Sui Generis
I have only read THE HOBBIT due to the fact that most of our stores here are sold out of THE LORD of THE RINGS series...I thought THE HOBBIT was great, it kept my attention the whole time and I love Tolein's writing style....However I can not wait till the movie comes it...It looks awesome, and if it is anything like what I have heard about the book, I am sure it will be fantastic!!:excited:

Guest steve
:cool:yes i`ve read those books as a child as well..and the other books names are the lost tales of middle earth 1,2,3..all of which where put together by his son chris tolkien..see tolkien only finished the hobbit and the three lord of the rings books but he had other stories about middle earth before the rings saga.. the lost tales are unfinished works. these were things that were only a few paragraphs, small stories, poems, some were unfinished sentences and others were in such bad condistion that chris tolkien couldn`t tell what was said...tolkien made his own world in his writings i mean his own language combining latin, greek and many others..he also left clues in how to decrip his language in his books..he made his own culture and famly trees about his characters in the stories..also he makes things sould like things from this world, like say someone in the books is telling a story to someone else.one story made a person sound like he was hitler by that he did things just about the same way hitler did. i think tolkien did that because he was in the war? also he did things like this poem for exsample.... There is a inn, a merry old inn beneath an old grey hill, and there they brew a beer so brown that the man on the moon came down one night to drink his fill. The ostler has a tipsy cat that plays a five-stringed fiddle; and up and down he runs his bow, now squeaking high, now purring low, now sawing in the middle. The landlord keeps a little dog that is mighty fond of jokes; when there`s good cheer among the guests, he cocks an ear at all the jests and laughs until he chokes. They also keep a horned cow as proud as any queen; but music turns her head like ale, and makes her wave her tufted tail and dance upon the green. And O! the rows of silver dishes and store of silver spoons! for sunday there`s a special pair, and these they polish up with care on saturday afternoons. The man in the moonwas drinking deep, and the cat began to wail; a diah and a spoon on the table danced, the cow in the garden madly pranced, and the little dog chased his tail. The man in the moon took another mug, and then rolled beneath his chair; and there he dozed and dreamed of ale, till in the sky the stars were pale, and dawn was in the air. Then the ostler said to his tipsy cat: "the white horses of the moon, they neigh and champ their silver bits; but their master`s been drawned his wits, and the sun`ll be rising soon!" So the cat on his fiddle played hey-diddle,diddle a jig that would wake the dead; he squeaked and sawed and quicked the tune, while the landlord shook the man in the moon: "it`s after three!" he said. They roll the man slowly up the hill and bundled him in to the moon, while his horses galloped up in rear, and the cow came capering like a deer, and a dish ran up with a spoon. Now quicker the fiddle went deedle-dum diddle; the dog began to roar, the cow and the horses stood on their heads; the guests all bounded from their beds and danced upon the floor. With a ping and a pong the fiddle-strings broke! the cow jumped over the moon, and the little laughed to see such fun, and the saturday dish went off at a run with the sunday spoon. The round moon rolled behind a hill, as the raised up her head, she hardly beleived her fiery eyes; for thought it was day, to her suprise they all went back to bed! well i think that is awsome as hel and tolkien was a one of a kind.i`ve read all of his works and i admire him and i hope one day to write in a way like this man did..(not like he did) but the way he did ground braking.anyways i hope someone likes this post.it`s 420 got to go...

Stormbringer
The book that is spoken of, that is 4 stories, is the Silmarilion. It tells how the whole world of Tolkien came about. Long a heck, and boring at many places, but good none the less. Expect to take a lot of time reading it. The 3rd book in the Lord of the Rings series is Return of the King.
