Heh, The title is workable. I will take any and all suggestions.

Chapter 1

AIM, with Coffee.

I

Nick sat at his computer, his eyes bloodshot, and his coffee cup full. He had been working on his story for his Literature class. As his fingers flew across the keyboard, a small pop up came up. It was an AIM from his friend Kei. She and Nick had been talking for about three weeks now. Originally, they had met at an anime convention in LA, but since they lived about 2,000 miles away, AIM was all they had.

?Oi!? Kei wrote.

?Oi Back!? Nick wrote smiling.

?Oi Oi Back!? she quickly wrote back.

?Was ist los?? Nick wrote back.

?*is confused*? was all she wrote back.

Nick smiled and took a sip of coffee. He had not forgotten she had a sense of humor. Kei had a love for anime, and bishies. She also had a love of cheap, Japanese coffee. Nick had mostly remembered her tendency to play with her hair. Whenever she stood still, or wasn?t occupied, her hands would snake their way up to her hair. At first, she would just twirl it ?round, soon, she would start to braid it, leaving those around her awestruck.

?German.? Nick wrote back.

?Ah, I see.? She replied.

?So, what?s new?? Nick wrote, trying to start up conversation.

?Not much, enrolled for new semester.? She wrote back.

?Awesome, any new classes??

?Nope?

?Ah well.?

?Got any plans tonight??

?You mean tomorrow night??

?No tonight. It?s 2 AM here.?

?Oo??

?lol?

Nick sipped his coffee again. It had been ages since he just sat here and had a mindless conversation. He had been so busy with school that he didn?t have time for sleep either.

Soon, Nick would run out of coffee, and then from there, he would slowly slip away. A blink of light was the only thing keeping him from falling asleep. To some, it would be sleep deprivation, but to him, it was life. He had gotten used to this life-style, because he lived alone. A freak accident about a week ago left him family-less.

As his parents and siblings had been driving along the Autobahn, a drunken truck driver drove across the median and slammed into their car, killing everyone instantly. The only thing that kept him from crying, was the fact of that they went quickly. No pain or drama for him or them. He had buried them in different places. His little sister he put with his dad, in South Carolina. His mom and little brother went to California. Going to more than one funeral really drained Nick of his emotions, but he held himself together.

Everyone pitched in, giving money here, or a place to stay there. Some people made Nick sick though. His uncle Jake for one. The guy was a fat, obnoxious, and a jackass. He had not contacted the family in a year, but there he was, pulling out money to give to Nick. He took it, and burnt it. He would rather have been poor than except his charity.

As he glanced down at each grave marker, he only shed a single tear. One for mother, one for father, one for sissy, one for brother. After each day passed, Nick would shed more tears, every time he lay down to bed. So eventually, he stopped sleeping. The only time he slept was during down time: train rides, class, etc.

So many of his relatives offered to take him in, but Nick refused. He couldn?t live with someone else, it just wouldn?t be right. So here he was, 15 years old, and addicted to coffee. Nick sipped again. Life was a *****.

II

At the other end of the line, Kei sat at her computer. She had just woken up after her nap. She like Nick preferred to stay up late, although she did it because she wanted to. Not as an escape. As Kei sat doodling on the paper, Nick wrote back.

?Well?.?

?Well what??

?I don?t know??

?O.o??

?New topic??

?What??

?Cheese?

?Cheese??

?Well Blue Cheese is weird.?

?O.o?

?Why does it get a dressing? Why not Cheddar or Swiss??

Kei just stared at the screen. She knew Josh liked to be funny, but this way going overboard.

?Are you high??

?No, just sleep deprived and lots of coffee.?

Kei shook her head. Ever since Josh had disappeared for a week, he had come back weirder and even more scary. As she thought back to the few precious moments that they had met in, the thought of pools come to mind.

Josh had been chilling at the pool, swimming and diving. She had come in to the pool to check it out, and saw him fall off the high dive into the pool. When he didn?t come up in about thirty seconds, she cautiously walked over to the pool. When she bents over to look for him, he splashed her. This surprised her so much that she fell in. She floundered for a few seconds, and then came up. She immediately grabbed his head and dunked him. As she held him, she felt his body stop, and she pulled him up.

He wasn?t breathing, so she dragged him up on the ring around the pool, and gave him stomach thrusts. She heard him giggle, then as she leaned over to give mouth to mouth, his eyes shot open. He rolled out of the way, and into the pool. Kei shot him a dirty look and yelled at him.

?Oi! Don?t you know it?s not nice to play dead?? she asked faking an angered look.

Josh gave her a twisted smile. ?Of course, my mom taught me better. You just seemed gullible enough to fall for it. I?m Josh.?

?Kei.? She said, and then walked off.

?Wait! Are you here?? was all she heard before she left. Unknown to Josh at the time, she had left her AIM screen name for him to find.

?Are you ok??

?No?

?Why??

?Why not??

?Josh??

Kei stopped typing; she wasn?t going to get anything from him. Something had happened, and he wouldn?t talk about it. What a man.

III

Nick sat staring at the screen for a second. Why had he not told her his real name? As he remembered that day, his thoughts began to organize themselves. After he had fallen off the board, he had watched her carefully. As she crept up to the rim, he knew that he was going to splash her, but after she fell in, Nick kind of forgot. After a whirlwind, he was in the pool, and she was gone.

He chuckled. After he finished, he noticed a sheet of paper on his towel. As he picked it up, he noticed that it was scribbles. Obviously, she was in a hurry, but why, Nick knew not. As he sat down, he noticed something else. She had left her pen also. It was a college spirit pen. It said: Go Screaming Eagles! Nick almost chocked, she thought he was older than he was. She had to be at least 18, and he was only 14.

Most kids his age would think, ?Hell Ya! Score for me!? Nick wasn?t most guys. For one, he was gay. Another thing was he was used to this stuff. Girls hit on him, although he knew not why. He was nowhere near what anyone would call hot. At about 5?8, his brown hair grew down to the middle of his neck, although most people wouldn?t know it because he hid it all under a blue beanie.

His eyes were brown, almost the color of mud. Plenty of people complimented him on his eyes, but of late, they looked like mud. Nick didn?t know of that was because his eyes were always bloodshot, or because of his grief. He had a sort of ?gut? that in his opinion, kept him from getting anyone.

Every day he looked at himself in the mirror, he promised himself he would fix the flaws. Everyday, he did pushups and crunches, hoping that he could finally lose it. After everyone died sometimes that little bit of time was the only break, he got from the images of them. His little brother?s eyes open wide as the truck came hurtling towards him. His little sister sitting in her seat, screaming, fear pouring out of her eyes. His father, eyes set forward, his hands trying desperately to turn the wheel. His mother would have been out of her seatbelt, trying to save his little brother.

Sometimes, this enough kept Nick awake late at night. Tonight, nothing plagued Nick as he sat at the computer. He had not slept for three days now, so the only thing he saw was the black of his eyelids.

?Kei??

?You can tell me what?s wrong.?

?I know.?

?Then why not??

?Because, then I would be admitting they were dead!? Nick yelled out.

?I can?t.?

?Fine.?

?Kei??

?LadyLiger has signed off at 3:00 AM?

?Great, why don?t I insult the only people who don?t know me well.? Josh thought as he hit save. It was going to be a long day.

IV

Kei stared at the computer screen. She had logged off AIM, because she didn?t, no she couldn?t talk to Josh now. If he couldn?t tell her what was bugging him, then why did he deserve to talk to her? At the same time, if she was a ***** about it, and didn?t try to help him, wouldn?t that make her just as bad?

She quickly signed back on. She breathed a sigh of relief as she saw that Josh was still on.

?Josh?

?Yeap??

?I?m sorry.?

?For what??

?Being a ***** about this. If you don?t want to talk about it, it?s none of my business.?

?Kei??

?Yo.?

?My entire family died in a car crash two weeks ago.?

Kei?s jaw dropped. If that?s why Josh disappeared for a week, then Kei really should worry. She stopped, thinking. If she said the wrong thing at this point, she might drive Josh over the edge.

?Wow.?

?Wow? Is that the best I can come up with?? Kei asked aloud.

?Do you like him or something?? Another voice asked.

?What the ****?? Kei said looking around.

?Just answer the question.? It said.

?No, he?s like 16. It?s cradle robbing.? She said.

?So??? It replied quickly.

?That, and he?s gay!? she said defiantly.

?So, you could probably help rid him of that.? The voice said coldly.

?Whoever the **** you are, GET THE **** OUT!? she yelled, getting flushed in the face.

?Fine.? Was all she heard, the voice disappearing as fast as it had come.

As Kei looked over at the computer, she noticed only one new message.

??Night Kei.?

?Darncoolguy1 has logged off at 1:00 PM.?

All Kei could do was stare at the screen. She had been arguing with whatever, and he had left. As Kei thought about her life, she never came up with anything comparing to Josh?s. She sighed, and then clicked on the Naruto link. She needed to get her mind off life right now.

Okay, I read this once and never commented. JJ/^.^ has a new chapter in the making and I want him to post it so I'm breathing life back this thread. ^_^;

Anyway, I enjoyed it. It's just...sad, really sad, and it makes me me think of unknown miseries some of my friends might have, especially online ones cause I'll never know unless they tell me. I just hope this story isn't based anywhere near someone's real life o_O

Also, it's not finished so I wanna know what happens next. :animesmil

Chapter 2

Problems with AIM

I

In Rural Town, USA?.

?So tomorrow near the statue of Aunt Jemima right??

?You know it! 3 P.M.?

?Awesome, I?ve really wanted to meet you.?

?Me too. Goodnight baby girl.?

?Goodnight Boo.?

As Martin Galenger closed his laptop, he looked in the mirror. A thirty-year-old slob stared back. His shoulder length brown hair was messily hanging around his shoulders. His white button-up shirt, which had long been untucked, hung messily around his waist, the ends stained with lord knows what.

His belt hung around his pants, his zipper all the way down, his white underwear showing. His pants were long since wrinkled, looking like he had pushed the pants into a drawer, and then taken them out and given them to pro wrestlers before he put them on.

Most people would have laughed at him, but not Cherie. She was different. She was sixteen, stupid, and fresh. Martin hadn?t gotten someone like her yet. He licked his lips as he opened an internet page. He had some business to take care of.

II

Kei sighed and stared at the computer screen. It was only 4, and she needed to get started on a paper for her Biology class, but all she could think about what was she and Josh had talked about. After she had scanned for a bit, she decided on episode 1 and let it run. She opened her Buddy List, and saw that only one or two people were on. She clicked on one name and typed in

?Hey.?

?Hey.?

?How?s it going??

?Horribly, why??

?Never mind.?

?LadyLiger signed off at 4:13 PM.?

?I really shouldn?t have done that.? Kei thought listening to the noise of the show. ?I should be there for everyone, and not just sit here worrying about Josh?

?Oh, so now you?re worrying about him?? A mocking voice said out of nowhere.

?Damnit, will you leave me alone? I don?t need you right now.? Kei said, trying to spot the voice?s body.

?You won?t find me. I?m not actually here. I?m gonna be forward about this. I?m the Devil. Plain and simple. Call me what you will, Satan, Fallen Angel, Lord and so on. I want to break a deal with you. The world?s about to end. No joke. So I want to make a deal with you. Work for me, and I?ll spare you and your little friend from the first part of the end. After that, you?re on your own in terms of saving, but you?ll continue to work for me and keep me informed on what?s going on with the opposite side.? He said.

?If I didn?t know that there wasn?t any speakers or anything like that, I?d laugh and wait to roast. I can?t ask you to promise or anything, because you?re more slippery than a fish. Look, can I think on it?? Kei asked, setting her head down on the desk.

?I?ll give you thirty minutes alone. Then, it?s either yes or no.? He said, fading his voice out.

?You know, this just sucks. I know what happens to those idiots that work for Satan at the end of the world. They either end up in the fiery pits of Hell, or blown up by an atom bomb. I don?t?? Kei said aloud, only to be interrupted.

?Nope, this time God has no hand in this. This is happening through the actions of you humans. Not me or the big idiot upstairs have any play in this. I haven?t even been able to spread my seeds of suspicion lately. I?ve been bored, so I thought I?d turn the tables on God in a way. Pretty crafty, ?eh?? He said, chucking.

?God, you?re ego is as big as they say.? Kei said, chuckling at herself.

?Haha, God ain?t gonna help you now, so, my little desperate friend, what?s it gonna be?? he said, sounding impatient.

?I? say??

III

Nick sat at the computer, just staring at the screen. He couldn?t concentrate, and he had ran out of coffee at least an hour ago. As the screen flashed some movie, Nick?s eyelids began to droop, and his slowly collapsed onto the keyboard. As his snores began to ring throughout the empty house, a shadow entered the computer room, and slipped into Nick?s mind.

?Nick, Josh, or whatever the hell your name is. Can you hear me??

?Aww shit, do I have to dream about voices now? Can?t I just sleep for once??

?You?re not sleeping. I?m an angel from God, and I?m here to tell you that the world is going to end, and that God needs you!?

?Fuck God. Fuck the world. I just want to get my homework done.?

?Hey, say that enough and there will be thunderous consequences, if you get my drift. Anyway, God found out that Satan was trying to pull one over on him by using an agent to get him all the information after the world ends. God wants you to find out who it is, and destroy them. It?s your holy mission, just like Mary?s to carry and care for Jesus.?

?Meh, and I?m going to celebrated in Heaven forever as saint, right??

?That?s the plan.?

?Go away and go find some Christian fundamentalist to bother. They?d probably die from a heart attack to just hear your voice.?

?We tried, they all fell down in worship and wouldn?t listen to a word we said.?

?Isn?t that a bitch? Look I want to sleep, because two hours of sleep is better than none.?

?Well, if you say yes, then God will make so you don?t have to sleep anymore!?

?Bullshit. Leave me alone for the last time.?

?Fine, but you will pay??

?I don?t care.?

?You?ll see you?re family again.?

That struck a nerve. Nick sat up and turned to the angel. ?Are you lying to me??

?Can an angel lie??

?I don?t know. I never did trust the Bible.?

?Well, then, maybe you?ll just have to trust me.?

?Yeah, sure, like that?ll get me anywhere.?

?Closer to your family??

Another cord struck as Nick stared at the angel dumbstruck. If he could see them again, tell them how much he loved and missed them, he would do anything.

?Can I have thirty minutes alone to think about it??

?Sure, I?ll be back.?

The angel left, darkening the room, and leaving Nick with a very puzzled/worried look on his face. If he did decide to do what ?God? wanted, he may be able to see his family again. His eyes began to water at the corners as memories of the funerals came to mind.

The fresh mounds of dirt?the gravestones?the money?the crying?the horrible first day. Everything was a fresh memory to Nick, and he didn?t want that scared in his memory for the rest of his life. At this point, only one thought kept him from jumping up and yelling yes. Nick knew that making promises with the guy upstairs was dangerous, because when the time came, it usually ended up being someone you cared for in your line of fire.

For the rest of the time, the thought of seeing his family again floated around in his head. As he finally came to a decision, the angel descended back into Nick?s room. Before he could open his mouth, the angel spoke, ?I?m assuming you?ve made your choice.?

?Look, I don?t appreciate you throwing in my family like they?re some kind of bargaining chip. If you really are from God, I don?t want to your pawn in all this. I?m not saying yes, but I?m also not saying no. For now, I?ll look into it, but don?t expect anything out of it. Oh, and I?d like to see my family now.? Nick said, tapping his foot.

?We gotta find ?em. We?ll send ?em down when we can.? The angel said, starting to raise back into the ceiling.

?Somehow I feel like your stretching the truth, but whatever?

?Good luck, Mr. Diels.?

?Fuck you.?

IV

?He said 3, I wonder where he is?? Cherie said, standing at the statue.
She had been standing there since quarter ?till, but no one showed up. As she sat at a bench in the square her thoughts began to wander on the scarce information he had given about himself.

He had brown hair, and very toned bronze body. His hair was black, and was usually tied into a ponytail. He would be wearing a red muscle shirt and a pair of jeans, with his head covered by a red trucker hat. She looked around, but still no one walked by.

She began to get bored and started playing with her hair. It fell to her shoulders in brown cascades. She twirled it around, and stuck out her tongue as she continued to twirl. She was startled by a hand touching her shoulder, and a shadow falling over her body. She gasped, and was quickly silenced with a hand over her mouth. ?Try to scream, or run away, and I?ll kill you.?

Cherie felt something poking in her ribs, and she realized it was a gun. She let out another small gasp and he jabbed it into her ribs. She began to cry as she walked with the guy to a car parked not 15 feet from where they just were. She got in on the passenger?s side, and began bawl as the guy went around. She had been duped, and in the worst way. Now, she was on her way to God knows where, and there was no way for her to escape.

I love the angel/Nick talk. lol

I really love how this is going so far. How Satan gets Kei and God gets Nick. You better let me see the ending of this. I don't wanna know what Martin will do to Cherie. *noticed the SVL rating*
