For a 12-13 year olds, here's what I'd personally recommend. But it also whould depend on her perosnality...If you know what types of books she already reads, or the classification you think she might like it might help.

Card Capotors

Gals!

Suivon

Ultra Manic

Random Walk

Minita Bokura

Time Stranger Kyoko

Rizelmine

Spiral

Tactics

Lagoon Engine

Okay, my suggestion would be The Slayers. If she's a girly girl...then maybe not ^_^; I'm a tomboy so I'm more into my action manga, but Slayers has it all.

Comedy

Romance

Action

Adventure

Magic

Cute lil' critters

A Big Blond Idiot Boy (with mad sword skills)

A Female Lead

and evil Priests
What more could you ever want from a manga?

Well... If she like sports, Slam Dunk or Dear Boys
(or the Dear Boys: Second Act, although I recommend getting the first part first...).

But if she's a soft-type, The Sailor Moon series is nice.

Slayers are good too. Never failed to make me laugh.

Detective Conan, the first Manga I read... The best thing about it, there's no ending yet! (The current volume is about 40 or above...)

I would also recommend XXX Holic and Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle from Clamp, but I don't think she should read these, expecially XXX Holic. It could be misleading sometime.

Good luck on your search. (Heart)

Heh, what she said. ^_^ I was really into Sailor Moon(and still am), and CCS is a good series, too. You could try some of these:

Slayers

Furuba/Fruits Basket

DNAngel

Chobits
There's another one, but I can't remember how to spell it, so here goes the pronunciation: Azumangadaioh(gah!) ^_^ I think its a cool manga.

my husband just started reading Aria and that's a pretty good manga. Yes, I think i know what you're thinking-how can a manga that a grown up guy is reading be appropirate for a 12 year old girl. Well, in the two books that I've read there's no violence, same sex relationships or anything that parents may consider a bad influence on young kids. Also Kare Kano is in manga form, altho I haven't read it yet.

If you think she may be able to handle it I'd also recomend Peach Girl, Fushigi Yugi and Mars. But Peach Girl has a few dark undertones in it, Fushigi Yugi gets extremely dark after the first book and Mars has people dealing with rape and suicide so I'm not sure what your parents consider appropriate for tehir kids to read so I'll just be careful.

SailorMoon would be good if you coudl find it since aside from Haruka and Michiru I don't see anything that conservative parents would object to. Unless of course they don't like magic. Then no.

Well, there's a few suggestions, take them as you will.

Twelve huh? At that age I was already watching Inuyasha and Cowboy Bebop. (I'm a Bad girl) I think Cardcaptor Sakura. Sailor Moon *Shudders* Too... much... happiness and.... love defeats all crap. what about the cut version of Kenshin? When it was cut it was brought down to a Y-7. Ah.. the days when I watched patheticly cut anime.

Guest Inari the Fox
Well it really depends on what she likes. Does she have a favriote type of show, it would help if you gave a few more details about her. Is she mature, or does she act like a child still? I'm just asking because it would help.

ummm... my sister is 12 and she seems to really enjoy Love Hina though ive never read it so...I would recommend something from clamp, like everyone else said CCS, chobits isnt to bad... ohh ramiko takashashi's work is always good for starters, try ramna 1/2, inuyasha, or maison ikkoku....fushigi yuugi is another one that i really enjoyed but it might be a little to mature for your sister... DN Angel is pretty good. hope this helps! :D

Since she is 12 I think you should go with Pokemon, CardCaptors, or Sailor Moon. Not the one that is worthy for adult swim. Either of these selections would be convincing for your liitle sister. Later on if your plan is a sucess you can bring her into the true reality of manga and anime.

This goes to my other reply. I had another idea for an anime. A good movie for your sister is Kiki's Delivery Service.

He's talking about Manga, Humaru, not animes.

Anyway, I wouldn't suggest Pokemon at all, because everyone knows and is sick of it. Perhaps something like Magic Knight Rayearth or Cardcaptor Sakura, as they're aimed towards teenage girls, aren't too heavy with regards to their subject matter and have decent stories. I think that's the major point. You'll know you sisters personal tastes better than us, heh. If she doesn't enjoy it, she won't be willing to go onto other series. So choose whichever one you think's best (as long as it's not shounen- chances are that won't be quite right).
