CaptainAnarchy
I thought that Nirvana should be recognized with a thread. They were wonderful artists and Nirvanas CD Nevermind is the only CD I have come across that I like every single song on... I think that Kurt Cobain was pretty gosh darn sexy, too  hehe...and he was talented....I'm very sad he took his own life because I would of LOVED to see Nirvana in concert...:( They (in my opinion) were the greatest rock musicians who had ever lived...
i n d i g o
Nirvana's a good band, but they're obscenely overrated...especially songs like 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'...I mean..honestly...STFU...
CaptainAnarchy
They aren't overrated...they were the BEST...can't convince me otherwise. Their songs are full of meaning...I mean its great,man.... :D

Bullet Theory
I like some Nirvana, but I'm going with the rest. They are pretty overrated. I mean they did revolutionize the "grunge" scene but still...give it a rest you obsessed people. It is a horrible lose for Kurt to have taken his own life...but it was his choice. He'll be greatly missed.
CaptainAnarchy
They were the best...case closed. No overratings...they were simply THE KINGS of the 90s grunge scene...they switched us from that terrible glam metal from the 80s to the awesome sounds of punk/grunge... Bullet Theory
they switched us from that terrible glam metal from the 80s to the awesome sounds of punk/grunge...
Which was indeed a well needed breath of fresh air, so to speak. Nirvana came along when the music scene needed them most and swept the nation. They are an inspiration to many up-and-coming bands (including mine, Tragedy Thought), but even still...people need to let go of the fact that Nirvana is no more. Manic Webb
Nirvana were like the Beatles during the beginning of their career. The Beatles were good and changed music for the better, but some of their earlier work just wasn't as good as their later work. Frankly, there were no past influences for them to pull from, so they had to start their sound all by themselves. So while their first songs were good, they got much better as their had time to refine their sound. Nirvana sparked a huge change for grunge music, but they weren't really that good. Had they been around a bit longer, I'm sure they would've come out with something 10 times better than "Smells Like Teen Spirit." A good band? Yes. Greatest band ever created? Far cry. Although they do deserve a good amount of recognition.

I, Colossus
I myself, was once quite the Nirvana junkie. It got to the point where I was obsessed with Kurt Cobain and really, really, cared about him. Last year I got really depressed on his Birthday. Right now, however, I've taken a step back. Now, I feel they are a bit overrated. Yes, they are a great band, Kurt's lyrics being the prominent reason. Not to mention Grohl being one of the greatest drummers to ever walk the earth. But the more I listen to them, the less cryptic their lyrics become. Also, I only tend to want to listen to them in Winter, or when I'm depressed (which is not very often). I do still love them with all my heart. I just don't see them as the gods I once did. Anyway, in short, yes, they kick ***.
Queen Asuka
I honestly believe that the only reason Nirvana DID get so blown up right there in the middle of their career was because of Kurt's death. Sure, the band had it's following, but how much larger did the following become once Kurt died? Once it became "cool" to like Nirvana? I'm not saying they are not a great band because I have a few of their albums myself, including the "Greatest Hits," but Stone Temple Pilots rock Nirvana, hands down. Not to mention Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, Alice in Chains, etc. Need I say more?
CaptainAnarchy
Eck...you have your opinions, deary but so do I. I don't think any of the bands you mentioned "rock" Nirvana. Pearl Jam and Soundgarden in my opinion suck eggs real bad. I like Stone Temple Pilots...but not so much that it tops Nirvana...and I've never heard Alice In Chains so I can't actually say anything nasty about them....I'm so mean:)
Manic Webb
CaptainAnarchy, can you calm it down just a tad? We get that you like Nirvana a lot, but some of your replies in their defense come off as a little... um... hyper.

Nirvana was very popular before Kurt's death. From what I've witnessed you seem to be the kind of person who doesn't want her favorite things to be popular. Sucess isn't so horrible. DeathKnight
Now, now CaptainAnarchy- you must not be that fanatically devoted to a single band of a great genre! Many bands from that genre are just as good as Nirvana- the one's QueenAsuka listed are fantastic. If you like Grunge, then those are the bands you want to add to your playlist- especially Alice in Chains [The song "Grind" is so fantastic]. I'm hoping you aren't just an ignorant fan..girl? guy? Whatever your gender is. Surely you aren't that silly form of human, hm? So, yeah- go out and get yourself some Alice in Chain's music- MP3's or otherwise. "Grind", "Them Bones", "We Die Young", "Angry Chair", and "Rooster" are all good songs from them. Also, give Soundgarden another try- I am honestly not that big a fan of Pearl Jam, but Soundgarden is pretty good.

You know, it's fine and dandy that they were popular, but how come so many people didn't start listening to them until one of them died? I have the same issue with people who didn't particularly care for Aaliyah's music until after she died. How come they didn't realize the music was good until somebody died? But, is it possible, that maybe, they didn't start liking it because he died. But they started due to the publicity his death got, more people were able to hear his music. And that what spiked their popularity to new heights? I honestly doubt it. But the point is. She wasn't saying that's why she detests it. She detests it because it became cool. I'm trying to word it in the right way. You're right. You didn't say you detested Nirvana. I get that you still like them. I'm having trouble wording what I mean to say though. Basically, in your post, you were mad because more people liked Nirvana, because of Kurt's death. But as I said in my last post. Maybe publicity just got them out more, and it became "COOL" because more people heard them and realised they kick ***. You're right. If Eddie Veddar killed himself Pearl Jam would be more popular. But whenever someone dies in a band, more people pay attention to them. Happened with Drowning Pool, at least locally. So, what I'm trying to say is, I wasn't acting like I knew who you were, I was basing an opinion off of past remarks. Particularly in the "Mainstream Anime" thread. There you go. I half agree, but...I half dont.
