Has anyone ever seent his anime? I've seen a preview on Media Player, and I thought the art wasn't that bad.

From what I can gather, there are special children that are called "Blade Children". Someone or thing is trying to kill them.

Really vague, but if someone has more info, please post away!

Spiral is considered to be a detective anime, for whatever that's worth. I'm pretty much in the same boat as you are--I have an interest in the series but don't know whether I should actually bother to buy/borrow/rent it. The general consensus seems to be that Spiral is a good series with an open ending... so if you need solid closure, this may not be the show for you.

It's from FUNimation, which means that the dub is probably going to be decent. The director is the same man who took care of animation direction for the Revolutionary Girl Utena movie, and because of that I'd be willing to bet that Spiral must have appealing visuals and art.

ANN's summary says "Ayumu Narumi's older brother Kiyotaka, a renowned detective and piano player, disappears all of sudden. The only clue Narumi has are the Blade Children. Two years later a row of murders and incidents begin, relating to the Blade Children. Together with the school journalist, Hiyono Yuizaki, Narumi tries to figure out their destiny."

That's unfortunately not too helpful, so I guess I'll join you in calling for information, opinions, etc. ^_^;;

It took a while for the name to registered in my brain... but anyways, I've herd a bit about Spiral and from what I've herd I am pretty eager to see it. Newtype USA had an article on it last month so I guess I could try and sum that up.

.
It's coming out on DVD this month (November), and is being dubbed by FUNimation.

"Ayumu Narumi is a seemingly regular high school student, except for the fact that his brother is the famous detective and pianist Kiyotaka Narumi, and he disappeared two years ago. The only real clue young Ayumu has is that his bro was investigating a mysterious group/cult called the Blade Children; his disappearance came just as he was getting close to breaking the case wide open."

ok... blah, blah, blah Ayumu starts to investigate about the Blade Children after a murder happens in his school. It's 25 episodes long and is being compared to Case Closed. Ayumu is helped by his friend/reporter Kiyono Yuizaki and his sister in law, a police inspector named Madoka. A few of the Blade Children are Eyes, a celebrated pianist and card-carrying member, Kousuke, and it looks like (from one of the pictures in my magazine) a little girl with pigtails holding a bunny stuffed animal. ?I?ll try and find out her name? agg Absolute Anime doesn?t have any info on any of the characters? but apparently its called Spiral: Suiri no Kizuna or Spiral: Lines of Reasoning
?Hope that helps!^^

Also found a website in the magazine... don't know if I'm aloud to write it. If I am its www.spiral.tv if I?m not I can just delete it. I just checked it and all it has is a trailer:(

 • 1 year later...
I watched the whole of Spiral and I can definitely advise it to you if you're into the mystery stuff. Not like detectives, but more like slightly supernatural mysteries.

I really loved Spiral myself, even the ending which many people didn't like because it didn't answer every question. I don't think they need to be answered and they fit the show's air well.

My favourite characters are Eyes, Kousuke and Rio.

My favourite pairings are Ayumu x Hiyono and Kanone x Eyes.

I ended up watching Spiral this past fall. I wish Tokyopop would hurry up and rescue the manga from licensing hell; I really want to know what happens to Kanone later on in the series. He ended up being my favorite character by a ridiculously huge margin. Of the females, I suppose I like Rio the best, although none of them really stood out for me.

Not too surprisingly, KanonexEyes is my favorite pairing. Oh the angst. :)

I love spiral though i haven't finished it yet. I have one more volume to go. I would have to say it's kind of the mystery time of anime. Not really detective stuff. It's very good, I know I enjoyed it alot. I let my friend watch it and the other other animes she saw were Wolf's Rain and Saiyuki. But she loves Spiral. I have to say my favorite character would be Kousuka, ayumu, and eyes.

This one does leave you with many question while your watching it. I know that's how it was for me. And I'm sure it was that way for others. But it's super good and I say everone should check it out.

I really like Ayumu as well but he has too little confidence for my liking. ^^; I often tend to get annoyed easily with people or characters who think they're good for nothing.

Did anyone else love the music theme that appeared whenever Ayumu would solve a mystery. I <3 it!

Yes! That theme was fabulous. I thought it added a lot to the series. For some reason, I have it in my head that a good mystery/detective show needs some really catchy, exciting "Aha!" music. The theme in Spiral fits that requirement perfectly. And it was the cherry on top during my favorite moment in the entire show: the scene during which
Hiyono threw the key down to Ayumu from the train.
Yup that scene was completely class! You kept wondering how Ayumu would get out of it this time and those episodes might have just been my favourite from the bunch! x3

well, most people in this world are not that confident.that makes ayumu similar to our society.and he still STILL solves the mystery with a sence of confidence.
unlike EYES who has white hair like an old man, he so fake only people like (my friend) can belive that eyes is better. :p undefinedundefined

Just to be contrary: Kanone >> Eyes >>>>> Ayumu. :p

Ayumu is not a bad character or anything, but his lack of confidence is irritating. If it were brilliantly portrayed (a la Shinji's insecurity and weakness in Evangelion), that would be something different. I didn't find Ayumu's inferiority complex to be especially compelling; it was just something he was inevitably going to get over, given time, and they harped on it a little too much.

The best part relating to that was how
Rio beat him for the first time in the hospital.
It actually made sense that lack of confidence would cause him to make a dire mistake, given his dilemma, and it wasn't just a matter of randomly thrusting "believe in yourself" into the situation.

lets just say u have a 50% chance of choosing either life or death. that a big BIG bet there, when your life is in the game confidence isnt really that important. wats important would just be the luck... which Ayumu has plenty of :p
