Guest lavalamp
While going through my closet earlier, I realized I had 22 pairs of sunglasses. I don't know if that's too many or too few for some of you, but I think I seriously have a dangerous fetish when it comes to them. I don't remember when exactly I started wearing them as fashion accessories instead of what they were intended for, but now I literally can't stop wearing them. I wear them everywhere, and rarely take them off. I'm starting to think I'm harming myself with this weird addiction. Whenever I don't have sunglasses on, I'm incredibly self-conscious/anxious when holding a conversation with people. I can't hold eye contact and I'm embarrassed because I know the other person is thinking badly of my manners or personality in general. When I do have sunglasses on, I'm almost flamboyant and overly confident. I never get anxious and tend to be more lively as a result. I know it's stupid to say it's the fault of the sunglasses and all pairs should have this gigantic disclaimer warning potential buyers of crazy side effects like social anxiety disorder, but I don't ever remember being nervous around people before I started wearing them religiously. It must seem ridiculous, but does anyone else have a similar issue? Maybe not with sunglasses, but with anything? How should I go about dealing with this? Is it something that warrants counseling or is it just some sort of bizarre phase?
Godelsensei
Wear braces or a retainer for a few years and you feel naked without them. I find the same is true of sweaters with me, alot of the time. I don't know why, but when I'm wearing a sweater, I just feel more comfortable. It's like there's some sort of barrier between me and all those annoying people out there. Hm. Sunglasses are cool, by the way. :

I can't say any particular style of clothing/accessory makes me act differently around people. I always act the same regardless.
DeathBug
Well, truth is, I'm a super-smart, uber-sexy footballer-player wunderkind when I'm not wearing my glasses. Sadly, when I wear them, I'm a geek. And I have to wear them all the time. Sorry.
ChibiHorsewoman
Wear braces or a retainer for a few years and you feel naked without them.[/FONT']
Tell me about it, I wore braces for 2 years and felt kind of odd with them off. But, I did like having them off, I missed gum and popcorn. As for an article of clothing or an acessory making you feel more comfortable...I feel that way about pants or shorts. When I wear them I feel a bit more comfortable and laid back. Skirts and dresses sometimes make me feel like I'm on a bit of an edge and I have to act a bit more mature or ladylike. I don't know why, but I just feel more at ease with myself in pants. Maybe it has something to do with being a girly girl back in grade school and middle school. perhaps I should work on that.
Soliel
Sunglasses, huh? Yeah, I find myself wearing them quite a bit, but usually only in the summer months. But I guess my real fetish would be hats, I'm usually always wearing one and I've lost count of how many I own. :wow: Well, guess that's all I have to say on this subject.
KarmaOfChaos
Normally I don't approve of psychologists, but I think in this case it might good to get the opinion of one, lol. I feel rather awkward when I don't wear a bra and/or underwear. But I think that's pretty normal. /cough./ -Karma

Guest ScirosDarkblade
I was once playing Magic the Gathering with these huge dorks who were wearing sunglasses in the basement (basement of our dorm, my sophomore year). Since wearing sunglasses indoors is pretty lame unless you're blind or have very scary eyes (like a vessel popped and one of your eyes is freaky and you're just being courteous, heh), Anuj asked them why the heck they have their shades on. Their reply was, "why are YOU wearing your glasses?" Anuj wears actual, real glasses. Lol. He uses them to see better. Basically, don't wear shades indoors, especially in the basement. It's ooshy. Pumpkin
I like Sunglasses. But sadly I barely have any. I must be the Queen of Awkward Fetishes then because I'm so use to wearing my retainers after having braces, but thats just a natural thing to me. I also can't stand wearing Dresses or Skirts, its like I feel uncomfortable feeling girly (this has to do that im somewhat of a tomboy and manly because all my friends are guys and they would probably find it shocking to see me in a dress so freely.) It feels like im walking on eggshells. As for a fashion fetish......this is going to sound wierd especially since for some reason i hate my feet...but I love buying sandles. I have about every color, style, and more on a rack by my door. I can go without sandles, but thats the majority of what i wear. Even in winter O.o; unless you know its pouring rain outside...Hate High Heels. Hate Boots. Sneakers are ok. But I love sandles *shrug*
James
It's kind of ironic; I often seem to receive sunglasses as gifts. lol Yet I really never wear them. I think that over the last five years alone, I have received maybe five or six pairs as gifts. Some of them are quite expensive too. I guess that quite a few people here wear them, but still...I've never really worn them. Only on very rare occasions. In regard to glasses though (as in, regular glasses), I used to wear them, but now I wear contacts. I tend to like glasses on other people -- provided that the glasses are at least mildly fashionable, of course. ~_^ I actually think that glasses can be quite a sexy/attractive accessory. I've never understood the stereotype that says glasses are unattractive or whatever. The only thing I find odd about glasses is when people wear sunglasses indoors, particularly in shady/dark rooms. What's up with that? ~_^
Baron Samedi
Eye contact is an art. Sunglasses give you a barrier, and make you feel more at ease. Perfectly understandable. Especially as we're heading into summer, I find it...different not wearing my jacket. But, I get used to it. Wean yourself off sunglasses.

I think glasses on a guy (or a girl) is very sexy...it makes them a little more mysterious and enigmatic. Like they might have a secret and they'll tell it to you if you come just a little bit closer. I'm rather weird though. -Karma

Sara
I have long thick hair, and I almost always wear it down. Even when I do pull it back or have it up somehow, I tend to make sure some at the front stays out of the hairband and comes down around my face. I feel naked otherwise. It takes a lot of self-confidence for me to go out with my hair done up. I just feel so weird.
future girl
I have a friend who has a pair of eye glasses she doesn't need and she wears them anyway because she feels safer with them on. I imagine it's a sort of security blanket, I used to have a sweater and that was stolen. Now I have a hello kitty key chain type of thing. It's odd, but it's not rare to feel that way about some things, at least not in my experience.
chobit
I really wouldn't worry about it,I have; 126 pairs of shoes 32 pairs of sunglasses 9 scarves 56 types of make-up 24 kinds of hair products Over 200 earrings A whole bunch of other crap. Now I look at it,and think how sad it is I spent all this money making myself look fab. Then I look in the mirror and I'm un-sad. :)
Kanariya
Bah, no matter what, I always wear my bra. I feel so naked without them, it's kinda scary. I wear them to bed too; I just can't stand the feeling without wearing one. Other then that, I have really no fashion fetishes. This has to do nothing with fashion, but sometimes I feel I have to pull off my fingernail, and I slide it against a piece of paper to relieve the urge. I know it's more of a kind of habit (this doesn't occur anymore), but I always used to pull out the hair from my scalp (Yeah, ow), big chunks of hair from my head. I just felt so comfortable doing it, I kept doing it. Until it was then I started pulling out so much hair and people thought I was going bald I stopped, and now I chew my fingers. Don't know, but I just feel so empty without something to pre-occupy myself during classes or something O.o

You know when the best time is to shop there right? The two Semi annual sales (January and June) I'm so obsessed with that I even went this past June when i was six months pregnant. I think I must have bought about 20 pairs of
panties and maybe 6 bras
to add to my collection. So yeah I guess one of my big obsessions is underwear at Victoria's secret. Then again, there is my Sephora obsession as well, I think I order make up from there about twice a month and most of it's eyeshadow and lipstick. But I have to say it feels like my birthday whenever that UPS guy shows up at my door. *sigh*
