Erika
Y'know, I discovered the oddest thing in video games. Well, it happens to me anyways... Like in Mario Sunshine, I remember thinking negative thoughts, or just thinking out a personal problem, or anything of the sort (and it was usually negative, lol). Like, it's probably been MONTHS since I've played Mario Sushine, but whenever I go back to an area, such as Rico Harbor/the treetops in Bianca Hills, memories of thoughts I had once thought about there in the past automatically fill my head. Like I'm thinking that stuff all over again, as of it never happened before, lol. -_o; It's rather akward, and kinda annoying, too, cause I don't wanna think that stuff all over again. Isn't that the most oddest gaming experience? I was wondering if anyone had ever experienced this odd deja vu-ness when a game is played, and I don't mean nostaliga, either. :p
James
Yeah, I've definitely had this feeling. I kind of think that it's the reverse of nostalgia. ~_^ When I play old 2D Sonic games for example, I don't just think about the game itself. These games remind me what life was like in the early 90's. So much more carefree than today, when I had no responsibilities and when all I ever did was have fun. So I think that's part of the reason why those games can have such appeal. In terms of the reverse...I'm not really sure. I can't really think of any games that actually bring back bad memories about certain things.
Pumpkin
I think I kinda get what your saying. Everytime I see a supernintendo, and this happened just recently, i was babysitting a kid and he had one. We were playing all the mario games, the really old ones like Mario 3 and Super Mario World. Donkey Kong 1&2. To me those are the games I use to play and beat when i was a kid and just remembered how fun it was for me :D and how they just seem like classics. I think as cheesy as it sounds, we all have games that make us remember the old times. Like I remember the first Final Fantasy, and i was like what is this? and remember riding on my first chocobo lol I also remember Golden Eye being the first gun game i found interesting. Ah, those were the good ol'days.
BlueYoshi
I don't get bad memories from playing games at all; it's not like they remind me of any traumatic experiences I might have had in the past. If that was the case then I obviously wouldn't play video games, or at least not the games that would've triggered any memories. Mario Sunshine is funny though, because whenever I play it, I get this feeling in my gut about what it was like when I first bought the game. Nothing bad, mind you. I dunno, it's weird, but I'm thinking that it might have something to do with how life was back then as compared to the hardships I face today, because I can tell you, life was a barrel of laughs some two years ago... and I loved it. :D You never know though, I might feel the same way about some other game I play today in two years time, so there's no point in groping about it. Just better make the most of it, I suppose.
Desbreko
I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes I'll be thinking or talking about something while playing a game, and then when I go back and replay the game, I'll remember those thoughts or the conversation when I come to that part of the game again. The instance of this that I remember best was from the first time I was going through the Bottom of the Well in Zelda: Ocarina of Time; I even remember the exact spot down there that the memory is linked to. ... Though unfortunately, I forget now what the bit of conversation was. I was talking with my brothers about something or other, but I forget what exactly. But I remember that the second time I played through OOT and went through that part, I suddenly recalled very clearly and just out of the blue what we had been talking about. It really is an odd feeling. Usually when this happens to me, though, it's with completely random crap that has no significance whatsoever. Random thoughts, conversations, or feelings that aren't particularly happy or sad or anything, and that I never seem to remember any other time except when the memory happens to be triggered while playing the game. It's really funky, but I kind of like that feeling of "Oh yeah..." that I get when it happens.
Erika
LOL. I have no clue as to why that happens! :p It's just so ODD. I'm amazed that Des came closest to what I was describing, lol. For example, I remember feeling moody while trying to collect 100 coins in Bianca Hills, and I kept thinking about my best friend, his girlfriend, and how his other friend kept randomly taking stabs at me (well, not the gf) over AIM, and why they kept doing that, and how frusterated and confused I felt at the moment. So, whenever I spray the treetops for coins I get those thoughts back into my head, albeit those thoughts are about half a year old, lol. The same exact thoughts. It doesn't matter how good of a mood I'm in, whether or not I'm brooding, it just happens. :twitch: The oddest thing is? Only 3D platformers/adventure games do that to me, lol. RPGs never do that, or anything else. I guess when you're in games where you wander around, your mind starts to pick up on that. :whoops: Maybe it's because I focus more on the game when it's an RPG, racer, fighter, shooter, etc.
