Kei
Let me say this before this gets resoundingly closed. OtakuBoards is a family community, *in a sense that people of all ages come here, which translates to young people in their early teens and such. While that doesn't suggest that such members haven't been exposed to the stuff, we try hard to keep that stuff at a minimum in certain areas (with the exclusion of Adventure Square, but even that now has a rating system).* We work hard to create a place where people can come together and have an intelligent conversation that doesn't (very often) get interrupted with inane stupidity that runs rampant on so many other message boards on the Internet. And a lot of people appreciate that a hell of a lot. That's why we put up bad language filters and we don't allow all that other crap around here. Basically, we give a damn. Guest lavalamp
I agree on some levels. For example, I don't think being brief makes your point any less valid, although I think it's expected of members to write essays (with the exception of one or two members who can, frankly, post whatever they want) in response to topics which really don't warrant such. While Lady Katana would say that this is a family community, I don't think it promotes that sort of atmosphere whatsoever.

Adahn
Well now, it's threads like these that make me wish I were a big bad Moderator. Someone will probably tell you this, but don't double post and don't insult people. *points to the left where it says Rules*
Kei
We don't close threads simply because "you mis spell a word." It's when you misspell a string of words and put them together in a noncoherent "sentence" is when we have a problem. Several factors contribute to a thread closing, including members being extremely off-topic, horrible post quality by all parties involved, the topic not presenting any real merit, and the thread basically devolving into nothing more than a mere flame war. Quality is something were strive for here at OB. Sure, we know not everyone has a BA in English, but everyone here should have at least passed a 6th grade English class. Putting together a worthwhile topic in a rational format is not at all difficult, if you take the time to actually think it through. Though Internet shorthand may be quick, but it's some kind of annoying to sit and read through when you expect a certain type of reply to a topic. And if you have somewhere to go and you want to post a message, just wait until you come back. The thread will more than likely still be here. And if it's not, then it wasn't worth posting in to begin with. :p That's my standpoint on that particular topic, anyway. Edit- Another thing we frown on is double posting and flaming, as Adahn pointed out is in our Rules section, which I'm sure that you haven't read. Perhaps you'd like to fix that?
Baron Samedi
If you misspell a word, it doesn't matter. if i wetn adn tiped like tihs; then I'd probably need to proofread. But, it doesn't really matter so much. If you make good quality, on-topic and reasonably easy to understand posts...you won't have a problem. And, if you can't deal with that well...you know where the door is.
Epitome
I agree with all the statements here. I first joined here when I was about 11-12, so the administrators have to keep the site to a max of a PG-13 rating, except in the Adventure, where there are ratings. But reasons they are closing posts: spam, double posting, overall low quality post. Just make sure you make good posts and dont double post, and you should be fine.
James
Basically I think that spike has answered his own question with his posts. All we are looking for is on-topic and reasonably high quality posts. High quality just means, something beyond a single word, which uses at least legible English and that remains on-topic. That's all. There's nothing difficult about that. but wen u typ leik diz itzvrry h@rd 4 ppl 2 ndrstand u~!!!!!!:):):):) See? It's tough to read, it's lazy and it's annoying. It's no fun. So, as a consequence, we make it against the rules on OB. ~_^

I am actually able to have some serious, in-depth discussions with posters whose posts actually...wait for it...MAKE SENSE. Oh gary, lock the room down! This place is much better than say, well not to make any accusations...the [adult swim] boards. That place runs the forum from HELL. Half the people can't even spell right, another half can't even stay on topic because most of them BS what they are saying anyways. Apparently, once you lose the title of "SwimShady" (What you are when you first join...) you are considered an Anime Guru and can say whatever you want and people will go along with you. It's hard to talk about...anything really...before someone sticks their head and and posts: "OmFG I LUV INUYAShA TaHt SHOW IS TEh ROXXORS!!!!!!!!!11!1" ...in a thread about, lets say Dogs or something. It really is out of control over there, tis why I stopped posting there. Got tired of people saying "oh TAHTs NoT trU...U arE JUsT @ SwIMMSHADy you DoNTT knOW whaT you ARe TaLKinggg abouT!". Enough is enough...lol. I for one am glad that threads here can actually STAY on topic. It's amazing. Now I for one think that the closing of threads is a pretty harshly-enforced rule, but it IS necessary. I can understand having one topic per game or show. The search feature is a widely under-used feature in my honest opinion. I think I may have linked to this awhile back but it is a video from another forum that pretty much lays down the basics. It's also pretty funny I recommend that you take a look. It's rated PG don't sweat it...lol. Now, not that I didn't used to do it all the time... And now I can see why wrist cutter has been made an mod yet(despite being a really old member). And spike123, we like rules. If you'll read them, and compare this set of boards to just about any other board on the net(Except Gaia; Gaia scares me.), you will see we are one of the largest. Arcadia was made a mod after only thirty-five posts or so; many of the very old members were mods at one point or another but eventually retired. ~Dagger~
LeaderShugo
Well there might be a lot of rules but they are easy to follow...
DDG
The amount of rules is insignificant to the fact that they're all quite easy to follow. No double posting, proper spelling and grammar, etc. What could be easier than doing that sort of stuff? As well as going back and editing your post if there was a mistake of some sort, its all just basic stuff. Without these rules, Otakuboards could just become one of those forums where every thread is filled with replies that make no sense at all, have nothing to do with the subject or are just plain idiotic like a post that says, "I like cheese." in a thread about Inuyasha or something. If the rules were ever removed or even if there were a few less of them, then havoc would wreak across the boards. *shudders at the thought* -Ouka

Especially in an Inuyashsa thread. And Megan being Megan, she would explain all the connections. XP >> And if Megan ever finds out I said that she wouldn't answer the phone for a week. Heh, sorry Dagger. ^_^ For some bizarre reason(when I was a n00b, long time ago) I had always thought wrist cutter was a mod. How wrong I was. But rules are useful. Unless you want Chaos. In which case, go find another batch of moron's to deal with. ^_^ Sorry if that sounded mean. I?ve been dealing with ******** all day. Heh, but rules are very useful. (Love the French!) Point is I go hither to discuss...stuff so misspelled(sp?) words are fine with me as long as the post contains some degree of sense. Post + Spelling errors - Sense = V. Bad Post. Ouka's right; the rules are pretty simple. Otherwise, they'd have to rename it to 'OB Constitution' or something. Seriously, I don't find them restricting. Bad post quality turn a lot of people off and this site has a reputation to maintain. A bit off the topic: I think wrist cutter should have a fan club. Love and Peace! wrist cutter
Say, why aren't I a mod? I HAVE been here a long time. Veteran status has got to count for something. If I haven't been banned yet I must be alright.

But usually you're okay. ~_^ As it is, I tend to prefer choosing a variety of people for the staff, whether they are new or whether they've been here a while. But as always, ability is the most important thing, with time spent at the boards being irrelevant. Anyway, I'm going to close this now.
