Brasil
I picked up this compilation earlier tonight, and I'm fairly impressed by it. Some really great stuff in there, and some iffy stuff. We've got Primal Rage, MKII and III, Total Carnage, and Xybots (which is incredibly good, surprisingly) and then we're given stuff like...something pretty forgettable...Xeno-somethings. But probably the game that makes the entire compilation worth getting is "NARC." This isn't the game that came out a year ago or so. No, this is a side-scroller "Tough on Drugs" mindless shooter from the early 80s, but even that doesn't do the game justice. I'll include some screenshots. The car there has more of a function than a simple ride into the chaos; you can run people over, and fire at the same time. If there was ever a gratuitous use of violence/sex/drugs in any game ever, that is NARC. Enemies include Pimps wielding shotguns, druggies ninja-leaping around as they throw syringes (yes, syringes at you), cowboys with...something that shoots. So...yeah. MAT2 is really fun to begin with, with Gauntlet II, Primal Rage, MK, etc, but NARC clinches it. You've got to check this compilation out, lol. It's insane. WW2
I bought MAT2 just the other day, mainly because it had the old MK games on it. I still have fond memories of me and my brother playing MK 2 for hours and hours, but over the years I' ve seemed to become very rusty. In short...I keep gettin whooped up on. I used to know everything about the game, but about 7 years of not playing has crippled my old MK skills. Besides the MK games, I was interested in the old NARC game too. It was actually pretty fun, mirroring the old Techno-Cop game I had for the Genesis. My only gripes about it are the stinkin' dogs and the final boss fight, which in makes absolutely no sense. Geez whats with Midway's obsession with Giant Heads? The final boss in Total Carnage is almost the same as the one in NARC, only much easier. All in all MAT2 is a good buy if you like the oldschool arcade games, and at only $20 its a steal.
Charles
Every game on here is terrible with the exception of the two Mortal Kombat titles. Primal Rage has always suffered; even during its prime it was considered clumsy and awkward. The only reason it thrived as it did was because of the technology and gore. Now that time has weathered down those attractions, it's left with little else. Pit Fighter is atrocious; it's purely a button masher with no substance and even less animation. Its only use is serving as an ancient artifact, a demonstration of the roots of digitized graphics. Outside the fighters, everything is repetitious and without substance. Rampage? NARC? Gauntlet 2 with infinite respawn? No thank you. Hard Drivin'? Unplayable. Anyone interested in this should just track down a ten dollar copy of Mortal Kombat Trilogy. Glitches and all, it's a far better bargain.
