Though they are but children, they represent the greatest hope of our race...

They will sleep for thousands of years, if we have survived we shall come to find them....

If we should meet out doom then they can be the light of a next generation...

-----------------

Twelve thousand years ago the civilisation of the Ancients was being decimated by a disease of unknown origin, with thousands of seeded worlds across many galaxies it was impossible to save them all, even for the Ancients. In desperation and with little hope left to find a cure, they believed the key to defeating the plague was to place over two dozen of their young adults in cryogenic stasis, to sleep for thousands of years. This would insure that even if the civilisation of the Ancients was to fall there would be some hope left for it's reconstruction, the twenty eight were picked from the most gifted children of the entire Ancient Race. Their keepers were to be a race in whom the Ancients could see potential, the Asgard.

Many of those against the project believed that a cure would be found before such drastic measures were to be taken, they were merely children and as such would not understand the gravity of what they were being asked to do. They argued that if worst came to worst then these children would be left frightened and alone under the supervision of a race who's path was not yet clear, it was to condemn them to a more slow and painful death than the disease which had begun to destroy their civilisation. And so it was given to those precious few chosen that it would be their decision whether or not to accept this mission for their people, to be entrusted with their very survival. Those arguing against it informed the children that they would be the last of their race and would likely not see another of their kind for the rest of eternity.

Amongst themselves the children accepted the task they were being asked to accomplish, it would be long and difficult although the sleeping period would seem as the blinking of an eye. They could not be allowed to stay on Atlantis, if it too fell then there was no telling what would happen to those who remained inside in stasis. A lone scholar suggested placing them on the First World, Terra, where the Ancient civilisation had grown from, though it too has suffered the effects of the virus there was hope in those akin to the Ancients, who seemed unaffected, they too showed potential though not for many thousands of years. Again argument broke out as to where to sent the children, the Asgard although powerful did not have the means to travel throughout the broadness of Ancient territory, and as such may not have been able to protect the children.

The only viable option was to build a completely new home for them, the First Galaxy was chosen, though Terra could not be used for fear another race might encounter the city and use it's technology in the ways of war. With almost daily quarrels breaking out of where to locate this new city the decision was once again left to the children who would be inhabiting it, it was debated that it was the only fair thing to do. Again the children took council among one another, many worlds in the First Galaxy were inhabitable, though few fitted into the required parameters. After many days the youths returned with their choice, the city would be located on the planet of Precalis, a small world far from many of the other gated worlds in the First Galaxy. The decision was theirs, the task begun.

And so they slept for thousands of years, the vast knowledge of the Ancients being introduced to their minds, for every millennium that passed they would age a year, and so when they would awaken they would be as adults. Fourteen males and fourteen females, within each the light of all those who had come before them, from those fourteen the Ancients would rise once again. It was hoped to be enough...

-----------------

And so we have our plotline, I quite like the introduction as it just popped into my head while I was writing it. As you might have guessed from both the title and the storyline this is an RPG based on Stargate, but more correctly it is and RPG based on the enigmatic Ancients. The RPG will work around an "Episode System" as begun by Bill (Jokopoko) in his last Star Trek RPG, I give the basic premise of the story at the beginning of an Episode and we work pretty much from there, think of this like being a TV series. The one thing I will say is that this in not an RPG for those who just want to have a quick go and leave it after 30 posts, this will be a long RPG, I'm thinking of it lasting up to 1000 replies, something that has been done before though it does take the right people to do so.

The first Episode itself will be based around the waking up of these youths, the Ancients are gone, or ascended rather and they have little interesting in the children left behind. And error in the computer mainframe has meant that certain portions of their memories are not accessible right now, meaning that some parts of Ancient technology will not be available right away. In fact right at the beginning of the RPG they will have no memories of who they and of where they're from, the Asgard as their trusted guardians have left several holographic messages though with the Replicator war still in effect they can't actually contact the children. The series will run parallel to SG-1 and Atlantis though SG-1 will have the greater influence since it's set in the same galaxy, I may introduce SG-1 and the Tau'ri at some stage but not for at least 7/8 episodes.

If you have any questions about the RPG you can post them in the Underground thread I'll be creating after this. Now we move onto the Character Sign up and that'll be pretty much it, thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy it.

-----------------

Character Sign Up

Name:
Please note that the Ancients do have exotic names so be creative.

Age:
Since everyone was frozen between the ages of 8/12 you'll wake up between the ages of 20/24.

Sex:
Male or females, that's pretty much it.

Homeworld:
Remember that there were thousands of seeded worlds, as such people shouldn't be from the same place,
as such I?ll give people the freedom of naming and describing their homeworld.

Position:
Though they were all equals as children once reaching adulthood a certain hierarchy had to be put in place,
as each child was selected because of their skills they will fulfil that role in the new city.
Please pick from the below list.

First Commander
The overall leader of the group, I may take this spot or give it to an NPC so it?s not available.

Second Commander
Assists the First Commander and sees to the day to day running of the city.

First Engineer
The chief Engineer of the city, insures all systems are operating normally.

First Physician
Insures the overall health of the populous.

First Guardian
The Guardians maintain security in the city as well as it?s defence.

First Precursor
Leads expeditions through the Stargate, I can see this being a sought after position.

First Savant
Chief scientist of the city, gets to make all the wonderful gadgets we use.

First Scholar
Keeper of the City Library, provides required information.

To each of these positions there is also a Second (Except Second Commander),
or in some cases even more as certain city sectors require multiple specialists:

Engineers ? 6 (First and Second Engineers as well as 4 Third Engineers)
Physcians ? 4 (Again First and Second as well as 2 Third Physicians)
Guardians ? 8 (First and Second as well as 6 Third Guardians)
Savant ? 4 (First and Second as well as 2 Third Savants)

So even if you don?t get the spot you want there?s still a chance to get another.

Appearance:
Pretty standard, what you loom like, a picture will do as we'll as be wearing the same clothing

Personality:
Again the standard, what you're like as a person

Biography:
Your personal history up until this point

One last thing, have fun and be creative.

Character Sign Up

Name: Jeran'kar Gehan [Pronounced Je-Ran-Kar Gee-Han]

Age: 24

Sex: Male

Homeworld: Antari. Antari was one of the many capital planets of the first galaxy so the Ancients would be able to control portions of there space that was far from the first planet Terra. While it had a sprawling metropolis of city scape the people also took care of the land and made sure there were many places where nothing could be built and people could be one with the planets nature. Jeran crew up in the outskirts of the first city so he has always had a touch for the nature of each world and is unlikely to allow a course of action that will result in the planet itself coming to harm. [Description will be longer soon]

Position: First choice is the Second Commander, second choice is the First Savant.

Name: Sephris Gehan (Sister of Jeran'kar)

Age: 21

Sex: Female

Homeworld:
Antari
Antari was one of the many capital planets that the Ancients founded after they spread far and wide from Terra and were no longer able to keep a hold over the vast stretch of galaxy they now inhabited. Antari was known for the beauty of the planets plant life which grew in a myriad of different ways with each look more beautiful than the last. Due to the beauty of the world around them the Ancients which inhabited Antari did not wish to build structures in the planet so the asked for help from the Nox to solve the dilemma. Instead of using the same floatation device the Nox used the two races developed a method to ?grow? the cites from nature so they emulated the natural environment while still allowing the Ancients whom dwelt there to power the cities with the Zero Point Modulators and integrate their technology, such as the Stargate dialler, into the ?bark? of the panels and still be able to use them.

During Sephris' time on Antari, she loved the place and didn't think anything of it. She just liked it, and as a child she was always looking for something to do there, or looking for new things she hadn't seen yet. The fact that the Antari was beautiful had on occasions occurred to Spehris, but she never took the beauty to seriously and just considered it a home.

Position: First Guardian (if not possible, then Second Guardian for me)

Appearance:

Personality: Sephris is a hard type of person who is nice but also quite harsh to some. She is loyal and nice to people she knows or respects and is a bit harsh to people she doesn't like. Her "evaluation" of people is normally on first impressions, but sometimes she can change her impression. Basically, Sephris acts like most people would: she gives people she doesn't like a hard time and people she does like an easy ride. Sephris is also a very determine person and won't give up on something. She always tries her best even if it isn't good enough. She is also always trying to be better than she is and hates people who don't trust her or give her a chance. Because Sephris will trust most people, she always wants to be trusted as well, and likes it when she is. Sephris has a good way of hiding her dissapiontment and sometimes even fear, so she doesn't speak out often and leaves the talking to other people.

When Sephris is told something she will do it, but if there isn't a good reason then she won't. Even though she won't speak out with her own opinons, Sephris isn't one to be told what to do. From a higher rank than her, then yes she will, but only with good reasons. She is hard to scare in some cases and in danger Sephris will do whatever it takes to get out of danger. She isn't open to talking about things and normally keeps anything strange or weird going on to herself. Another thing is that Sephris is loyal, and will not break a promise or give away a secret.

Sephris is also open to a good joke or laugh sometimes, but when the situation is serious her attention is always on the situation. She tries to stay calm and focused all the time and try not to lose control of herself in any tense situations.

Bio: I've started rewriting this bio in Word, so hopefully I'll have it up soon.

Name: Ashti Hiatu

Age: 20

Sex: Female

Homeworld: Akai
Akai is a land known for it's many mountain ranges, vast lakes and forests. The people there have tried to stay with tradition and therefore life in the same style houses that were there thousands of years ago.... even though they also have a large part in the technology industry.

On the outside, buildings are made of light red stone and have a very old design. They are tall but thin and usually have three to four floors each, including a basement. On the inside, however, these buildings are usually kitted out with the most up to date technology and styles, they are actually quite beautiful.

The countryside itself is very barren, except when you come across a forest; they are lush and beautiful, seeming to be very out of place amongst the dusty mountains and dark coloured lakes. Another landmark is the lakes, they are not blue or even green like most, but a very dark red, almost brown colour. People would usually think that they are dirty but the water is pure and very healthy.

Position: First Savant would be my first choice; my second would be First Scholar.

Appearance: Ashti

Personality: Ashti is overall a very nice person. She enjoys other people's company and can make good conversation, but she would never say that she is popular by any means. She likes to keep to herself if she can help it and enjoys her own space, just writing or thinking. She can be over-serious at times, especially during a difficult situation. She will shut other people out and focus solely on the situation at hand, which would definitely be one of her weak points. Despite that, she makes a good team player and always tries to help wherever she can, she enjoys learning about things and has always been fascinated by different planets and races.

Bio: Ashti came from a very well educated background, her father being a leading researcher and her mother a scientist. Jobs of that sort seemed to run in the family and it was only fair for Ashti's parents to assume that she would take the same path.

At first she was not so sure and preferred to stay quiet and indecisive, even though she thoroughly enjoyed those days when her mother or father would bring her in to see all the new gadgets they were working on. The young girl, she was only around 7 at the time, revelled in all the mathematics and technology and eventually warmed up to her parent?s ideals.

When Ashti was approached to be one of the chosen children to go into hibernation, she was shocked. Her parents had not yet explained the extent of the deadly disease for fear of scaring their only child. But the young girl was ready to accept any responsibilities and met up with the rest of the group of children. Once they had decided where they would rest, Ashti bid her final goodbyes to her family and parents before leaving with the rest of the children until she would be needed again.

Name: Lévas Õau (think Owww)

Age: 23

Sex: Male

Homeworld: Veritos
Veritos is a very small planet when compared to most of the other in the Ancients vast empire. The diameter of the planet is only about 2,500 miles across (4000 kilometers) and has an unusually cool climate. The average temperature is somewhere in the neighborhood of 44 degrees ferinheight (7 celcius). Plantlife is very hearty considering the coolness of the planet. The atmosphere is extremely thick, not letting a lot of heat in from the blue sun. Snow is normally found on the ground throughout all the seasons, even if it melts during the day.

Veritos is one of the leading raw material manufacturers of the entire Ancient empire. Their outer mantle is composed of almost 30% naquadria. They mine it with all the care of a mother with a newborn child. Everyday they barely scrape out fifty lbs. of the stuff. But it adds up. Every pound of naquadria they take out is replaced by another element with nearly the same mass, so that the mass of the planet isn't disturbed. Extreme longterm effects are still unknown, but nothing has happened since they began mining just under a thousand years ago.
Position: First Engineer or First Physician

Appearance: Lévas

Personality: Lévas is a very compassionate person. He'll go out of his way to help someone or to keep the peace. When it comes to a job, he will never stop until it's finished. He usually puts others needs in front of his own, but like everyone he still has the twang of self preservation. He can take orders and give them out, as well as being stict if he needs to, though he doesn't enjoy it much. Lévas, from an early age, developed a barrier of doubt in his mind. He knew he could do the things, but never exactly felt that he could do them to the standards of perfection, which is what everything should be done as.

Biography: Lévas grew up in one of the remote mining outposts of Veritos. He was trained in his fathers craft as an engineer from the moment he was old enough to hold the tools. By eight he was working in the pits with his father full-time, and learning almost everything he was allowed to on a daily basis. He mastered the crystal technology of the ancients by nine, and also had a fair knowlegge of healing. At ten years of age, he was approached with the offer of being one of several saviors to their race. He had heard rumors of the disease, and even comprehended it fairly well, but to know how incredibly bleak the situation had gotten shocked him to his core. Lévas accepted and joined the other children in deliberation of where their sleeping place would be. They came to the conclusion and were put into hybernation. He was afraid. Most of all he didn't want to lose his family, but there were more important things than his wants at stake. But... He didn't know if he could do it...
???
I'd like to point out that I'm rather dissapointed with my bio. I feel it's too short, but with only eleven years of life, most of which was spent in a mine shaft, I doubt it could be drawn out any longer without cramping the quality of it significantly.
Kane, I doun't think you should judge anyone on their bios very harshly in the RPG. It's something that's very hard to do considering that memories start somewhere around age four or five.

As I said in my new update this is just most of my sign up, I'm still writing up the personality and biography sections but I should have those done within 24 hours.

Character Sign Up

Name:
Ventarris Aquel.

Age:
12 when frozen so he is now 24.

Sex:
Male

Homeworld:
Proclarush Taonas

Proclarush Taonas was once a considered a jewel of the Ancient Civilisation, that was long ago and all that is left of the world now is a barren wasteland covered by magma. At it?s height Proclarush was considered to be one of the most beautiful as well as scientifically diverse worlds in the entire Ancient Territories, much like Antari it was frequented by those who wished to explore and experience all that the Galaxy had to offer. Taonas had been colonised thousands of years before hand, when the Ancients had first begun to move away from Terra using ships, though in it?s heyday the Stargate was one of the only means of long distance travel. Close to Furling territory, one of the Ancients first allies, Taonas was also used as a meeting ground for discussion between the Ancients, Furlings, Nox and Asgard, though the Asgard were still considered slightly young.

First Commander

Update: 11/11/04

This is a replacement update to the last one, mainly because I?ve had a chance to go over the sign ups more than I did the first time around and see things that either needed to be changed over just weren?t up to scratch. There were some things that stuck out as me as re-read what has been written so far, if anyone has any questions you can find the Underground thread in my signature and just pretty much follow on from there. I?m just going to give a run through of what I think of everyone?s sign ups so far and what if anything needs to be changed:

Jokopoko: Shaping up well finish up what you have to, you?re Second Commander since you asked first.

Vicky: Great sign up, the only real problem I have is with the biography, however as many people have made the same mistake I?ll address it at the end of the update. As you asked for First Guardian, so shall you be.

Methuselah: Again like Bill?s it?s shaping up well just finish it out, First Savant for you though you might want to brush up on Ancient Technology from that site I gave you.

Corey: Even though you had a hard time with the Bio section it came out pretty well, overall I?m very happy with your sign up, First Engineer is now your position.

Sword Breaker: One major thing struck out at me as I read your sign up SB and that would be that you claim your character has been infected by the virus, that is completely out of the question. If your character even showed the slightest hint of the virus he would not have been allowed take part in the mission, I mean that virus practically wiped out the Ancients and your guy just gets better and has a few weird physical side effects ? I?m afraid that?s unacceptable and you?ll just have to change it. A few things as well in your description of your homeworld stuck out at me:

1] The Ancients were the First Race, the oldest race in our galaxy, as such there wouldn?t have been many to trade with, and even then there wouldn?t have been a concept of trade. As Vicky pointed out the Furlings and the Nox would probably have been the only two that the Ancients had any dealings with as even at that stage the Asgard were considered young. Yes there probably were races like the Goa?uld (with Unas as hosts) as well as humans but not to the degree that the Ancients would have had open dialogs with them. Since we also know almost nothing of the Furlings I can?t tell you anything about their society, the Nox however were intertwined with nature and as such wouldn?t have ventured from their homes often.

2] Economics had no bearing in Ancient Society, there was no concept of money or social class distinctions, i.e. your character couldn?t have come from a Middle Class home because there is no Middle Class, everyone lived and worked under the same situations as anyone else. Best example I can give you is to look at the Federation from Star Trek, which?s close but not 100% correct.

3] Ralph wouldn?t have had ?rulers? as such, yes there would have been a hierarchy in place but their leaders would have been elected, as well as this Ralph wouldn?t have even had rulers because it would have been governed from the Ancient Homeworld. The basic hierarchical structure would have been a ruling council like the Asgard have but again they would have worked from the Ancient Homeworld.

Mainly I?d just ask you to look at other people?s sign ups and scrap your current one and come back with a new one.

As I said I?m going to address the overall problems with Bios now, Sword Breaker?s sign up gave me a chance to point out what the Ancient Hierarchy would have been like, very much like the current Asgard Society if you want to try and get a good mental picture. It?s kind of hard to exactly say how I would like bio?s, I?ve edited my previous update and replaced it with my sign up if you?d like to have a look. Children of the Ancients would more than likely have not had a childhood as we know it, already born with greater intellects than most human genius?s they would have been raised to ascend to their role in society, i.e. a child who showed great potential in Engineering would have been trained from youth in that area of expertise. They would have had social interaction with others though not as normal children would, i.e. going out and having adventures wouldn?t really have been the norm, if you?ve ever seen Superman the Movie that gives a very good idea of their society.

Well that?s really it.

Update: 19/11/04

Hmm well if this is to continue I guess I might as well update, as well as ask those who've had their sign ups accepted if they're still interested in participating. Ugamon since you were banned before I had a chance to reject you're sign up I really didn't bother correcting it. I'm also going to reject this new one you've posted, there are a whole load of problems with it, one of the major ones being it looked just slapped together a few minutes before you posted it.

There are numerous spelling, capitalisation and grammatical mistakes, as well as this I'm not happy with your Biography and Personality sections. In terms of the biography section it bares a lot of the same problems Sword Breaker's had, this plague infecting the Ancients and your guy getting moved, I would once again like to point out the Ancients were (and still are) the most advanced civilisation in the galaxy. As such their medical technology would have easily been able to deal with a minor plague without needing to shut down their facilities.

If the plague you're referring to is the same Wraith Plague that nearly wiped them out then I'm afraid you're character would never had been allowed on the mission, after all the children selected were to rebirth the Ancient species, so allowing someone who was in the same area as the virus to join the group would be a serious no-no. You're personality section also seems to be very thrown together and short as well as having a very n00b feel to it. Basically I'd advise you to look at other people's sign ups and see just come up with a new sign up altogether.
