Alcohol is totally different in what it can do to your body...it's almost not worth comparing. The only thing is that people get addictions to both substances...but one is considered abuse and the other is just an...addiction.

Perhaps I didn't make myself clear...I think I should have said that I'm not promoting or supporting smoking...I'm just saying that the "don't knock until you know" theory is a good one to keep in mind here...

If you look at it in general, Alchohol does the same thing as Ciggeretes except to your liver instead of your Lungs. Lots of teens think drinking is cool and all but tell me this.

What is cool about puking everywhere, not being able to tell up from down, getting arrested, and poising your liver. ]

Using alcholol and ciggerettes should be considered suicide, your basically poising yourself with a slow acting poisin.

Actually, it's like, only American Teen's think Drinking is cool. In Germany, if ur drunk, everyone just laughs their heads off at u and makes fun of u for awhile, in america, ppl don't act that way. Plus, in germany, the drinking age is 14.

A lot of it comes down to how responsible you are...I drink, and I have never passed out or thrown up. I'm fully aware that what I'm doing is illegal and that it is something very not good for me, but I'm enjoy myself and always end up entertaining others. I'm not telling any of you that you should start drinking, because in my personal belief...you shouldn't.

God only knows why I contradict myself

Honestly Cam, I'm not telling people to go out and smoke, I'm just saying that you shouldn't knock people who do smoke when it's their own personal choice. Like I said, I should have been more clear.

She wasent smoking to get popular. Because no one else at my school somkes so she would be doing somthing that know one else does. She did it because she likes it. Although I think she has problems at home she should know better then to bring it to school. and those of you who have never tried it don't try it just to try it. After all the anti drug classes I have had I would never want to do it.

Smoking is nasty as hell, why anyone would want to do it is beyond me. If you think about it, smokers are all commiting suicide, it may not kill you now, but odds are it will later, and since you already know the risks and do it anyway you're technically commiting suicide in a really slow way. It's almost like slitting your wrists, or shooting yourself, you know the risks and know you most likely will die, but you do it anyway, that's what smoking is only alot slower, which actually makes it worse in my opinion. And plus smoking worse than inhaling any poison, because it has not only one poison.... But 101 of them, including the very chemical that's in toilet bowl cleaners, do you really want that crap in your lungs? Only a human would poison themselves, things like that make me wonder why humans are the dominant species on earth, I mean sometimes animals seem smarter than us. Animals don't pollute themselves, their environment, or destroy their own environment, or kill for the hell of it, only humans are that stupid.

On the basis of stupid things a kid in my school brought guns to school. And it wasn't to go on an irate shooting rampage, the guns were unloaded and he had no ammo with him. It was to sell them to someone else. Now why in hell would you bring guns to school to sell them!? When you could do it after school and not even get in trouble!? The level of intelligence in some people never ceases to amaze me.

cigs have rat poisoning in them too..

i dislike when people say when smoking is a personal choice because dispite the fact that your the one smoking, other people still are effected by you doing it, it could be anything from just smelling your nasty smoke breath or clothes, to inhaling your second hand smoke (which is worse then actually smoking.. its like breathing car fumes). not only do smokers clothes smell bad, but anyone's who is in the same house/room as a smoker has smelly clothes then too.. honesly i dont like my clothes smelling bad.. infact one time i visited my friend.. he smokes now.. and so does his parents.. and when i got home dad asked me if i had been smoking.. ¬_¬ ..

heres some brain food, theres this old man that lives down the street from me..
he was a smoker, his wife always was telling him to quit smoking.. he would tell her that it was his choice.. and that its his body he was harming.. then one day she had to goto the hospital(sp?) for some reason.. i forget why.. stroke, heart attack or somthing.. and he went to visit her.. she had lung cancer.. she died.. she died of second hand smoke.. after that he quit.. :( anyways.. this is just proof that smoking dosn't only effect you.. but everyone around you

uuuggh..this topic is begining to get ridiculous.

first of all, drinking & smoking is not an automatic death sentance. my grandfather does both, he's 95 years old & is one of the healthiest & most vibrant people i know. secondly, there was a time when people drank nothing but alcohol b/c the water wasn't safe. i'm talking of b.c. times to the 19th century. lots of people drink, there's nothing wrong w/ it in moderation. emphasis on the "moderation". it's only a problem if you go overboard, if you can't live w/out it. only weak people succomb.

Well, I do know that some alcohol is actually beneficial for you.

Doctors say that it's healthy to drink a glass of wine each day, because it helps to lower cholesterol and assists the heart.

But I guess it's the old saying of "anything in moderation".

Alcohol itself isn't bad, if you drink alochol in moderation...and only have fairly small amounts...it won't harm you at all. I only ever drink at parties or when I go out somewhere...and when I do that, I don't drink a great deal.

I've never been drunk or sick from drinking...and when I see people getting drunk at a party, I instantly feel sorry for them...because the make themselves look like idiots and they go home sick...or pass out...and miss out on the fun.

People who get drunk don't have enough self control with alcohol, and in my view, getting drunk is more immature than drinking a small amount.

As for smoking...well...smoking is one of those things that should either be illegal, or the government should charge a 300% tax on packets of cigarettes.

My parents both smoke, and as a result, I have mild asthma.

There is no way in hell you can justify smoking. I mean, if you were sitting in a little dark room with no windows or doors...and it was only affecting you...then fine. You can sit there and make yourself utterly sick.

But when you are smoking around others, it's not healthy. Lady Macaiodh mentioned her grandfather...well...he is an incredibly lucky man not to have died already. And does he have any sickness? Any coughing? He must have something of that nature. If he doesn't...as I said, he's lucky.

99% of smokers suffer from some sort of ailment. Even if you smoke occasionally, you still hurt those around you.

So I have no sympathy for smokers and I feel that people who smoke (especially at a young age) have incredibly low will power.

I sometimes see young kids smoking...like...14 year olds and such. And I feel a mixture of sadness for them...and a feeling of anger as well. It makes me sick that young kids can be so stupid, despite all the education there is these days for smoking.

Anyway...I've rambled long enough.

But in my opinion, there's never a justification for smoking. If you want to do it...go into the forest where you won't hurt anyone. But otherwise, I think it's totally fair to tell smokers to go outside or whatever...and not smoke in buildings. Yes, it's a choice...but it can only be upheld if it doesn't hurt other people.

I don't get the point of smoking... why do something that'll come back to kill you?

there was an ad. on TV here where they cut up a lung and showed how much tar a person would have if they were a regualr smoker..... I woulda thought the lung woulda exploded or something if there was that much tar in it.... definately put my mind off ever smoking.... not that I ever wanted to in the first place... it's just stupid.... sorta like like commiting suicide, but slowly....

Exactly, why would you want a ciggerette to try and make your life better, when it'll kill you. Some people try smoking, because they think it will make them feel better and make their life better, but it doesn't.........

And I saw that ad. It's gross........

But it's the truth... which is what people should know and understand.... they should be aware what actually goes on when you smoke... each cigarette is meant to reduce your life by 5 mins... or something like that...

Yeah, there's an idiot in my grade at school, called Andrew, and he smokes...........geez, he's only 12/13 years old,.........what an idiot,...................but he wouldn't understand that ad anyway, it's too "complicated" for his little brain too understand..........

It is the truth, if only more smokers took notice of it..........

I'm not flaming people who started to smoke a while back.... they probably didn't know what they were getting themselves into.... as they only started to publicise the health risks of smoking recently and I know it's hard to quit.... I sympathise with them... I really do.... it's the ones who start smoking now... when they've been told many times over how bad it is... the ones who choose to ignore all the advice.... so yeah... sorry if I was a bit unlcear.... I don't hate smokers either.... it's their choice...

it is a personal choice to smoke. How other people get affected is there fault. personally, everytime someone smokes near me, i go away from them. I don't care if people want to breath through a hole in there neck, let them.

I used to smoke. I quit when my grand dad had to have a triple heart bypass because he did it for so long. He would've needed a quadruple, if the fourth part of his heart wasn't just scared tissue. However, I do drink. I drink regularly and I have never been sick or completely drunk in my entire life. It takes quite a bit to get me drunk and I usually am not at a party long enough or don't have enough alcohol in my house to get dead drunk.
