Dragon Riders--Before the Dragons

NOTE: Not everyone has to meet up at first. Just remember your objective: find the ore.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In a tranquil cove facing the calm side of the ocean, at about 2 in the afternoon on a clear day in spring, one could hear the adorable sounds of the baby seals lying on the beach on their backs, soaking up the sun. Some were also nursing with the mother seals. But these seals were dark gray and bore no resemblance to an abandoned seal that was picked up a week ago by a woman named Kenda. Now, Kenda was walking along the beach towards the cove, the white seal Chirru trailing next to her in the water. Kenda looked to the side and smiled at Chirru, who gave a little bark of glee. But then, Chirru chittered excitedly at the sight of something... Kenda went over to check it out: it was a bottle with a note in it!
Strange... Kenda thought. Could it be about the dragons? And as soon as the bottle was opened, she read the note:
"Dear receiver of this note,
I'm a little girl named Chi, and I live on the island of Nimba. I sincerely hope this letter reaches Raia, which I think it would on the current I put this bottle in. Anyways, I'm trapped and stranded on this island, but I have a dragon here which came from a dragonfly I found."
Kenda's eyes grew wide after reading that last sentence.
A dragon?! she thought. What was that island, Nimba? I've heard of it before, but it's far from here... But there was more on the note, so she read on...
"I know you guys probably know about the ore that turns animals into dragons, and I bring good news: I found plenty of it in a cave here. I'll be happy to share some with you if you find me and take me back to the island Viren, which is where my family lives. I hope you find it in your heart to go through with this deal, and I'll be awaiting your arrival.
-Chi"
Well, Kenda thought. Isn't this simple. All I have to do is find Nimba, get the ore, and pay Chi back for it with her return to Viren, an island I have never even heard of... But, how do I get there? I don't know anyone with a boat, or how to build one...
Kenda then gave a sigh of deisappointment and just started walking along the beach with Chirru, whom she had to lead away from the seals in the cove. After a few minutes, though, she stopped--there was a young man there, or at least what looked like one, and he had a fox sitting right next to him.
I wonder, Kenda thought as she walked further along the beach, if that guy is facing the same problem as I am... Well I don't know. Next to her, Chirru was some ten feet away from the shore, nibbling on a fish she found. Kenda giggled at the sight of her and beckoned her to follow her along the shore.
"Why do all the nuts find this stuff," CT muttered, taking the ad from the wall. She was in a small fishing town right off the coast. There were taverns and fish shacks all over town and all the men, it seemed, had at least three tattoos that were visible with or without a shirt. Women hovered around the few markets that didn't sell only fish products and stared as CT walked by.
Apparently, a girl with a black panther was something to stare at. But she was used to it. As a group of men with guns neared, she sent her companion into a nearby ally. No sense in making your only friend game for a bunch of boneheads.
She read over the ad again and again, wondering if she should trust this "Jack" guy. But... how would he have ore? she wondered. Suddenly, a kid, ten or eleven by the looks of him, ran right into her. "Hey!!" he whined, as if it was her fault. "Hey yourself, kid. Watch where you're going. You shouldn't be here," she told him, glaring back at a tattoed guy who was eyeing her.
"Why should I listen to YOU? I live here!" "You live here?" CT asked him, looking back at the ad in her hand. "You, by any chance, know this guy here?" she asked, pointing to a name at the bottom of the paper. "Ol' Jack? Yeah I know 'im. That lyin' jerk owes my daddy money! An' a bunch of favors.. an' somethin' else.." the boy said, pondering the subject.
"Hey.. Why you wanna know, lady?" "If I go do some stupid errand for this guy, he'll give me.." CT leaned down to the boy's ear, then whispered, "... dragon ore." The boy's eyes widened. "You're lookin' for THAT stuff! Why didn't you say so? Screw ol' Jack, I know someone else. An' HIM you can trust!" the boy said. Before leading her away, he asked, "What's your name?" "CT. You?" "Nick. Now com'on. Let's go," he began, grabbing her arm.
But she held him back a second. "Hang on." And with that, she let out a whistle. Ouja, the panther that had been traveling with her for a long while, emerged from his hiding spot. "What the?!" Nick began, running off without her. "Hey wait!! What about.. the guy..? Damn it. And to think this'd be easy.." The black panther rubbed his head against her leg, as if he was asking if she wanted him to chase down the boy.
"That's the last thing we need," she chuckled, walking down the street. Now what am I going to do? I don't know who that guy Nick was talking about.. and maybe the kid was just tricking me. Yeah.. Probably, CT thought as she wandered down the now empty streets. "Jeez... Why's everyone so scared of a li'l cat?" Ouja let out a small growl. "Sorry. Didn't mean to call you little."
"You there! Hold it!" she heard from behind. She turned to see Nick behind the leg of a tall young man. "Looking for ore are you?" he said walking up to Ouja and petting him. Nick was backed against a wall, staring wide eyed at the panther. "Don't worry, Nick. He won't bite," CT reassured him. "Com'on. Pet him," the man said. "Uh.. no thanks.." he said in a shaky voice.
"Now. About that ore...uh..?" "Aha. Name's Will.. an' I got this letter that just might interest you.." he chuckled, pulling out a small piece of paper from his pocket and handing it to her.
After reading it, CT shoved it in her bag. "You got a boat, Will?" she asked him. "Hehe. Follow me," he smiled.
Walking through the forest of the Seer Eoen stopped to collect some berries and crickets as well as the many traps he made to protect the forest from invaders such as the bandits that often attempted to raid the Seer?s home for booty and slaves. (For it was said that she had lots of both of these things however that is another story). Looking at a magic trap this was one of the traps the seer had set that only a person with a certain crystal could get to the center of the forest where the Seer?s hut was. Getting up and moving to the next spot Eoen picked up a few more berries for Koru. Now you see the traps was not set to kill but to capture or injure anyone attempting to reach the Seer of Dhaka.
Eoen stopped at the last trap and noticed a small white and brown patched mouse with a broken foot carefully he picked it up and placed it in his pouch so that it wouldn?t get hurt or lost. Picking up a few more berries and grabbing a few crickets. Eoen started thinking about his best friend Koru The Crag Beast. His companion and protector, With Koru fighting for him Eoen was capable of becoming a rather good healer. With the lore of the forest and the knowledge and ability to make almost any potion thanks to the Seer?s gentle guiding Eoen had a rather impressive healing array on his hands. Eoen remembered fondly when he used to take care of Koru?s egg trying to figure of what it would become and asking the Seer and only receiving a secretive smile.
Walking down the path to the Hut he and the Seer called home he stop shortly outside of the hut and took the mouse out of the pouch and dumped the berries into a pile and then carefully placed the mouse back in the bag and walked inside the hut only to be greeted by the horrible odor of Flame Wart cooking.
Eoen: Eghh Flame Wart.
Seer: Yes the smell is powerful however Flame Wart is very useful. You?re late however I am over looking this on account of what today is.
Eoen: What is today?
Seer: Well it is two things one it is your finishing day? and two your birthday.
Eoen: Wait that is today? I thought that was next week?
Seer: It is today. I watch the moon not the seasons
Eoen: So what do I need to do?
Seer: Make the potion of sight and then come see me in my room.
Eoen: Ok got it. Grabs the potions ingredients and starts brewing the mixture carefully
Syris sighed a bit distressfully. It had hidden again, the ram had always seemed to like 'hide and go seek' inside the forest on the other side of Raia. To the fact, it was rather annoying. The thing always hide in the same spot. Never really getting all that more intelligent; it might have been better off with him. Walking through Syris stopped. His head tilted to one side, the thing's white tail was sticking out from under a scruff of leaves.
Reaching down to grab the tail he stopped. Standing straight, Syris turned.
It was nothing. The wind, most likely.
He looked back forwards, but the tail give away was gone. Maybe, it was more intelligent then he had thought. Or at least for something of it's species. Syris looked around again, scanning the area he saw a horn disappear. There was then a thump. He could see the thing skipping away from him in a playful manner.
"This is rather a poor excuse for an animal." he said out loud, to him self.
Feeling a bit insulted; his mood changed. The animal was doing as it felt best wasn't it? Even if it was idotic to play such games. It was a ram. A delicousy to other animals on the island. It was open pray.
With another sigh, Syris begun to chase after.
Eoen had just finished making his Potion of Sight when the Seer?s Crystal around his neck flared with light and power in the past it was a warning that someone was walking in the forest without a crystal of his own. However the crystal never flared up like this normally it was a dull light, which faded as soon as the intruder had stepped into one of the traps. However it seemed that this intruder wasn?t setting off any of those traps and now the crystal shard was showing a picture of a ram and a older boy chasing the ram. This ram didn?t have the same look about him as a normal ram this one was different something about it didn?t? seem right. The Seer sneaking up behind him watched for a second
Seer: Ahhh so one of them has come. I wondered what took him so long.
Eoen: You knew he was coming?
Seer: Yes now go greet him and take Koru and Taiko with you that secretive smile danced on her lips again
Eoen: As you wish. He grabs his bag and walks out the door.
Seer: After he has left Soon you will find your path young one. However hard it may be you will defeat the tests placed before by your now dead father. Picking up the potion the Seer Dips her finger into the bottle and flicks a few drops into the fire and it starts to rage. Excellent let it begin.
Walk through the forest for the second time that day Eoen let the light of the crystal guide him as he passed Koru and Taiko he motioned for them to follow. Koru suddenly took off down the trail Eoen yanked out his staff and started sprinting after the crazy Crag Beast he noticed that Koru had stopped and he was in a crunched up and was growling at the ram and the boy who was somewhat older. Holding his staff in a blocking pose Eoen stepped out into the small clearing.
Eoen: Koru back off I want to ask this person what he is doing here The Crag Beast backed up but didn?t lose it?s warning growl Now I wish to know who you are and why your in this forest.
Syris stared front wards to the boy and his 'pets.' The was in a ready position to fight by the way he was holing his staff. There was a rather loud, 'bahaa' to the left and a few feet behind.
One of his eyes drifted to the ram, it was slowly turning and coming to his side. He waited. Turning his full attention back to the boy. Silently he laughed to him self as he took one small step back he bowed, in fake, apologies.
After all did the boy not have a weapon? Or something he used of the sort. Syris could easily have calculated mathmatically and logically the boys speed and the gravity and density of the staff the boy held. Along with the pace that his animals could move. But he was near for what he came for. Syris knew so easily he could have already left and the ram would have come back within hours.
"I take it as though I have, indeed, offended you." Syris's eyes glanced to his side.
The ram was there, he stayed hunched still bowing and waiting for his reply.
The boy stared at him oddly. "You didn't answer my question."
The ram stopped. Three inches away from Syris's curved hand. It stared as his hair fell around his neck. With a jump Syris grabbed the animal by it's horn. It 'bahaaed' but in vain failed to get away. Syris grinned turn his attention back to the boy. He grinned.
"My name is Syris Irwin Nine. I'm here due to the fact this fellow of mine likes to play. And has lead me hear as a result."
Syris glanced at the Bomb Crag, or rather; Crag Beast. It was an unusual sight for him. The animal type of 'Crag' had deemed 'his' little plot of land on the island un-worth for comfortably living.
There was a pretentious attitude as he began. "As I may, will you tell me the one of which I have sorely insulted?"
Syris heard a small grunt as the boy opened his mouth to speak.
Eoen glanced around after hearing the grunt. Most animals didn?t grunt normally only a ? before he had time to finish the thought a large boar came charging at him
Eoen: Koru! Swipe this thing with your tail.
The large lizard turned and opened it?s mouth in a threatening motion then clubbed the boar into a tree with a mighty swipe of his tail. Seizing the moment Eoen started whispering a spell as he whispered one of the symbols on his staff started to glow and vines begin to slithered around the boars legs and body and tying it to the ground the stopping his whispers Eoen looked at the boar and then the older boy and his goat then out into the bushes
Eoen: What the heck is a wild boar doing in these parts? Unless this isn?t wild and one of the? He stopped for a second and looked up seeing smoke coming from the south. Uh no. I think one of the villages is under attack if they fall that means the seer may be next. Koru go get the seer I am going to check out this village. Glancing at the older boy are you going to come or you going to stay here if your going to stay her follow Koru if not follow me.
OOC: I'm guessing it's ok to post, but Nefertimon, could you just check out my sign-up? Just to give the "ok" (that Cebben gave me) some officiality ;)
Kikuta sat in the tree, listenning to the stirring of what could possibly be commotion below her.
"Koru, swipe this thing with your tail!" one voice said.
He's getting his pet to smash this guy?! she thought, even I wouldn't do that...
A split second later, the twenty-one year old felt the tree she was in shudder, and heard a boar squeal.
Spitfire hissed.
"Calm down my deadly companion. Wait a minute, we'll reveal ourselves when the time is right," she whispered.
Kikuta caught the sight of a faint glow coming through the leaves, and wondered if it was the boy with the lizard-pet or the one who'd come into the clearing looking for his hornéd sheep.
The first boy said something, then asked the ram-boy a question.
"Let's show ourselves now then," Kikuta breathed, then dropped from the braches of the tree elegantly, right arm extended in front of her, Spitfire coiled around it and ready to strike at someone's throat...or any part of the body.
"Huh?" murmered the ram-boy, just loud enough so the lizard-guy heard.
"What th-" he managed to say before turning to see a fully grown King Cobra not two feet from his face.
Kikuta smirked, "Where do you think you're going so quickly? I'd hate for you to miss all the fun."
Spitfire hissed as both boys stuttered.
"Spitfire, are you also already as bored with these two as I am?" the cobra snapped its mouth a few times, dripping poison from his fangs, "Better answer quickly boys, because Spitfire here doesn't like being made to wait."
Eoen stood as still as he could with a large poisonous cobra glaring him in the face he doubted he could stop it before he got bitten of course he could tell her but she would probably just raid the poor houses but it wasn?t worth the time or his life to try and mess with the cobra.
Eoen: very well if you want to know I was just going to check out what that smoke was about. Unless of course you know what it is?
Kikuta: Are you implying that I started the fire? getting outraged
Eoen: Did you?
Kikuta: No of course not ?
Eoen: Then call back your snake
Kikuta: I won?t until you give me all of your valuables?
Eoen: Chuckles at that Like I have any? Just look at what I am wearing.
Kikuta: Well what about that pretty little crystal around your neck?
Eoen: Thinking Oh bumblebees now what? Ughh it?s cursed I can?t take it off.
Syris: Your kidding right?
Eoen: No? I am not
Syris: Great now what?
Kikuta: Hmmm I guess I will make you work it off.
Eoen: Work what off?
Kikuta: My toll you fool.
Eoen: gives her a long hard stare there is no toll.
Kikuta we will see about that. Kill him Spitfire?
OOC: Umm...it's a little hard to understand the first paragraph of your last post Cebben...I hate to be a nag, but could you try adding a full-stop or comma where appropriate? I mean, I'm not perfect myself, but I'll PM you about it later...
"Kill him Spitfire," Kikuta ordered, but the cobra stayed in place.
The boy's lizard had snuck up beside Spitfire, and was ready to pounce on the snake if it made any sudden moves.
"Well it looks like I'm not the only one who knows how to sneak up on her prey then," the snake-charmer smirked, "Call off your beast boy, and you can keep your life."
He openned his mouth to speak but Kikuta interrupted, "Don't ask any questions, just do it. I'm in a good mood if you must know."
"Koru, back down..." he said, then whispered "...a little."
Kikuta let her arm drop down to her side, and Spitfire slithered up her back, around her neck and on rested his head on her right shoulder.
"I'm after a special ore, maybe you've heard about it?" Kikuta asked the two boys as they both turned to leave.
"Maybe you could introduce yourself before I say anything about such a precious thing, huh?" the sheep-boy retorted.
"I'm not usually one to take such a poisonous remark, but I'll make an acception for now," she fired back, "The name's Kikuta Orochi, and I believe I've already introduced you to Spitfire here."
The sheep-boy said "I'm Syris."
"Eoen," the lizard's companion said shortly.
Kikuta nodded, "Now, about this ore I was talking about, are you going to tell me what you know or not...?"
Eoen openned his mouth to speak, but the girl hadn't finished, "...Syris was it?"
"Quiet," CT whispered to the moaning Ouja. "What's wrong with it?" Nick asked, sitting across from her in Will's room under the bridge. "There's nothing wrong with HIM. He's just not used to boats. He'd probably rather swim. But he'd never get there." Ouja growled to that comment before returning to his moaning.
"Don't kick him!" CT called out, grabbing Nick's arm. "But that'll shut it up!" "No, it'll make him eat you then continue moaning! Don't try that again or back to the deck with you," she threatened. This ore better be worth it.. she thought to herself, glaring out the window.
The waves were bad. Terrible. The boat's incessent rocking was driving her and her companion nearly insane. And Nick wasn't helping either. His constant questions and teasing Ouja had already snapped CT's last nerve. But throwing him overboard, she decided, would bite her in the ass quite soon. After all, he was Will's brother.
But she could also use Ouja to take over the ship. She could throw them both overboard. While contemplating this new option, her attention drifted from Nick to daydreaming. Seeing this opportunity, Nick jumped off his seat and walked towards the still moaning Ouja. He held out his hand, but Ouja just stared. "Here, kitty kitty kitty," he chanted, nearing the panther.
"Nick..." CT began, noticing the boy missing from across the table. "Nick! Don't-" But Ouja had already pounced on him. Nick was screaming and trying to wiggle his way out of the panther's paws, but to no avail. He was trapped. "Ouja! Don't you dare bite him! If you do, I'll throw you overboard!" she shouted, gripping his neck and trying to pull him off. Eventually, she did, leaving a stunned Nick on the floor and a seasick panther in her arms.
"Ouja.. Why the hell did you go and do THAT?" she sighed, dragging him into the room's bedroom. She lay him on the bed and before shutting the door, turned to her ill company, and said, "You stay here. And I don't care if you get your hair all over the bed." With this, she shut the door and walked over to Nick, picking him up and placing him back on his couch.
"That was.. scary.." he whispered, curling up in the corner. "I told you.." Then, over the speaker, Will's voice said, "I see an island. We'll stop there and check if that's the one. Too bad I left my maps back in town. Hehe." "You idiot," CT muttered, sighing again.
