Mimmsicle
So yes, lately I've had these vague memories of playing a game. It involved Mario and Luigi, some pipes and a 'POW' button. After conferring with my younger sister I decided that it was not merely a fiction of my fever battered brain. She said that it was part of a bonus game in the first Mario Brothers game and that the winner in said bonus games were awarded an extra life (besides the fun of messing with your opponent *cough*). Still, I was pretty sure it was a game in itself and not just a bonus thing in the classic game. Once again my sister agreed, though neither of us got any further than that. So I took it upon myself to search for images (since the title escaped me) and came up with this: If anyone can help me fill in the major blank, please feel free to do so. Any kind of information would be much appreciated and welcomed. This was a favourite game of mine so it would be cool to see if I could hunt it down and play once more ^_^
AzureWolf
Ah yes..., this brings back memories. The picture you have there is a from a four-person gameboy version of the thing, which is surprisingly fun, but it was first a stand-alone nintendo game where you would just keep getting to increasingly tougher levels until both of you died. Yeah, I think whoever got more kills (or coins or ice bergs in some stages) would get a lot of points, which would lead to a one-up. The game was also a sub-game in Super Mario Bros. 3, where you two would meet up and take dibs at who's turn it was. You could do it by being on the same spot as the other player, and a random game would showup. That's all I know, heh.
Solo Tremaine
With Super Mario Bros 3 as part of Super Mario All-Stars on my SNES, I seem to remember this being one of the 2-Player modes of Multiplayer- you basically battled each other until you died as far as I remember, and there wasn't anything else to it than that. I actually didn't like it too much, heh ^_^;. I hardly ever played on it. Since I has Super Mario Kart at the time, that took over most of my multiplayer time.
Brasil
The picture you have there is a from a four-person gameboy version of the thing[/size']
I believe it's a bit farther back than that, actually, lol. The screengrab that Mimmi included here doesn't quite have GBA-quality graphics. ;)
Guest ScirosDarkblade
The original original original game was called Mario Bros. (without the Super) and it looked like that screenshot. Take a look: MARIO BROS What YOU played was probably "battle mode" in Super Mario Bros. 3, because the game was there as well. Shinmaru
Wow, it took four people to answer the question? lol Anyway, as Sciros said, that screen capture is from Mario Bros., which I believe was an arcade game before it was released on the NES. I actually have a copy of the NES game, though I can't really play it much anymore, since my NES doesn't work that well these days. It's still a fun little game if you need an hour or two to kill. Gavin
Actually Shin I think Solo is right, if memory serves that is the multiplayer mode from Super Mario Bros. 3, heh it brings back memories from when I had it for the N.E.S. My brother and I would often just play it for about 2 hours straight to settle an argument over who was better Luigi (whom I always backed) or his chubby brother Mario. Heh good times...
James
Shin is correct. Mario Bros. is the arcade original, which first introduced Mario in his own game (outside Donkey Kong). After that, you had Super Mario Bros. on NES as a full-on sidescroller. After that, Mario Bros. was often used as a bonus feature. It was used in Super Mario Bros. 3 and it was also used in various other games (most noteably, the GBA remakes).
Semjaza
The game even came out in a rather terrible Atari 2600 version. I almost bought it back when it was new... lol
BlueYoshi
The Atari Mario... don't remind me. The many variations of Mario's physical appearence in the early bird games are a disgrace to mankind. I mean, who ever heard of a purple Mario? PURPLE?!!?!
