.

But in an overall view this is going to be one of my favourite RP's i'll try and get into (most unlikely, lol) but i'll be reading it anyways even if i don't get in. Violence..alot of is going to be a main thing in this RP, so get your sword out and make this RP the best James.

I may have come across the wrong way, I think. The RPG will no doubt be violent, but my intention isn't to make it unnecessarily violent all the way through.

When I talk about making it like a Tim Burton movie, I'm really talking about the style of "gruesome" that you see in his films. Nightmare Before Christmas is a great example. It's not exactly "violent", as such, but it has a very grotesque aesthetic to it. You know?

That's sort of more what I'm talking about. A twisted, bizarre, dark and grotesque version of Zelda. Violence will be there, of course, but I wouldn't say that violence will be the focus.

Although violence itself isn't so much the focus of Kill Adam (it's more a symptom of the characters who are the focus themselves), but yeah, I know what you mean.

You're right; the Zelda purist in me cries out at this idea. But the rest of me is highly intrigued, and I'll definitely sign up for it whenever you get it running. I wouldn't miss it for any other RPG.

I see a lot of potential for twisted Zelda humor in it, which is one thing that interests me. I can really imagine myself having a lot of fun with a somewhat crooked character in that setting, making subtle references to things from the games. Running around in Ocarina of Time's Hyrule turned upside down as a thieving and underhanded smartass, dropping sarcastic comments with crude humor that double as Zelda "inside jokes." ... Yeah, I can definitely see myself enjoying that.

All of the ideas layed out so far sound good to me. Going for a dark and grungy atmosphere seems like a nice change of pace. I mean, remaining within the confines of what you would see in the games can be fun, but really turning things around from that for an entirely new mood and feeling also sounds like a lot of fun. An RPG that still has a feeling of Zelda to it, but is warped enough so that nearly everything you had previously thought about Zelda gets flipped on you; that's sort of what I'm imagining from the ideas you've put forth, and I like it.

Yeah, I think you've really hit the nail on the head, 'breko-san. Anyone who has seen The Nightmare Before Christmas will know exactly the kind of theme I'm going for. Bear in mind that TNBC was really a kid's movie. This Zelda would probably be more violent than that, but still, the fact remains that this is the aesthetic style I'm looking for.

In my opinion -- and as a Zelda fan -- the potential for this new Zelda universe is almost limitless. I've already mentioned how some things are twisted on their head (like fairies, Lon Lon Ranch and so on). But think of how far you could take it.

I was thinking that the Gerduo may not be women, they might be men dressed as women (ie: a village of transvestites, lol). I was also thinking about how the Zora could be potrayed.

Basically, it would be a world of misfits (much like TNBC). There's plenty of potential for violence, of course, but there is also tremendous potential for comedy and for a very eerie and moody atmosphere.

I was saying to someone on AIM that I would actually like to redo the Zelda logo for this RPG...and make it all curly and twisty, like the Burton logos that you see on his animations and films (Bish Fish's logo would be another example). I think that would look awesome, though I don't even know if I'm comfortable enough with doing it. ~_^

But still, I think there's plenty to work with here. On the one hand, we would be creating a new universe, so we wouldn't have to worry about being inconsistent with what is established. The story and everything would be somewhat new. However, we can borrow from existing elements and twist them around, to incorporate them into the new landscape. This could also be fun for people who aren't even knowledgable about Zelda at all, because really, they can still follow everything as though it's totally new.

I've also considered the possibility of incporating Four Swords elements. I mean, what if Link was one of four quadruplets? Perhaps the four of them would have to go on this adventure together and each individual Link would be different. So, rather than just having different coloured outfits, maybe they would have some specific differences in their appearance and/or personalities.

I had even thought about making the four of them conjoined at birth...and then forcibly seperated (which means they'd have stitching all over them), so that they are kind of four sides of one person. I can actually imagine a really cool character design there (think Wind Waker style art, but with drab colours, torn clothes and stitching on the body).

Basically, it's an idea I've been pretty excited about for a while. I just have to think about how I'm going to structure it, aside from story and all of those things.

I like to think I know a little bit about Zelda (mostly Ocarina of Time), but even then, it's good to know that this kind of RPG would be open to just about anyone because it's definitely one I could get interested in. I love the idea of converting everything into a very Nightmare Before Christmas-esque theme, and on such a big scale. It could be quite awesome, heh. Slightly mental, but still awesome.

And like you and Des both mentioned, there's a huge potential for humor in it, as well as the more mature violence and ghastly atmosphere, so I think a lot of people could really get into it (provided they liked Nightmare Before Christmas, heh). It seems like there will be something for everyone. ^_^

Thank you for your comments, Arcadia. The more I go over it in my head, the more interesting it seems. I was thinking that we could also utilize some Danny Elfman tracks for the RPG, which would further add to that atmosphere.

Also, on an unrelated topic, I have to show you my ideas for character design in Fox Force Five, Arcadia. We need to talk about that again, because there are still lots of things to flesh out and stuff. I'm interested to see if you like the approach I'm thinking of taking with character designs, so I'll chat to you about that when it's possible.

Having only played 'Ocarina of Time' halfway through myself - and not having played any other Zelda games (I'm ashamed of myself in a way. I've heard so many good things aobut it, but just can't be bothered hunting down any of the other titles) - this "new-look" Zelda RPG you're planning is sparking a new interest for the whole twisted, dark and gruesome idea.

I particularly like the idea of the Four Swords quadruplets. But I see that and I think, why not take it a step further and mutate their faces/bodies as well as, or instead of just their personalities/clothes colour, etc. The possibilities are endless. Mind you, I've only seen pictures of the Four Swords game or concept, so that was just my little view of what a twisted version would be like.

So yeah, mutations are always good.

And what about the mountain dwelling race? Surely there's a good twist in there somewhere! If you find it, it must be used!

As I said on MyOtaku all the ideas you've got lined up for the future are nothing short of intrigueing, Tim Burton's Zelda (not a bad title) being the one I'm most looking forward to, although the Matrix one is also rather interesting. The Maverick Hunter series is also something I'd love to have a part in, if you decide to reopen it I'd be most interested to give it a go.

Welcome to OB, Kitsune...I notice you're new. Thanks for posting in this thread. ^_^

In regard to your idea...I think I'm definitely liking the Four Swords angle. I suppose I want to be careful with how I apply these variations on the core series; although there will be many similarities, I'd definitely like to make it a new story, so to speak. I have begun to actually pin down a few specifics, but it's a bit early to talk about them here yet (other than the ideas I've put forward so far).

Kane, I appreciate your interest. The Matrix RPG will come at some point, but I don't really know when. I feel that The Reanimatrix is only half-finished right now. At the moment it has around 50 pieces, but I'd really like to hit the 100 mark or something. I feel that it would provide ample material to draw on for a more fully-rounded RPG. The RPG will come, I just don't know when.

In regard to Maverick Hunters, I'd like to restart The Third Succession, but right now it's a bit difficult because so many aren't participating anymore. I mean, a lot of people aren't really on OB now.

However, as you can see by the sign-up thread to The Third Succession, Maverick Hunters has a pretty solid history here on OtakuBoards. It's also my all-time favourite RPG series here. It's just a shame that none of the stories were ever finished (even Personification only got less than halfway through).

But who knows. I might try to do a side-story, or perhaps a remake or something. I really don't know at this point. But I'm open to ideas.

Eh James, I'll always be around... Heh.

If you can cook up your RPGs according to the ideas, you can count me in. But I certainly see what your saying, the higher quality members don't seem to be here regular. I'm not a higher quality member, but I'm definitely not around as much as I used to be.

At the moment, I was thinking of collaborating with someone for an Ico-esque, RPG. Simply because the game is so beautiful, not just in visuals, but just in imagination. If anyone's interested, you can either PM me or if you're lucky, find me on AIM.

That is complete nonsense Zidargh, you're easily one of the most talented role-players on all of OB, anything you launch in the Arena is always bursting to the brims with quality and imagination. Saying you?re not a higher quality member is like me saying my name's not Gavin, it's simply not true.

However I do see where you're coming from, there's simply very few high quality role-players from previous version still knocking around to get together, heck the only reason I'm still around is because I can't seem to leave. In saying that however I do think the we are doing our part in showing the majority newbies what can be accomplished if they're willing to put the effort in.

It was something Ken (Deathknight) said to me in a conversation a while back, those of us still around from "back in the day" are kind of training newbies as the next generation, or something along those lines. Though there's not a person here who can claim they're perfect at role-playing, as we're all continually learning, some of us have just been learning longer than others.

Well, I've added the next project to the first page. Right now it's just titled "Wonka". I will probably choose a different name when it comes around. You can also see that I'm promoting it in my avatar. ~_^

I will talk more about that very soon, but right now you can probably get some idea from the avatar itself.

It'll be my next big RPG (after the Kill Adam series) and I really hope that people look forward to it. I've put Legends of Zelda aside for the moment, because I'm not entirely sure that I want it to be an RPG -- perhaps something else (see Return to Wonderland for some indication - agh, I also have to add that to my archive).

I've updated my avatar/banner...I'm kind of hiding Mr. Wonka a little at this point. ~_^

But yeah, you can at least see my dodgy editing job on the glove. Haha. Look for something more authentic when the time finally comes.

For those who posted in MH: B-Spec, I've just posted. But I've advised everyone to stick with size 2 text or above -- size 1 is just too difficult and annoying for me to read. I think that with every one of my upcoming RPGs, I will require at least size 2. Size 1 is readable but I tend to skim it a lot more -- it's easier to drop your place and stuff. No good.

Edit: I've updated the first post in this thread to clean it up somewhat. I've rearranged things a little bit and I've decided to only list the next project rather than everything I'm planning. Should make things a bit clearer.

Edit 2: Here's a little promo image for my next RPG, which I've just knocked up. Yes, in Wonka Inc., Willy Wonka is going to be both a famous chocolateer and the front man for a rock band. It'll be a very unique spin, I assure you. ~_^

Still in development, as far as graphics goes. But this is an early first look for those interested.

To respond to Dragon Warrior...I feel that anyone who knows Wonka (whether the novel or the original movie) will understand the point of this RPG. If you know Wonka, you know that it's a pretty logical step to twist him around a bit further and make him an even more scary/seductive character.

When I heard that Marilyn Manson was originally going to play Wonka in the new film, I immediately felt frustrated. I love Johnny Depp, but as far as I'm concerned, Marilyn Manson is Wonka -- Depp has even been studying Manson's mannerisms so that he can mimmick him for the film. So obviously Depp and Tim Burton agree with that to some extent.

In addition to the obvious links between Manson and Wonka as characters, I think that this RPG will offer some brilliantly unique twists -- for example, the concept of including actual Manson poetry and music in the RPG (poetry and music that is Wonka-themed and relates to the RPG itself). Thankfully, Manson actually had a period where his music and image was quite Wonka-themed. So that will fit even more perfectly into this twisted little universe.

And then you have all the things that can be done with the factory visitors (the children and their parents). That can be twisted beautifully, I'm sure. And don't even get me started on my leather-clad, high-heel-boot-wearing Oompa Loompas...
