Box Hoy
Okay. I don't know about many of you but this news somewhat irritates me. A fourth FF7 spinoff. Final Fantasy 7: Crisis Core. It's getting a little old hearing about Final Fantasy 7 spinoffs. I'd like to see a spinoff from a different FF game other than 7. Apparently it was announced today (10/27/04) but I haven't been able to find any site with details about it. If anyone gets any info please post here. I'll keep searching and post what I find. Sandy
I noticed that too, but I don't think it's another FF7 spin-off but a compiling name for the three spin-offs already published. But we'll just have to wait for new information.
James
This is a new, PSP-exclusive game, being produced by the original FFVII director. The art will also be done by Tetsuya Nomura. So yeah, this is absolutely a new game. It's an action RPG, last I heard. As far as I'm concerned, the more FFVII properties we receive, the better. VII is an incredibly important game in the series and it is a massively successful game in its own right. My only hope is that these games actually turn out well. Dirge of Cerberus has potential, as does this game. But I'll be ignoring the cell phone game, I imagine. And I'm disappointed that Advent Children is a movie and not a game. I would really like a fully-fledged RPG sequel to Final Fantasy VII, rather than all of these spin-offs. But yeah, hopefully they will turn out well enough. This latest game also has plenty of potential; I'm going to be interested to see how it works on PSP. Semjaza
I admittedly am not a huge fan of FF7. I realize its importance in the market, however. At the same time, when any game has this amount of things surrounding it announced so closely together, it does seem like one thing: milking. Years of people writing stories and posts about how they long for a sequel to a game (one that had a proper, closing ending even, in my eyes) and nothing. Then suddenly, boom boom boom boom boom. Several things are announced within the course of a few months. If things turn out, that's cool, but I'd rather more energy was concentrated on new, exciting titles. There's too much of a reliance on name and sequels nowadays. I don't know if it's the fault of the companies or just scared, burned customers... but I don't know how it could be a good thing. The best things out of Square in the past several years have not been FF games, at least in my opinion, but rather smaller, offbeat titles such as Vagrant Story. Of course, that was largely ignored over here and many who have played it knock it off quickly because they seemingly were expecting some sort of FF-style gameplay. I don't know, that's just my guess lol. I am thinking that this PSP game could be quite cool if it is done in some sort of pseudo-Secret of Mana style though. James
I agree that a reliance on traditional names isn't necessarily a great thing, however, most companies do it. When Nintendo does it I generally don't mind, because they can usually apply an existing set of characters and environments to something that plays in a new way (ie: Luigi's Mansion or something along those lines). I think it's probably true that Square Enix can comfortably focus on the old and the new at the same time. These new games, despite being based on Final Fantasy VII, may still end up feeling quite fresh in their own ways. But who knows; as I mentioned in my last post, I'd rather see a single and comprehensive direct sequel than all of this milking of the name. Although VII had a pretty definable ending, there's an enormous demand out there to revisit its magical world once more. This has happened with plenty of other games, so it's a little disappointing that Square Enix is kind of going overboard with this particular game. My main worry with these games it is that we might be getting quantity, but not quality. That's why a single sequel would be wonderful; a game that their creative minds can focus on completely. Still, we'll see how it goes. With any luck, I will be pleasantly surprised by these games (or at least by one of them).
Meggido
I'm not the biggest FF7 fan though I'm a large FF fan. I know of two spin-offs to FF7 being Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus, but I have not heard of a third spin-off. What is this third spin-off and where can I find information? If you want to look at the official site, it's http://www.square-enix.co.jp/games/psp/ccff7/ I should warn your, the official site is just an advertisement, giving you information such as the release date, the platform, the genre of the game, and the title, so you don't really miss much if you choose not to visit it
Shinmaru
i saw ffac and its pretty cool
Please put more effort into your posts in the future. Your post is off-topic (if you'd like to post about Advent Children, go here) and even if it wasn't, it wouldn't add very much to the topic. Expanding a bit on why you think that Advent Children is cool (and in the proper thread!) would be just fine. A few sentences will do. :)
Monkeyfeet63
Crisis Core I think was announced a long time ago. But never called CC, just a FFVII handheld game. I also rememeber it being announced for the GBA, because at the time, not to long ago but long enough, ads nor psp was out yet. But with all that aside it is of course mainly about zach, and I didn't see anyone mention that the special feature in japans version od AC had a special anime movie that would outline the events of CC. So more FFVII games to me is a good thing. Not because I'm some egnuberant fanboy, but because I want to make some more senese of the damn plot in the original FFVII. So if you want diffrent spin-offs you can always go play FFX-2.
Kura-Chan
Im a massive fan off FF7 but i honestly do think they should lay off a bit on all the spin-off's. Im not complaining about them because i welcome anything ff7 related lol but i would like to see some spin-offy things for the other final fantasy games 2 :catgirl: mayb even some of the older final fantasy games could have an up2date spin off? just a thought
